Hand embroidery books and tools and accessories are all well and fine – we need them to inspire us, to help us learn, to get the job done. But when it comes to actually producing a beautiful piece of needlework, it’s the basic materials that make all the difference in the outcome of the work.
I’ve said it before, and I’m sure I’ll say it again. The fact is, average embroidery done on good materials will always look good. Exquisitely executed, perfectly stitched embroidery done with poor materials will never look better than just average. And poorly stitched embroidery with the wrong materials will pretty much always look like poorly stitched embroidery with the wrong materials.
The basic materials you use in your embroidery – the fabric and the thread – determine the difference between an average outcome and an exquisite outcome. If you take your embroidery seriously – if it’s more to you than just a fad or a craft that fills time and will eventually be faded, discarded, and forgotten – then eventually you’ll want to invest in the right materials for the best outcome and for the best chance of longevity.
Today’s give-away offers some of the Best basic materials on the market today for hand embroidery.
For this Ninth Day of Christmas, courtesy of Access Commodities, two stitchers out there will receive a nice length of hand embroidery linen and some beautiful silk threads.
This is Dower Quality Legacy Linen, which is made (you could pretty much say) from the ground up specifically for the hand embroiderer. It is the finest embroidery linen available today, and absolutely beautiful stuff. Alabaster Angel is a 48 count linen, in white. It can be used for very fine counted work as well as all kinds of surface embroidery. This is my go-to linen for practically any type of surface embroidery and it works well for anything from free-style surface work to cutwork to whitework to goldwork – you name it. For example, I used it for my blackwork fish project a couple years ago. I’ve also used it extensively for goldwork and silk embroidery, and I’m currently using it as the ground in my Medallion project.
Napery Ivory is also a 48 count Legacy linen, in a barely-ivory color. It is similar to Alabaster Angel, and can be used for the same applications.
Both linens have plump, round threads that completely fill the weave, in both warp and weft directions. This is what makes them so ideal for surface work. Though you may run across the occasional small slub in the fabric (which is characteristic of linen), you will not run across super-thin threads with large gaping holes between them. Whether you’re working with heavier threads or very fine threads, these linens will take the thread well and give it good support. With very fine threads, using a sharp embroidery needle (a crewel needle or a chenille needle), you can split the threads of the fabric easily, to get the exact placement for each stitch you take.
The winners of today’s give-away will receive one or the other of the two linens, in a generous cut.
Each winner will also receive one Ensemble de Soie, a collection of various weights, twists, and types of silk thread. The majority of the threads in each ensemble are silk thread threads by the French manufacturer, Au Ver a Soie. The white ensemble includes 8 types of thread, all whole spools or skeins: Trebizond, Soie d’Alger, Soie 100/3, Soie Gobelins, Soie de Paris, Soie Perlee, Soie Chenille, and Accentuate Metallic Thread.
The black ensemble contains 10 types of thread, all whole spools or skeins: Trebizond, Soie d’Alger, Soie 100/3, Soie Gobelins, Soie de Paris, Soie Perlee, Soie Chenille, Accentuate Metallic Thread #971, Accentuate Metallic Thread #269, and Bijoux Metallic Thread #470.
Both collections of threads will give the beginner and the experienced embroiderer alike a wide variety of types of threads to experiment with, or to use in one or several projects.
Give-Away Instructions
Today’s Ninth Day of Christmas give-away winners (two winners will be drawn) will each receive a generous cut of one of the fabrics above, plus one or the other of the silk thread ensembles described above.

Both and neither.
I would use the 42 ct linen for cross stitch, it would be nice miniature even if I stitch over two. I love high count fabrics! This way I could stitch many large projects on a relatively small piece of fabric.
The thread I would use where the pattern wants some sparkle or silkiness, not all together, but wherever I need them.
Keeping my fingers crossed. 🙂
I would split the materials up for small projects, trying different techniques on each!
One project at a time, I am afraid. I practice other types of needle arts (knitting and crocheting) so I cannot stretch myself that thin. I would use the supplies offered to make a music-related piece that I’ve had in mind for a long while. The circle of fifths as a tool for teaching students the different scales on the piano. It is something I’ve been wanting to do as a gift for my piano teacher for a long time now and I just haven’t had the time or opportunity to do it.
That would be a rather large project, so I guess it would fall into the “full-sized dream project” category.
Wow! All that linen has made me go all starry eyed.
Best,
Viv
I think, I would make some special big project. Such nice linen needs something special.
Agne (Lithuania)
I would use the linens and silk threads in many projects. My hands are itching for them! Thank you, Mary, Hedgehog Handworks and Access Commodities for offering these fine materials and silk threads.
I absolutely love embroidery linen and silk threads. This give-away would just be perfect for me to launch myself into a full-size project for my dinner table, using all the thread types.
Best regards,
Catalina
Wowsa, that looks really really good.
I really cannot decide what to do, on one hand I would love to do something over the top and on the other hand I would like to try a number of different projects.
All the materials looks so good and luxurious.
Tania
Oh, decisions, decisions. I guess it would depend how much material there is. I just bought a beautiful pattern for a large sampler, so I could use it for that. Or I could use it for smaller projects – a number of different irises.
(I’ve done petitpoint on 48 count silk gauze, but never worked with 48 count linen. I think the results would be lovely.)
I would love to receive that material!! So good quality! So well to our eyes!!! And imagine for touch! What should I do with that? Not a big project because it take to long but for sure some beautiful little projects in that thread of silk – gorgeous whites! Let us have fun with your give-aways!! nancy
G’day Mary,
I’m for lots of smaller projects. Manageable for me to keep focused and finish. I need the interest of a variety of stitching and design styles and items. Warm thanks to HH, AC and you, Mary for this very special giveaway. Cheers, Kath from Oz.
ps, yes it’s really KfromO’s ‘tiny’ comment. As always, dependably varying!
Many projects. I like to spread myself around.
I already have several large projects on the go, so I think it would be nice to use them for some smaller projects. On the other hand, a large white on white project or even a black on white project sounds very appealing 🙂
Hi Mary, another lovely give-away but a tricky question! I have a big project in mind and I’m currently searching out linen or really, really nice cotton for its background. This would be absolutely perfect – either one. I haven’t found what I want yet in the UK!
The threads though, I think they would definitely be used over several small projects. If I was lucky enough to get the black threads, I would probably use them for several blackwork projects and a few other things besides. The white threads would probably just be used along with other things in all sorts of projects. One always needs lovely white thread!
With such an amazing stash of stitching supplies, I think I would want to work on several smaller projects. It would be a great adventure to experiment with so many different materials!
Wow! I would probably admire them for a while and then try to divide it for as many of my favourite designs as possible.
it would be many projects – I love CQ work so I can see using this on different in work CQ projects!
Blackwork/whitework – it would be hard to choose which to start, but I can see some small experimental projects at first. It is not easy for me to obtain such fine linen and threads, so I would have to be sparing and savor their use.
would like to win this to do a series of small projects which would go together as a sort of collage on the wall as usual another wonderful gift to win
i think i would try all the threads on just 1 of the fabrics and see how they work together? as i’m partial to black i’m envisioning black stitches on some of that nice crisp alabaster linen.
Wow! What a wonderful gift of linen. I’d savour these pieces and make several smaller projects. That way, the pleasure of working with the linen and threads would extend throughout the year. Thanks for the chance to win!
