Is 2025 your year to learn a bit more about the history of embroidery? If it is, then you’ll want to check out a new offering from the Victoria & Albert Museum!
The Victoria & Albert has this on-demand lecture course on English embroidery available, and of course, I am intrigued.
Besides the notable subject matter, you’ll see that it’s a self-paced lecture course, and it’s very reasonably priced (and the British pound is relatively low right now).
The course description pretty much captures it all:
Step into the intricate world of English embroidery, where centuries-old techniques and modern styles combine to create beautiful art. This course covers embroidery styles from the Medieval period through to William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement, with historical insights and a closer look at outstanding examples in the V&A collections.
If you’re an embroidery history enthusiast, you’re bound to find this enticing.
I signed up. I couldn’t help it. I think it works out to about US$58. Just going by the intro video, I’m going to enjoy it. The visuals – lots of close-ups! – alone are worth it! There are just over 3 hrs of video in 9 lectures. They’re easy to handle in short segments, and you have access to them for a year. This means you can re-visit parts you want to see again, pause, take notes, and so forth without pressure.
So, that’s your Monday morning tidbit!
Hope your week is off to a great start!
