Good morning and Happy Wednesday!
Gosh, it’s weird to talk about wool thread when it’s hot and humid, isn’t it?
Still…! In my mind, when it comes to good embroidery thread, it’s not a seasonal thing. Any season will do! I can stitch with wool whenever I’m in a wooly mood, be it summer or winter or any time in between. Yessiree, Bob!
First in the news, there’s the Wildflowers in Wool embroidery kit, which I wrote about here.
We finally received the backorder for one of the thread colors, so we have just a few kits available here right now. If you were hoping for one when they were released but missed the kit, hopefully you can pick one up today.
Eco Vita Thread Collections
And with that backorder, some Eco Vita thread collections also arrived! We have this gorgeous set of 30 colors of Eco Vita naturally dyed organic wool back in stock, too.
The collection is made up of full-sized skeins in a very pleasing array of colors. They make a great springboard for designing or working out your own color scheme for your stitching projects.
If you’re not familiar with Eco Vita wool or you’d like to know more about it, you can find information about it, and comparisons to other wool threads for embroidery, in this collections of articles that explore a wide variety of wool embroidery threads.
Autumn Side Project
I’m just starting on an autumn side project. It’s an embroidered table runner, made from one of these linen blanks. Specifically, I’m using the natural linen table runner.
I’m pretty excited about this project, mostly because I think it will be quick to work, and I’m looking forward to being able to use it this autumn.
I’m taking the maple leaf line from my Autumn Variety ready-to-stitch towel set, expanding the leaf line slightly, and embroidering it on each end of one of the linen runner.
Down the middle of the runner, I plan to work, here and there, some scattered individual leaves.
Years back, I embroidered this runner using the Festive Fall design (with the pumpkin) (also available here in a downloadable PDF format, with stitching instructions and designs), but I was never entirely happy with it. The fabric is a very lightweight linen that’s semi-transparent and rather loosely woven. It wasn’t the best ground fabric for this kind of surface embroidery, I admit, but at the time, it was the only blank that I could find in that color of linen.
But now! Now! I have some gorgeous linen blanks, made from lovely, substantial Italian linen! It’s time to concoct something leafy and fall-ish with one of them.
Right now, I’m working on the layout for the runner. I’ll share updates on it as I go along, with tips, techniques, and whatnot – just in case you want to stitch something similar!
What’s Up!
So that’s what’s up in the Studio right now – well, that, and we’re building a couple prototypes (actually, many prototypes!) for the next Stitch Snippet stitch-along. We’ve got some of the fabric in for that, too, and we’re just waiting on threads, beads, and some little extras.
And I’m working on some new stitch tutorials for you.
Ooooooh – and we’ve started a Christmas ornament.
There. Now I’ve covered it all!
Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!
Ce mercredi était consacré à l enterrement de ma mère …C’était un passage entre les pleurs et l espoir .
Oh, I am so sorry for this difficult loss, Veronique! You have my heartfelt sympathy!