Mary I would like to experiment the different threads on small projects..
ohhhhhhh I would love to stitch a sampler on this stuff! you are so right…not many carrying the GOOD stuff anymore…I love doing samplers and LOVE LOVE LOVE linens…the thread looks delish as well…so I would probably find a hugeeeeee sampler to use it all! ty for a chance…and yes, marked them on my favs list..ty ty ty
Ah, Hedgehog — also my go-to place for many good quality supplies! This wonderful give-away is generous of them (and Mary!), and I’m grateful for their participation. I would use these materials in various projects.
It’s so nice to so many different types of one color (black or white in this case), to be able to see the subtle differences in the threads. And the linen! Goodness, I’d hold it in my hand for a while and see what it wanted to be. Alabaster Angel is a favorite of mine. I’ve never used Napery Ivory, but will have to add that to my “someday…” list to try.
Hi Mary!! I’d definitely split up these gorgeous materials into several small projects. They’d make excellent giveaways for my family and friends.
Have a lovely day!
Libertad from Argentina
You are right, it is best to have the best supplies at affordable prices. I want to be proud of my project and have it admired and last for years. My project with these supplies would be a large project and any leftovrs used in smaller projects. I have worked with some Au Ver A Sole threads but never the Dower Quality Legacy Linen. I like to work with linen and being able to use it for variuos techniques has me very excited to use it in my next project.
Hmmm. This is a toughie. I have never learned any type of needlework by starting out with something small so I’d be tempted to just splurge and go with something special. But with such special fabric and threads I’d also be tempted to ration them to savour on smaller special projects. Decisions, decisions…
As I’m a beginner in surface embroidery, I would experiment with the material, mostly with the silks. I’ve never used this kind of I quality material and I would need to get used to it before tackling a bigger project. Thank you for this wonderful giveaway!
If i were a lucky winner of these items i would place them in a beautiful box and enjoy drooling over them until i found the RIGHT project to use them in. i’ve never worked on good embroidery linen so i would search high and low for a project worthy of the fabric
sharyn in cincinnati
Mary, I think I would have to split the fabric into more bite size projects. I find I can actually finish the project if it is smaller to work on. I shamefully have found out that large projects seem to end up in my draw of UFP. It seems I get bored working on the same thing for very long.
I’m excited to try a series of small projects. Usually I go for the big extravaganza, but I’d like to FINISH something!
Another wonderful giveaway…I would probably use this for several smaller projects as I have beeen reading the Helen Stevens books, books on goldwork and stumpwork and really am going to play with these technques this year. I also have one large project in mind that I need to revisit and the white theads would be a perfect place to begin. But either packet of threads would be a great gift. Thanks again for this great giveaway.
Oh to do a whitework with those threads and the special fabric would be just lovely. And whether to do just one large project or several small ones – well, I’d have to win first before I could decide.
I would probably ration them out for smaller projects. All gorgeous materials for sure. Thanks for all these giveaways.
I would definately stretch them out for multiple small projects. It is my goal to learn every type of needlework I can. The ideal is to have a stash of many fine fabrics.
I am in the process of setting up a card file with samples of fabrics along with notations of source and best type of needlework applicable to the fabric. I got my inspiration from the Needle Index purchased through Valley Quail Chapter EGA. I plan to to the same with threads.
Is this a temporary diversion for me? Not at all, there are is so much inspiration “out there” that I can’t imagine ever having the time to do all I want to do.
I would love to enter the ninth day of Christmas give away. (Embroidery linen) I have never used this type of linen before. I think I would use it in several pieces for different designs. Unless there is a chart that requires a large piece of material that I would be stitching. The link to comment is not available so I am not able to sign up for the give away.
That’s an interesting question! normally when I acquire something really special, such as a fabric or a yarn/thread, I tend to dole it out sparingly so that I still have it. Then, I end up with no showpiece for that special item. So, in this case, I say I’d go all out and make that showpiece!! Beautiful fabrics and thread! Thank you!
Hello Mary,
If I won this give away, I would probably do a lot of little projects, just in case launching into a large experiment might prove too much and would be such a waste of fabric that I could never dream of finding here.
Kind regards
Oh how lovely are these, I think I would HAVE to do a large project with todays giveaway if only to show off the beautiful threads.
Hi Mary,
Legacy Linen in Napery Ivory is absolutely my favorite ground for embroidery. I’d love to try the Alabaster Angel as well. I would both experiment with the threads and create a dream project that uses at least some of them, enjoying every moment.
All your giveaways have been a fantastic journey into seeing the best of the best for hand stitching in a myriad of techniques.
Lee C.
This one is easy for me. As I have no experience in the finer things, I’d split it up so that I could savor and learn. A very small sampler here, a monogram there… I want to touch these things, feel them. That must sound crazy to someone who uses them all the time. For someone like me though,it’s a once in a lifetime chance to touch fine things like this (unless the Lord has plans for me that are quite unexpected. Whatever He has for me is best though, so I”m happy with my lot in life!
Mary, this is a dream giveaway! I would love having these fine materials to use for future projects. Since I am currently working on two large projects, I would definitely use this linen and silk for exquisitely small projects, with a lot of variety in colors and type of projects.
-Sharon in France
I would use the linen and silks on many different projects. I like to have a rotation going where I can work on one for a while then work on another. It is nice to have no-brainer projects mixed with very challenging ones.
Good Morning Mary,
Yes I can see myself using these materials on many different small projects. I hope I win something :0) I never won anything before. Thank you for the chance to enter.
PBWY,
Jennifer G.
The linens and the threads are such a treasure. I think I would “play” with a bit of each thread to see how it handles and then use them in many different projects. Adding that touch of “bling” to a needlework project may be just what it needs to really make it shine above the rest. That way I could prolong the enjoyment of all the various threads instead of having them all disappear into just one project.
Hi Mary!
Beautiful – I lingered on Hedgehog Handworks
looking at all of the threads and silk ribbons.
I must admit – I do prefer to work with colors rather than blacks and whites – That’s just me – However, that being said I do love the classic look of whites and blacks –
If I were to make some thing with very expenive
fabric and threads – I make little things – maybe a brooch – I learn new skills by making little things – I found “inchies” tiny 1″ quilt sandwiches fascinating – using various
threads and yarns – yet having some leftover to continue to look at.
Thanks Mary –
I absolutely love Alabaster Angel but haven’t tried the Napery Ivory. I’d love to win it and a thread set.
I’m not sure what I would use the supplies for — but being in the midst of a large project now, a series of smalls sounds good.
Due to my actual condition I think I’ll work small projects (after a surgery my left hand is a little inactive with some prickings (?) but I am much better than a week ago what is very very good).
Have a great 2012!!!
I have always wanted beautiful linens to work on and always settled for ‘less than’ quality. I didn’t really know where to order them from but will put Hedgehog Handwork into my favorites. I would have to say with my frugal nature I would use the fabric for several projects to get the most from it. I’m not really experienced enough (or patient enough) yet to do a large project.
Thanks again for another great resource!
I would love to try this fabric and thread out. I often use 40 ct so going a bit higher would be delightful. I have worked with some of these threads but some would be a new experience that I would look forward too.
I think I would do one or two smalls and then choose a large piece to do with this set.
Thank you for an opportunity to win.
