Still Choosing Colors – On the Worktable!

Amazon Books

A couple weeks ago, I wrote you a note about color options and making color choices for embroidery projects.

We’re still doing that.

The design for the project in question needed some work, so between playing with the design and juggling colors, we’re getting a little closer to execution.

Testing colors and threads for an embroidery project

I decided to set up some test stitching for some of the design elements, just to figure some things out about threads and about techniques. I wanted to explore the possibilities of adding in some metallics, just to see.

I have the notion that, for this particular piece (which I plan to mount in a box top), incorporating metallics into long and short stitch and other stitches worked with floss might be possible.

Because my vision for this particular project is to produce something really bright and lively, I figured why not try it?

And so I did try it.

I’m not sure I’d consider the experiments successful. I don’t not like it, but it definitely needs some work. I am going to change the approach somewhat with subsequent petals.

(By the way, I know that flower looks huge. It’s not quite an inch in diameter.)

When I first started posting a little bit about this project – in the color choice article – many of you chimed in with enthusiasm for the color scheme that involved the corals and the frosty sage-ish blues.

At this point, I’m leaning more towards purples, corals, and yellows with this.

But never fear! We are definitely using the other color scheme, but not on this project. We have another project in the works (with silk threads, yay!) that I’ll sneak peek to you on Friday. I think if you liked that color scheme before, you’ll love seeing it in the silks!

We’re Still Here!

We have a grand family wedding this weekend, and starting today, siblings and aunts and uncles and cousins and nieces and nephews from all over the country are arriving here in NE Kansas, en masse. It’s an extra-special occasion!

Despite that (or maybe because of it?! LOL!), we’ll still be at work most of this week. We will be shipping up to noon on Wednesday. Any orders placed Thursday and Friday of this week will ship next Monday, February 10.

If you need anything to go out this week, please place your order by noon on Wednesday so we can get it out to you.

If you haven’t ordered yet, the second part of our shipment arrived, and we have a limited stock on hand at the moment. You’ll find the book available here!

(Psssst! When you get your book, flip to the back and find the bookmark. I just love that little touch!)

Coming Up!

Wednesday is for embroidery history fans! Keep an eye out for Wednesday’s article if you “nerd out” on historical needlework!

Friday, I’ll share a sneak peek of a really pretty project that’s coning up in 2025. Worked in silk threads on silk fabric, it promises to be sumptuous!

Hope your week’s off to a great start!
