Good morning, and Happy Monday!
We’ll jump right into the exciting news – the embroidery kits for The Christmas Mitten stitch-along are available now!
This final stitch-along for 2024 features a sparkly, festive mitten ornament. You can tuck gift cards, a note, small candy canes, or other small trinkets and gifts in it.
The mitten will make a beautiful addition to your own Christmas decorations or a perfect way to wish your favorite people a Happy Christmas!
Read on to learn a little more about the kit and the upcoming stitch-along…
The Christmas Mitten is a sampler-style embroidery project, incorporating floss, specialty metallic threads, and glass beads. The design is worked on beautiful white 100% linen from Italy. The backing and accent cuff are 100% wool felt. And a little golden snowflake charm accents the hanging loop.
There’s room on the mitten’s cuff for personalization, and you can also personalize the back of the ornament. If you want to stitch a date on it, for example, or add a name, you can do that!
The stitch-along will unfold here on Needle ‘n Thread in a timely manner, so that your ornament is finished before Christmas.
I’ll take you step by step through the whole process – from set-up, to embroidery, to finishing. I’ll provide helpful tips along the way, to lead you to a successful finish!
Beginners & Beyond!
The project is suitable for determined beginners and beyond. You should be familiar with basics, like threading a needle, starting threads, following stitch directions. I’ll help you through any nitty-gritty parts, although there aren’t many! It’s a pretty easy project overall, but with a lot of variety to make it fun and to give a really satisfactory finish.
The knowledge and skills you’ll gain can easily be transferred to other projects, too. Once you’ve created something like this little mitten and successfully finished it, a whole world of ideas will open up to you, for applying what you’ve learned to your own embroidery. That’s the great thing about taking classes and working through stitch-alongs like this. You learn a lot!
The Materials Kit
The materials kits include everything you need to create one mitten ornament, with enough thread and beads left over to indulge in other creative pursuits, or to make another ornament with your own fabric.
The materials in this kit are of the highest quality, too, which always makes a big difference in the stitching experience. Besides the beautiful linen ground fabric, you’ll be working with Au Ver a Soie metallics (which are engineered for needlework – they’re not the frustrating metallics you might be used to!), Miyuki glass beads, and DMC floss.
You’ll need to provide scissors (these little Rainbow thread cutters are perfect for small projects), a hoop (5″ works best – we have them available here), and a few common sewing bits and bobs, like pins and sewing thread.
Starting Soon!
Pick up your materials kit today so we can send it off to you quickly!
We’ll start the stitch-along next Monday, November 18th, due to popular request. (We were going to start this Friday, but I had some input that asked for a little more time to receive the kits.)
The lessons will be posted right here on the blog (on Needle ‘n Thread), so that you don’t miss any of the instruction. You can stitch at your own pace, because you can always visit the website to work on each lesson or to catch up.
And never fear! If you’re already in the midst of Christmas stitching for this year, you can always purchase the kit and stitch the mitten after Christmas, in anticipation for next year!
As always, members of the Needle ‘n Thread Community on Patreon will receive the lessons as PDF downloads that you can save on your own computer and print easily.
International Shipping
Needle ‘n Thread is located in Kansas, USA, and we normally ship kits domestically and to Canada only.
We always have requests from the UK, Europe, Australia, and NZ for our kits, and we are happy to mail them to you if we can. In these cases, we work on an individual basis so that we can arrange the most economical (but still tracked and insured) shipping method.
If you’re located outside the US and Canada and you want a kit, reach out via email with your request and your mailing information and we’ll get back to you with shipping options. It’s a slower approach, but we will do our best to accommodate you.
Coming Up!
I can’t wait to tell you a little bit more about our upcoming holiday Open House here at the studio in Kansas!
Even if you can’t come, you can still enjoy the festivities, too! We’ll be having a special online pre-Christmas event here on the website just for you!