Judy Starkey
If I were lucky enough to win today’s give-away, I would probably hold the fabric a little while, stroking it, admiring the round threads, and dream about various projects. I would drool over the silk and feast my eyes on the thread. It would take me a little while (not long because I’d be so eager to start) to get up the nerve to use tne fabrics and thread. Using something this fine is slightly intimidating but also alluring and dream-worthy (an isn’t that part of the fun?). I would use the linen for a small project at first, and then I’d use what would be left for a larger, more demanding piece. The silk fabric would be stitched into a small crazy quilt block. Each stitch would be lovingly rendered and the joy of working with the finest materials would be nirvana!
Oh my, that’s a hard question to contemplate. First, I’d probably cuddle it for a while! In the end, I don’t think I could commit to using it up in one project and would devise multiple so I could enjoy it even longer.
Kathy
I think I’d do several projects. I’d like to do some whitework and some Dresden work and some crewel and some goldwork…. and so on!
If I were lucky enough to win today’s drawing, I would likely focus such beautiful fabric into a single project (either one full-size or several coordinated pieces)incorporating the wonderful threads together too. Thanks for the wonderful giveaways!
I am go big or go home kinda girl! I would do and opus of sorts! Oh oh oh! gorgeous! Thanks for the chance!
I would use them for small projects. That way I can enjoy working with them longer. They are beautiful!
I probably savor the linen and threads . use little and try out them on small project at a time.so many small ones..
Joanie M in west TN
I would have to say, savor it and try many smaller projects! There are too many sewing techniques, stitches and ideas to try. I may need to live forever just to get to them all!
Oh, goodness. I think I’d probably end up doing multiple small projects (probably after “warming up” on something less consequential).
Oh, I think it would have to be little projects. I’ve always admired the look of this linen when you’ve been using it
I have a couple of projects in mind that are just waiting for some good linen to work them on. This would be just perfect for that. The threads would probably be split up, although it would be interesting to try and come up with a project that used all of them. Something to think about, right?
Thank you again Mary, and all your sponsors, for these marvellous giveaways.
I would probably make a bunch of smaller projects with the fabric. I don’t know if I could settle on one big project as there are so many ideas out there to choose from. Making little things will be more likely to get finished and satisfy my need to try a little of everything.
Morning Mary!
For me, it would be many smaller projects. Since it’s been awhile since I’ve done any surface embroidery, I’m not sure that I would want to tackle something big. Beautiful fabric and threads! Thank you for this opportunity!
I would probably have several little projects.
Mary, I would love to experiment with these lovely linens, I would probably do a few smaller projects. And thanks for all the hard work in making these give-aways possible.
Elga from Centurion
What luxury to have the opportunity to work on fine linen. I’ve been wanting to take on a large project to really challenge my skills. I think I would look at the materials from that angle first.
Definitely the dream project! I don’t know what it would be, but it would be fabulous. Hedgehog is a great site. Once again, these are awesome prizes, thank you Mary,
Shelia in Oklahoma
I would choose to do some small projects, love good fabric!
I could go either way with such beautiful materials. I’ve been experimenting with both whitework and blackwork recently, so either thread kit would be magnificent. And the quality of the fabricv would spoil me for less expensive
Thanks again for the opportunity to win these beautiful materials
Kathy Pennington
Diggins, MO
I think I would use these beautiful fabrics and threads for a largish project – I’m just about to start a blackwork project and the variety of black threads would look spectacular used in it.
One or many? That’s a hard question. I have a number of projects milling about in my back brain that these would be good materials for. I’ve wanted to try the Legacy Linen since first reading of it on your blog. Maybe something small to get the feel of it, then look for just the right larger project…
I like to make many projects with my stuff. So i’d defintely do the later.
So true it is. I have cherished the projects where good linen and threads were used. Would love to add another project to this list. Thanks again for the chance to win.
I would surely split these materials to make smaller projects just to make sure they get finished someday. The white assortment would be great. I must admit articles of such quality are not readily accessible in my hometown and receiving them as a gift would be fantastic. Bonne journée !
Mary, how wonderful and giving you are! I’ve wanted to do a blackwork project for a while and have been gathering threads. I have pondered what fabric to use and you came up with the solution. What I have in my head is quite large so either fabric would work and the black threads would be my choice!
I think I would go for smaller projects, partly because small is what I usually do, and though I have worked with nice linen before, I have never sewn with silk (oh but I’d love to try!). So I guess small would be better for a first silk project. Hedging my bets as it were, just in case the first didn’t turn out well. But maybe I’m just too cautious!
Thanks, Mary for this opportunity!
Vivian M.
Ooooh! I would spread this out over many, many projects. As a cross-stitch enthusiast and hardanger practicer (no one is ever fully finished practicing), the linen would be a dream to work with! And the silks?! Oh, the silks! How I would love to create a beautiful piece of black work with the black threads. Or a lovely, delicate piece with all the various textures of white. Makes my hands absolutely itch!
Thank you, Mary for remembering that Christmas is not the end of the shopping season, but the beginning of the liturgical season ending with Epiphany! And, of course for all your inspiration and your willingness to share with all of us. You have truly used your “talents” well!
I am sure I would use this day’s gift for several smaller projects, maybe to practice motifs for a Baptismal gown I will bet making in the future!
I’m working hard to focus my stitching on things I REALLY want to do. . . so I would plan to use these yummy materials on a single, more ambitious project. I really like both whitework and blackwork. . . so either package would provide a wonderful challenge to find the “perfect” project to splurge on.
I would have to say I’d do a full blown all project. I started doing linen projects about 3 years, however I have to work small to keep costs down. Would love the chance to do a full size project.
Hi Mary, What beautiful fabrics and threads. I have been collecting information on ecclesiastical embroidery for a while and have been wanting to do something for my church. This may just help me on my way. Thank you.
Finding really good quality linen that I can afford is the bane of my sewing life!
I think I would go for lots of smaller projects, partly because I’m not experienced enough to really do the materials justice in a single piece but parlty because it would be great to have the chance to experiment with different patterns and techniques with really good quality materials. I quite like the idea of producing a sort of patchwork picture made up of lots of little things on a similar theme such as the farming year. Hmnnnn….ideas, ideas!
This give-away is sparkling ,I work often small and medium projects, but this time ,I would like a full project ,certainly a japanese embroidery…it’s my nice and pretty dream ..oh yes !!!!
Bonjour Mary,
I am a small project person. I would choose a small pattern from your file and enjoy the silk threads, The only silk thread I own is for blackwork, it is beautiful and so delicate.
Thank you
France from Canada.
With such fine fabric, I think I would commit to a grand achievement. This is the first give-away (so far)that has made me really decide to purchase the item being given away. I have done many projects that I am happy with and think look nice, but I wonder what these works would have looked like had I invested in a good textile. It is high time to embroidery on good linen to have really good examples to show to students in my hand embroidery workshops. My goal is to get people interested in doing embroidery – so showing fabulous work will help to inspire…
Thank you Mary!! Also – you have inspired me this morning to start Tweeting – I set up an account and am following you Mary!!
I would have to say I have many projects going on! (Who doesn’t!)
And then I would probably split it up into smaller projects!
Au Ver a Soie is absolutely one of my favorite threads! I think I would begin with a small project, just to get familiar with the fabric and all the fibers; then move on to one of the beautiful pieces I’ve drooled over, but never had the courage to tackle.
I would make several smaller projects. I have been saving cards with beautiful drawings that I thought would work up beautifully.
Silk and linen–one can only dream.
Louise B.
Savor using all the different types of silk thread on beautiful fabric in many small projects. Thank you.
Jean B.
