Just a quick check in today. Yes, my eyes are still wonky.
Thank you so much for all the emails and comments of encouragement regarding the whole Eye Thing! I really appreciate it!
Unfortunately, I can’t spend much time on the computer, reading, typing, and whatnot. It makes me almost seasick. I have to keep one eye closed, move my head from one side to the other, and bring my face in and out to see anything. It’s quite bizarre, and tiring.
Next week, mid-week, I’ll have the second eye finished and things will equalize. I have high hopes that this will make a huge difference in almost everything that I do. I will keep you posted on how things go!
For those who were waiting for A Fine Tradition and Willing Hands 2 to be back in stock, I’ve got them! So, right now, all three books (both Willing Hands books) are ready for you. You’ll find them in my shop, here.
Fortunately, I’ve got someone helping with shipping. I don’t trust myself to keep labels straight right now. Heh heh.
Oh my word. I know the eyes will be worth it in the long run. And I certainly cannot complain – there are so many worse eye cases out there in the world, as so many of you have written to tell me. I’m thankful for what I have! So thankful!
But wow. It’s very weird not halving equal sight and being off kilter all the waking hours.
I’ve been putting together a book review for you, and hopefully I’ll have that up later this week. I’m just writing little pieces at a time. I read the book several weeks ago – almost in one sitting, I enjoyed it so much. So I’m eager to share it with you!

I hope and pray for the best in all your cataract surgeries. I was 53 when I had to have both eyes done so I understand the imbalance of focusing. After I had both done, I was very happy to see people without glasses. I had very bad astigmatism and was very near-sighted. I opted to get progressives just so I could really focus well when reading small print in the stores, etc. I also felt naked without glasses since I wore them since I was very young. When I had to take a vision test at the DMV I did pass without wearing them and I still wear glasses while driving. Guess they’re a crutch. Unfortunately I have such bad night blindness now I won’t drive anywhere unless I know I will be back home before nightfall. I asked others if they have that issue and they said no so hopefully you won’t have that side effect. Take care.
I’m glad all is going ok with your eye, even though it it taking a bit for your brain to get used to the new vision. I hope it gets much better after the 2nd surgery. I suspect I will be facing this in the future, no idea when or how bad things have to get before they say it’s time, so I’m glad to read how it’s going from people somewhere in between “absolutely no problem” and “OMG, it’s been a horrid experience”. I’m glad you have someone to help with the mailings.

So sorry you are having trouble with your eyes at the moment. They are so important and I do hope the cataract operation is successful. It must be awful for you but I’m so glad you have someone to help you with your work. They do say that once the eyes adjust to your new vision everything is so clear. Hopefully you will have very good vision after both eyes are done. Take very good care of yourself.

Hang in there Mary – I promise, your eyes WILL get better. I know I had a lot of doubt when I was going through the process but it came out great in the end. This is a good time to be spending doing some designing because actual stitching isn’t going to be on the agenda for a bit. Take care of you!
My schedule never allowed me to stop and see the engine, but I did have the good fortune to unexpectedly drive along side it for a short distance when it went through Iowa last time. Such an awesome machine! The sound, the ground shaking rumble… I’m glad you got to see it right out your window.
Decades ago I wore contacts and on occasion would tear one and go around wearing one contact. I don’t recall having any issues, but then my brain was much younger and may have been more adaptable. I’m glad eye #1 is doing great, and yes it will be nice to have both of them working the same again!