Oh Mary, these are beautiful packets. I would definitely split these materials up between many smaller six inch projects. A crown and cross square for the front only of a prayer book, a Blackwork leaf, Whitework violets and a very small nine patch sampler (two inch squares). I would divide the prize with a shut-in friend, who inspired this senior citizen to learn something new each month.
I would like to make several small projects. I use to embroidery a lot when my children were small, and now that they are grown up I would like to do more embroidery to add to other crafting projects that I am working on. I have never had the opportunity to work on linen before, so this would be a nice treat…..
Oh! Mary. I’ve dreamed of owning a piece of this linen ever since I found your blog, many years ago now. We can’t get it in the UK so for me it would be a dream come true to own as piece. I don’t think I could bring myself to cut it , so I would make a stitch sampler with some white work, pulled and drawn thread work, cross stitch, motifs etc.Using the black threads would be very interesting.
Many Thanks for the opportunity.
Pam in Hampshire UK.
Oh – one large project so that the different threads can be compared and all the orts that are left over used in small things like greetings cards etc. I would love to experiment with all the orts but have a lasting, gorgeous project to keep.
Mary,
Another stunning offer! You will make two stitchers very happy. It would be fun to work as many of these into one project as I could. With the black threads, I’m thinking blackwork – the Accentuate and Bijoux would be great “bling”. With the white threads my first idea is drawn work, although I haven’t worked on that fine a count.
I would dive in and use a small piece of this right away. Bigger projects are a favorite of mine however, so I would consider for a while a larger project for the remainder. Both fabric and threads are beautiful, thank you for the opportunity!
Jenny P. from Kansas City
These precious materials would serve to make many smaller projects, going as far as possible. The fabric is beautiful, and the array of fibers is gorgeous! Yummy!!
This linen would be perfect for a tea cloth pattern I have which is a sampler of pulled and drawn thread stitches with hemstitching around the edge. The silk threads I’ll save for other, smaller projects. This is a great give away!
I would probably do small projects.
Wow this sure looks like the makings of a beautiful project. Have done cross stitch for years and embroidery many moons ago and recently rekindled my interest because of stumbling across your web site via Pinterest. This would surely get me off to a good re-start!
Mary
Many projects !! I am always full of ideas, projects, feelings…
I like to work on several projects at the same time 😉
Dear Mary,
Oh my! This 9th day of Christmas give away is delightful! If I were the lucky recipient, I would savor the linen and threads with small experimental projects. I haven’t worked on such beautiful linen or used silk threads like those in the give away.
It is back to work and school day for my family. The house is quiet and I hope I can maybe stitch a little today.
Have a great one!
Tania from Brooklyn, NY
I have never had the luxury of stitching on such a fine linen ! I am sure I would start in on a small project right away to experience it…and soon as I end this I want to click on the link to Hedgehog. Thanks again for this opportunity with your 12 days of Christmas give away.
Today’s question is a difficult one. The fabrics and thread would have to be left alone for awhile in order for me to drool over them (not directly over them). Then I would think long & hard about how I would put them to use. Most probably on smaller projects.
Cheers,
Linda A
Ontario, Canada
HI Mary
i would split the supplies up and make multiple smalls!
Hi Mary, I would definitely do some smaller projects although I might do a sampler, especially if I won the white threads. This past week, when choosing colours for our cottage I was amazed that when I said, “paint the walls off white,” the contractor presented us with a book of paint chips and said “there are 200 shades of off white.” And there were!! I think it would be interesting to explore the subtle differences in the white threads. And surely one of them would match our walls!!
Thanks again,
Dale
Ouch. Hard question. Hm. I think I would likely split it up after hoarding it long enough to accumulate a wide color spectrum of NICE silks and gold/silver threads, and then do a bunch of small, exquisite projects one at a time…
I think I would use them for small projects so they’d last longer. The threads and material are both gorgeous. Thanks for the chance to win them both.
One project, or many? I would defiantly split this lovely material into many projects. There are so many projects I’d love to do and being realistic, I am not brave enough to take on a huge project. I did a number of handwork projects when I was a young woman and have just recently picked embroidery up again. Your critiques of the various supplies has helped me tremendously and I look forward to checking out the Hedghog site.
Thank you!
What a great gift for today. I believe that I would use the silk on different projects. I am planning to take an online class from Catherine Jordan this year in creating a needlework map, and I’ll just bet that I could use some of the silk in that or another map after the class. Love to see all of the gifts for the 12 days of Christmas. It is so much fun.
Thanks,
Sharon K.
What a wonderful set and a great way to play with different threads.
Always would love to try those beautiful linens, surely for a single silk and goldwork project.
I would spread the wealth and enjoy the supplies in multiple projects. I really enjoy the variety that small projects offer.
Jean
I would have to do several small projects, but only after I have admired the threads and material for a while. Fabulous!!! Thank you again!!
Should I win, first I’d probably just fondle them for a while. Then most likely there would be a mid-size and smaller projects, as they would have more chance of being finished. The threads would also most likely be on several projects, instead of one. Maybe.
I could see myself making smaller projects. Since life gets busy I find keeping to smaller projects helps with accomplishing something special. Also, since I have not done a lot of this embroidery, small projects would probably be the place to start
Small projects. I want to do a smallish version of the blackfish in a different color, utilizing all sorts of different filling techniques and put it in a tray for my daughter for her bathroom. I can see it now….oooo…ahhhhh…Brenda Day, Wilmington, Ohio
Wow – another gorgeous giveaway 🙂 I think that, should I be lucky enough to win, I would carefully plan a large heirloom piece; if winner of the black threads, it would be a blackwork cross-stitch project, and if winner of the white, I would love to try my hand at whitework embroidery! I am new to linen and silk, and these packages look like the very ideal of everything a beginner like me could dream of 😉 Thanks again for hosting this wonderful giveaway series!
To me, these are “dream” materials and I would begin my one big dream project. Thanks for the chance!
Today’s giveaway is irresistible! I would love to work with such fine materials. I’ve done one or two silk embroideries, but having such a variety . . . I think I’d like to do a big sampler of the silks using special stitches. Thank you!
Oh, definitely many small projects. You get to try so many fun things that way.
This post actually made me drool! I think I’d have to split them up, I’d be worried about using all the linen for a big project, then making a big mess of it!
Such fantastic giveaways Mary! If I were to win this one I would definitely stretch it out and make as many small projects as I could possibly make out of this beautiful fabric and threads!
Mary, what beautiful materials! I think I would use them all at once for one spectacular project.
I think I would probably go all out and try one big project. This is such a beautiful material that I would hate to cut it apart more than necessary.
Ah, the linen…my daughter recently made a trip to Ireland. I asked her to please find me some linen. She was unable to find any “Irish Linen” where she was located. This linen and the lovely threads you are featuring today are wonderful. I would use them to make 1 project. Can you imagine how extravagant that would feel? Real linen and silk threads…I may think I am stitching for the queen!
Deb
I would rather work on several small projects. I have seen this past Christmas several ornaments that I would like to try.
I normally have several projects going at once. But if I were to win this wonderful giveaway I would use it to begin the footstool project from last years Inspiration magazine.
I would love the opportunity to win some quality products. I’ve used some kits in the long ago past, so it would be great to see the difference in the quality of the fabrics and threads, and know what I should be using now that I’m getting back into embroidery.
I would likely use the supplies in several different projects. Thanks for the chance to win.
It must be the smaller projects. There are times in life when you need a bit of luxury. I think of this as a needlework bubble bath! Put aside the cotton floss and luxuriate in silk!
I was always the one in our family who made her Halloween candy last all the way through the month of November. Today, needlework is my enjoyment, and much easier on the teeth! I stretch the materials to their farthest use and get as many projects out of the goodies as possible.
I never dive right into anything without mulling it over for awhile. I would savor the beauty of the threads and my what beautiful colors the winter whites are. Also, I would make several projects from the linen. It’s not often that I get the opportunity to work with such exquisite notions.
Thank you,
Wendi
What a wonderful gift! I think it would be used for several projects … just to stretch out the time I get to spend with this fabulous fabric and the silks.
I would do many smaller projects.
They finish up more rapidly, and would give me the opportunity to try & learn many new stitches and techniques.
Gosh Mary, what I would give to have some good quality embroidery linen. Having read your blogs about the linen you use, I have trawled shops and web-sites for suppliers of Legacy Linen in the uk and Brussels (I live in Belgium)without success. Thus, if I were a lucky winner, I would most probably save the fabric for a while and then use it for a special project. I think I would experiment with the silks, working smaller projects, as whilst I am familiar with a couple of them, I’d love to try the others.
Oh, my goodness. What a give away! If I were to win this fabulous gift, I would plan several smaller projects so I could experiment. Generally. I am a big project person, but not having to spend dollars for the fabric and threads would be my chance to not always play it safe.
I think smaller experimental projects would be the way to go with this wonderful material and thread. I have a lot to learn ….
This is yet another question for yet another lovely giveaway! Merry Christmas! I would make the linen last. It is gorgeous and I don’t have access to good linen. I would love to make many exquisite miniatures with it. It would be the same for the silks. I want to make whitework and blackwork pieces.
More than likely, I would play with some little projects.
I have a lot to learn about embroidery materials. I would be ever so excited to get one of these packages!
Your 12 Days of Christmas is A W E S O M E and informative!
Many projects. Although if I won the black ensemble, several of the threads and the linen would go immediately into my next project: blackwork vines with golden highlights. The design features 12 different flowers set in a lattice of curling vines. It’s based on a late Elizabethan coif and head cloth. The Elizabthans assigned meaning to flowers, so this design bespeaks constancy, faithfulness, purity and piety. It isn’t unique in its meaning or elements (there are several surviving embroidered coifs) but it is in the balance of the design, being well proportioned to the modern eye. I’ve been planning this project for over a year, so the linen and thread in today’s give-away would be very welcome.
I would definitely do several smaller projects, it would take some time to determine which projects I want, but I’m sure I could find something.
I usually am a big project person. Lovely, lovly giveaway…. I think I would divide and do two medium projects!! Great post on using good quality supplies!
I’m currently enjoying smaller projects. I’d use these materials is a number of projects rather than in one large stitchfest. I’d never finish a project that large if my past is any prediction.
I had a hard time getting to the comments section today!! All the prizes seem to be ones that I could surely use; you sure know how to find them!
I would use todays prize in smaller projects that may end up in a large one! As a crazy quilter, sometimes the blocks end up in a small project and if ‘I just love it!’ it may end up in a large project. Never know where my mind may go once I start something!! Usually ends up a bit different than what I thought it might..
Definately several small project, a greater chance to experiment and play, and to truly savor every last scrap of thread
If I won this, I would probably stretch it out into several projects. I’m a saver by nature :). Also, I’m very much a beginner, so I know I would be too overwhelmed by a big project.
As much as I’d like to say I’d use them all in one dream project, I know I’d use the threads over time and savor each and every one of them.
Would love to win the linen. Being on a strict budget keeps me from buying those beautiful types of fabric, and I’ve never owned silk embroidery thread. Wow, what a blessing it would be to embroider with those. Thanks for the chance to win.
Blessings
Oh! I am a beginning embroiderer, so this would be such an amazing resource for me!
I would definitely split the linen & thread use among many small projects, so I could utilize them most effectively.
THANK YOU for the opportunity!
I’m a novice when it comes to surface embroidery. If I were fortunate enought to win, I would probably sign up for classes and hope to do several small projects with these supplies. Success with those would give me the incentive to make future purchases from HedgeHog and do a larger piece. Someone is going to be very lucky! Theresa/OctoberLace
Hi Mary,
I gave myself a delicious new pattern for Christmas, and would definitely use this fabric. It would be so perfect. Plus it would mean traveling to my favorite needlework shop in Tucson to purchase all the threads. Thank you for the special inspirations you have given us. I’ve only recently discovered your website and start all my mornings with it.
Clara in Clifton, AZ
Oh, my! I LOVE today’s giveaway. I’m salivating over both the materials and the threads. In fact, I think I have brain freeze as a result–I can’t make up my mind if I would use the threads all in one project or in smaller separate projects. I have never done a large dream piece for myself, so I’m leaning that way. But to use those threads and fabric slowly and savor their look on multiple projects…again, all I can say is “Oh, my!” Please choose me…
Sue U
Hello Mary,
Thanks for the generous gifts. I have two projects in my mind that I would like to do the designing myself. I am not quite sure about their sizes yet, but if I end up getting the ivory linen I’ll use it for these two projects if the size permits. Hedgehog Handworks is on my list for goldwork kits.
Thanks again
Haifa
I think I would split them up – use them just a little bit at a time and savor them. Times are rough right now and I have a hard time justifying buying expensive embroidery supplies when we are trying to make ends meet – this would be a dream that I would cherish for as long as possible.
Such lovely supplies would need to be used on a special project, to me. I’d like to try a medium project or two, depending on how much fabric there is.
This is just such a wonderful prize ! I would most definitely stretch the precious material out and also the threads to use for smaller projects to give to special friends. The sponsors for all these gifts have been so generous.
Savor and stretch the threads. The linen would be snapped up and used ASAP. Thanks for all of the links to sites I’ve never perused before!
Hi,
I like to make small things, so I would probably spread this out. But, maybe I would use it on a big project. I do want to do some blackwork. This kit is beautiful and would love to win it.
Good Morning!
I would most likely make several small projects with all the beautiful threads provided, and anything I don’t use
I would ive to my Mother who has been cross stitching probably since she was a child.
i would love to experiment and play with these materials on a number of small projects. there is still so much about needlework that i would love to learn!
Oh, what lovely materials! I would use these gorgeous materials in several projects, but I would have a terrible time deciding which projects.
I will make use of them in one project, especially with some gold together.
Easy. One. Probably. Depends on the size of the cut. It’s all relative.
Uh…well, you know, I would have to compare it to what’s in the stash too.
I would try to use them all (plus maybe more?) in a project like your blackwork fish (which I love!). Or, I might try to do your crewel rooster (which I also love!) in blackwork or whitework.
I have maybe a dozen projects for which I’ve collected all the supplies and even though they’ve been sitting for eons, I enjoy knowing that when I finally get ready to work on them I will have what I need.
Marilyn P. in Las Cruces, New Mexico
I would probably make several smaller projects, as we are moving into a new home in the summer. And the walls are crying out for something speical to be placed on them.
Oh wow, thanks Mary for another wonderful giveaway. I would definately use the linen and silk threads for smaller projects, that way I could really enjoy these gorgeous silk threads thanks for the chance Kathy in Missouri
Okay I admit I need another project like another hole in the head. But I want want want this giveaway. Thank you Mary for your generosity.
Stitchfest, but with multiple stitchings going on at the same time!!! This is a very nice gift!
Avis in VA
Oh this prize looks like so much fun to play with! So to answer your question, I would use this package to try several different smaller projects to practice and just have fun! Thanks for the chance to win this lovely prize on the ninth day of Christmas giveaway!
Wow, what a win this would be! I would do a cutwork runner in white for my dressing table and then launch into a blackwork project that I have a pattern for, and which I would like to show at our next Royal Agricultural Show (Crafts Section)in Pietermaritzburg. One could only be spoilt with such fantastic quality materials.
Oh MANY! SAVOR! What a treat it would be to stitch with such fine materials! The things you are giving away are the stuff (embroidery) dreams are made of!
If I were to win, I’d probably embark on a larger project. Getting to play with the juxtaposition of the different thread textures and really see how they interact seems like a wonderful journey.
My answer is–a little of both.
I tend to do larger projects on pieces like this, so I would probably find a stumpwork design to do. Depending on the size of the linen pieces, I might be able to get more than one project of out each one, but I would likely not cut them up into several smaller projects.
The threads, however, I probably would use on multiple projects. I usually don’t do monochromatic pieces, so these would get split up.
Carol S.
I would use the fabric for several projects and would incorporate the threads using techniques. Stump work is one example
Hi Mary!
I would go for the all out stitch fest!!One huge project…over the top…extravagent!!!! Then I would rethink, and probably be more realistic, and do a few smaller projects. :)Thank you!
Blessings,
Jen B in Oregon
I would do many projects and stretch them out and savor them over a long period of time. 🙂
Oooh these are gorgeous! I would most definitely attempt one large project. With either option, I would also introduce a fun pop color into the mix. As for the design? I am envisioning something geometric, maybe something Escheresque…
What beautiful fabric and threads. I envision lots of Christmas ornaments in white and gold;
delicate snowflakes, an intricate cross, a tudor rose and many more. I love small embroideries where every little stitch and detail counts.
Laura va beach
I have never worked with anything this beautiful. It would be a dream to use! I think I would have to do one big dream project. All these items scream to be worked together on one design over a long period of time. This would be such a treat!
I would use these in several smaller projects. I have not used linen or silk before so small projects would be best for experimenting.
I would love to do a dream project with this material. However, I have to be realistic too. I think many smaller projects will be what I plan to undertake with this loot.
So much information, Thank you. I have tried many big projects, and have not been so successful in finishing, so I would do several small ones which I could finish and try out different techniques.
Oooh,
I’m in love with Ivory threads and Linen.
I’d create a pair of fine corset stays for a
royal and embroider them with these fine
silk threads. I’m inspired!
Oooh, I would have to do one big dream project! Couldn’t imagine anything less for such beautiful threads!
Gosh, what beautiful threads and fabric. I made the mistake as a beginner choosing my first two projects as very large and detailed (my ambition gets me every time) As a result 2 years later they are still not done. I would definately go for smaller projects with this assortment. Thanks for the chance to win 🙂
I would split this into multiple projects.
I can’t see breaking up these sets into smaller projects. I’m the one with the huge project in mind even when I am learning a new technique. This sometimes results in a UFO, but generally I stick to a project until it is finished. Honestly, though, I once paid a friend to finish a cross-stitch with over 70 shades of green, similar symbols for different shades of colour, and 10 pages of graph that had to be blown up so thatthe symbols could be read.
Several projects so I can experiment with different threads and techniques.
I would probably split it up. And I would have to hunt long and hard to come up with just the right pattern to use these gorgeous supplies! I tend to hoard things like this for a while. Just knowing I have it brings happiness to me 🙂
I’ve not tried embroidery as extraordinary as what I see on your site, Mary, but am very interested in starting a project like this during the first part of 2012. I enjoy so very much reading about the linens and threads. Thanks for the website – it’s beautifully done.
Donna
Since I don’t really have any ambitions (yet!) to do any BIG project, that “generous cut” would definitely make its way into many smaller pieces. I’ve never worked with very good fabric, so the opportunity to try it without investing any cash on my end is very appealing!
This is something I’d have to spread out over several little projects and savor. Such wonderful materials.
Oh dear, I think I’m starting to hyperventilate! I could never use all the materials on one large project – but would savor each bit over time with lovely little works.
I have only done surface embroidery once and used twill cotton. I have never even heard of these fabrics and they look like they would be heaven to stitch on. The thread collection are also amazing and would give you the opportunity to work with a wide variety of beautiful threads and add to your knowledge of fabrics and fibers available. I could see doing some very large fine art reproduction with them.
Wat beautiful fabric and threads! I would be a dream to stitch with . If I win , I will put all items on a table to admire them till I see the perfect project for it, worth to wait and savor them!
Most likely it would be many little projects. I fantasize about launching into a huge gorgeous project, but since I’m still new to everything I am taking it slow and small to start with. This is probably my favorite giveaway so far next to the wool threads.
I would take the class you have been talking about and do my project with this wonderful material. I would like to know what it feals like to work with realy realy good material. I would use it carefully and hopefully have enough to do a couple of christmas ormaments for next year.
I’m going to say I would use the materials for several medium size projects. My friends might laugh at that statement because I have a reputation for doing large projects.
Elaine in New Mexico
I would definately stretch this out and savor each material and project! I’ve never used such fine materials before!
What beautiful materials! I would use them for several smaller projects so that I could try different things.
I would probably use them on many different projects. I always have quite a few on the go.
I would probably use them on one project. I try not to start a new project until the existing one is finished.
I would definitely cut it up into smaller projects. If I ever get really good, I would buy more for the big project.
Well Mary, I think you have outdone yourself on this one!
For myself I think I would just gloat over them before I decided exactly how to work with them. Just to look at materials like this for a while will be satisfying for me, and then I can dream up some wonderful design to use them with. A beautiful sampler springs to mind immediately – but the possessive drooling first!
the winner will be very lucky. Hedgehogs is a very good embroidery furnisher
If i were fortunate enough to win this package, I would use it immediately to make Casalguidi project, size would be determined by the linen. I love heritage linens and as a child I embroidered at my grandmother’s knee. She was a master of needle arts and this project would be used to honour her memory, test my needle skills and to create my own heirloom work, which I know will be treasured by my grandchildren – when they arrive!
Oh, lots of smaller projects to get the “feel” of working with nice stuff! As the primary caretaker of my granddaughter (who is a toddler) I don`t have a lot of time to devote to a huge project–and the satisfaction I get from completing even the smallest thing would be great!
I think I’d stretch it out among several smaller projects, since I’m not all that skilled yet and too chicken to splurge on something big. BTW, I like your fish, and the story that goes with it. I have many times given up very close to the end of all sorts of projects. Thanks for the encouragement to finish them. I think I need to learn to appreciate my work even if it isn’t stellar.
Although I hate cutting fabric, especially beautiful fabric because it seems so final, I would make little projects — I like miniatures!
Definitely split up into many smaller projects. Au ver a soie is my absolutely favourite silk to stitch with!
Mary, I have long adored any form of whitework and really enjoy stitching on fine linen with silk threads. Most of the time I work on small projects but it has been an ambition of mine to make something larger, perhaps a tablecloth with matching napkins, so today’s give away would be absolutely perfect for this long-term project. Thank you
Barbara of the UK
Hi,
Hmmmmm, well that is a good question, i could use this linen and threads in many projects OR i just finished a Huge Sampler which these would of been perfect for. I would love to win them.
Thank You
Cheryl H.
Savor and dream… Sigh…
BTW, how well does this particular linen take dyes?
I have never worked on linens this beautiful, but I’m taking your comment to heart..paraphrased as: using a poor background will never yield fabulous results.
I would like to work one really nice piece.
Thank you for this opportunity.
I love watching what parts of the world the replies come from.
wow, wow, wow! I can see myself using the fabric for one project most likely. I tend to like large elaborate projects, though it takes me forever to finish them! I think I would use thew thread pack for many different things though. This is a glorious giveaway!
What lovely items for the giveaway! I think I would use several of the threads in one project, but not all. I’d want to add some other colors, so would probably buy the same materials in a variety of colors to use.
Oh my. How beautiful! I think I would do smaller projects at first, since I’ve never used such gorgeous linen. Or maybe I would do a whitework project!
Smaller experimental projects would be my thing. I’m doing Sharon B’s TAST and this would be good for some stitching on that some weeks.
I like to work on smaller projects because there are always more projects in my head that I want to complete as I’m sure is true with many crafty people. Also, with smaller projects I feel a sense of accomplishment whereas with larger projects I get bored too easily and they never seem to get finished.
Oh goodness. I would like to say that I would use such amazing linen for a medium project and them some smaller ones, but if I were truly honest that would be at least 6 months after receiving it. I would have to have time to squirrel it away and pet it and then agonize over if the project was worthy of such amazing material. Time to tell my SO what my valentine’s gift should include, thanks!
Oh my! I have only done a little work with silk thread. I have done some embroidery on linen for the Church, but it’s been a while. I’ve been wanting to get back to it, and this would really give me a big push in that direction, if I won it.
12 On the ninth day of Christmas day giveaway … I am breathless … but if I get one of these two kits … I will definitely try our best to divide it into smaller projects and savor every point, even every mistake … sure to keep a diary and photos … and put in my blog. to share with my friends of these experiences and emotions. Thank you,
Walfrida
Savoring, definitely savoring! Once I got over that (oh, in about ten years or so), I would make several small projects and share them with my friends.
I have many projects in progress–Hardanger, counter cross stitch, embroidery… I am also a quilter, who enjoys handwork. I envision using these items on several different projects, however the “fabric” portion would be left as close to it’s original size as possible. Other Stitchers are amazed at how many things I can get on one piece of Hardanger cloth, with the main design in the middle and ornaments, bookmarks, other small things all around it out to the borders. I try not to waste an inch!
I have always tried to finish a piece before starting another one. When I started a very large cross stitch picture on the first day of the Iraq war, I said a prayer each time I made a stitch….praying for the end of the war to come and praying for the safety of both our soldiers and those of the enemy. When I finished the piece over a year later, I felt as if I had helped to bring an end to that dreadful mistake in our country’s history. That said, finish what you begin as if you are on a journey that will change the world. You never know what good may take place. Peace starts with me.
Oh my goodness! I would spread out the truly wonderful fabric and silk threads! As I have said previously, I have to order everything I get because I cannot get any good yarns or threads or fabric close by and this would truly be a wonderful gift. I am so excited as to what I would work them into. WOW!!!!! I can feel the silk running through my fingers on the beautiful linen, oh so dreamy!!!!
Thank you for the chance to make this dream come true!
I have never seen anything as beautiful as ou describe. You can’t find great fabric just anywhere. I would probably use it on several projects. Thanks. Carol W, Windsor, CA
I’d probably split it up into lots of projects.
Hi Mary
WOW! What a wonderful giveaway! I would love to stitch something special on that beautiful fabric. I must admit I’ve never stitched on something so fine. I would love to stitch a Blackwork Sampler on it, especially with the black threads with all the different weights, which is something I have always wanted to do. So thank you for giving each of us a change.
Thank you for putting me in touch with sources of fine materials. It is great to have an expert giving advice to motivate me to elevate my embroidery.
Lovely! I would probably split the threads up. I have been wanting to try some blackwork and could definately see myself using the black threads for that, but experimenting with both thread and linen would be great!
Wow..that is a hard question. I would probably work on some smaller projects since I am a fairly new stitcher. I wouldn’t want to work of something really big right now until I get my stitches perfected. What a wonderful giveaway gift!
Linen and Silk!
I would definitely have to savour both before I decided on anything.
Right now I’m tending towards the large project, using all of these wonderful components together would make for amazing synergy. This is all very exciting just to think about!
These are 2 great giveaways, Mary! Thanks to you & Hedgehog & Access for this opportunity. I would definitely take the multiple small projects route in different techniques to really get a feel for the linen. I’ve used most of the thread types at one time or another. Thanks again for this giveawy.
Katherine
I would love to stretch this out over several projects! Fantastic giveaways, thank you so much!
I would do many little projects to enjoy the pleasure of working with great materials.
After being a “DMC Girl” for decades, I discovered silks this fall. I fell in love with them! I stitch exclusively on linen and would love to have these fabulous products to stitch one of my dream projects. I have an extensive list!
Thank you so much for your generosity and that of Hedgehog Handworks and Access Commodities. I would probably do multiple small projects since I’ve never had the chance to use such fine threads or materials. Thank you again.
Hi Mary I use Linen for special projects and I think I would use this for one project again it would depend on how large the piece of linen is..But using the threads oh my they would look wonderful on a large project I love silk threads I use them a lot in my projects I’m doing a Kimono right now all in silk threads..They are so nice to work with and they look OH so Shiek…What a wonderful pkg to win..Thank you Mary for the opportunity.
I would start out experimenting with the threads and different stitches. The threads and linen certainly look beautiful enough to display as they are. This give away looks like it is full of adventure and surprises. Thank you for keeping stitchers informed of products for our stitching.
As the fabric pieces are quite large, I think it would be a good idea to make two complimenting embroideries, to be hung side by side. Maybe if the linen were used for very small projects, its qualities would not be so apparent to the eye.
Hello mary,
This is mary varma here in india. Merry 9th day of christmas. You make me wish that there was another 12 days of christmas, so fabulous are your giveaways. The answer is many, definitely savoring and enjoying every bit of it. I’m not a beginner nor am i an expert, i’m in the middle so i know i’ll definitely enjoy it if i win.
Thank you
Hmm….
Not sure whether I’d do one project or several smaller ones.
Lately I’ve been doing full-cloth size projects. But I’m a creature of impulse and the variety of thread types may spark me in a different direction. I have to hold the materials in hand and let them speak to me before I decided. I suspect that once I see the threads, some smaller subsets or groupings will assert themselves, and sanity in the form of smaller projects will prevail, especially in ultra-labor-intensive white work.
Again thanks for making these available!
-K. (another Hedgehog fan)
I would definitely split the materials up into several small projects so that I could really experiment with them. Thanks for the chance at a great giveaway!
Oh, my. I think I’d portion the linen out; definately trying it out with a small project first of all, then doing several “real” projects as gifts or something. If I do a big piece, I think I’d probably use this linen as an embroidered ‘patch’ rather than using the lot all at once. I’m not sure yet whether the linen I can get here is the ’embroiderer’s choice’ – sometimes American and South African English don’t correspond 🙂 And this looks like very good fabric indeed, so definately multiple projects. I imagine it would feel like rationing a chocolate box!
I would split up the fabric for smaller projects and the ability to experiment with the threads in different ways.
I would cut them up for use. I am currently making a jewelry box for all of my nieces as they reach age 16. They can decide what kind of needlework they want on the top, and this would be great for that. I have had trouble purchasing good quality embroidery linen in the past. I live in a rural area so there aren’t lots of shops around, and I like to see and feel the fabric before I purchase it if possible.
Hi Mary,
This collection of fine fabrics and silk threads is just great. I think I would savour the moment and try to stitch several smaller projects so the moment would last longer for stitching with these fine materials. I agree a person needs to try fine things and it will really boost the quality of the final project. Hope I win this one! Thanks
Mary Ann H.
It all looks luscious!! I wonder if the linen would work for Hardanger as well as embroidery? I think I would look for a special project to use the yummy threads and linen. Thanks!
Karen in Breezy Point
I think I would experiment with the threads in several smaller projects – I have a series of little angels – I am not confident enough with silk to go full throttle with one large project. Most of my work has been done with regular embroidery cotton. Very anxious to try silk again. Thanks for the opportunity.
ooooh, what a great gift! I’d probably be deathly afraid to do anything with it at first, but I’m already imagining the perfect project for the white set — a recreation of a medieval women’s cap, with white latticework on white linen. It would be a good excuse to really put the time and energy into making it well, because I’m using the absolute best materials available.
For me it would certainly be many small experimental projects–and I have always preferred white work.
I would begin with a small project to get a feel for the threads on the linen, because I have never stitched with any of these products before. Then I would probably wait years and finally decide what I wanted to create with what was left. I love white work and so would love to get the white set, and do pulled and drawn thread work, with white embroidery. Thanks for another giveaway. Sandi
Mary,
Thank you for these special fabrics. I would probably use them for several small projects and then coordinate some sashing fabrics and turn it all into a quilt to hang in my foyer or on my sewing room wall so that I could share them with friends and clients as they enter. No matter what, I would love to just feel their smooth texture in my hands and would probably just play with them for a while before cutting. I love textiles and agree that mediocre stitching on good fabric looks much better than when put on poor quality “cheap” fabrics.
Mary, what a good day to receive this offer from you! I just saw your PDF book on Church Patterns and would be very happy to portion the fabric, use the white threads kit, and embroider palls for the seminarians of the Institute of Christ the King who will be ordained this year. Our nascent sewing guild creates small altar linen kits for these seminarians and asks for their prayers in return. An embroidered pall would be spectacular!
Celeste in Fairfax
I would probably use the linen for one large project that would encompass many different techniques.
Thanks for the chance to win.
I am a beginner. So I would prefer using the linen and silk thread in experimental small projects.
I would probably use these supplies for several smaller projects instead of 1 large project.
I think I would use these wonderful materials for one project.
I find it hard sometimes to cut a little piece out of a lovely fabric, it is a commitment! Depending on the size of your generous prize (Thank You!) I think I would cut off one end for smalls and make something ostentatious out the remainder. :>) Crossing fingers for Ivory & Black.

I agree that quality materials are essential to a quality outcome and have noticed that over the years, more of these materials are available, if you know what to ask for! I think I would embark on a special large project, hopefully of my own design, blackwork which would be new to me or whitework, which I have some experience with. Either would be full of exciting possibilities! Many thanks for the opportunity! Demi
It would depend on which set I won. If it was the white collection, I would probably space it out between a few different projects.
If I win the black collection, there is a blackwork coif I have wanted to try for a while. I think it would be fun to do with some texture and shine.
I think I would definitely split the materials up into many projects. That’s how my mind is working lately anyway! I’m having such a hard time focusing. As it is, I keep telling my husband new types of embroidery I want to try next! One thing I do need to do for any of my sewing and embroidery is invest in the best materials. I learned using easy to find, inexpensive items, but I feel confident enough now to want to invest in very good things now 🙂
Mary, thank you for another terrific offer! Today’s giveaway is a case of the sum of the parts being greater than the whole. Dividing the booty would kick several projects up a notch. Color-aholic that I am, the linen says “paint me” so if it came to live at my house, it wouldn’t stay white/ivory for long! The same is true of white threads. Special thanks to Hedgehog & Access for including Soie Chenille & Bijoux in the bundle–two fabulous threads. The chenille makes great dragonfly bodies (v-e-r-y careful bullions) & spider web roses. Bijoux adds elegant bling. Mmmm, mmmm good.
OH, love this one, I didn’t have to think a lot about it because there is something I have
wanted to work on for YEARS and never could figure out exactly how I wanted to do. I did a
rubbing on my g g g grandmothers grave and admired it for years because I have it hanging. The flowers are beautiful, so If I won the white ensemble that is that I would do. (And if I don’t now I know how I want to do it.) Love it, thanks Mary!
Happy New Year!
I am thinking wedding something….got my daughter’s wedding coming up in August and this just looks like it needs to be a part of it somehow – stitchfest!
I would make several projects as Ive joined a couple stitch a-longs this year. I’m a total new comer to hand work. Thanks for this giveaway opportunity.
I would use this on a couple of small projects – as a relative beginner, I wouldn’t want to commit all the loveliness to something that might go awry!
I would make something special for each one of my family. I have been wanting to try these exquisite materials. Thank you and Happy New Year.
Én több kisebb projektet készítenék belőle. Köszönöm a lehetőséget
I’m a mini-project person. So I’d be divvying this up and experimenting in small ways.
Thanks, Mary!
Dear Mary, I’ve embroidered all of my life and never had the opportunity or even the knowledge to buy the fabrics you were talking about. That would give me so much pleasure to make something beautiful for my daughter or granddaughter using those materials. It fills me with a sense of longing just thinking about them. Thank you for giving us these opportunities.
Hi Mary,
This is an amazing prize.
I would most likely use the items for a few different projects.
I do have some designs that I have come up with myself for which I need materials. These would be perfect.
Thank you, Greta596, Nanaimo, BC, Canada
I like to start huge projects … and finish them. Work very late hours at night untill I am finish. Yes I am obsessed by needlework.
Right now I am on a blackwork project, a gift to my husband I hope for Valentine day.
I can always use some more linen. Pick me !
wow…..I have to say the the 12 Days get better and better. As a beginner who lives in a rural area without access to the basic threads in our town I would most definately appreciate the materials. As for how I would use them? I would most likely do several small projects that I could spread throughout my home and share with relatives. I love the linen and threads. Always wanted to try white on white….I think it looks beautiful and the blacks are just as amazing. Thank you!
Fab giveaways! Linen and silk are two of my favourite things. I’m a newbie so some real quality fabric would be so useful — right now I just stitch on whatever I find…
I’ve never done any really big projects and not sure if I’d use it for smaller projects or not. In a way, when you get something this good, it’d be fab to do something big and impressive, something where it’s worth working with the best quality materials but I guess I worry about losing momentum and interest in the middle of it. But like someone else said before, if I was lucky enough to win, I’d probably spend a long time just savouring the treasure before even thinking about “desecrating” the pristine white surface [that’s what I feel like I’m doing when beginning to write in a new, expensive notebook/journal — silly but true].
(And I’ll have to find a glossary so I can finally learn what soie gobelins, soie d’Alger etc means.)
I have neither the time nor the discipline to tackle a huge project these days (darned day job), so I guess that answers the question, doesn’t it? 🙂
Thanks for another opportunity at something wonderful. Without knowing how big the fabric is, it’s hard to say what I would do with it, but since you say a generous size, I’m guessing I would use it for several smaller ones, not that I have any idea right now what they would be. I have never worked on 48-count before; I would have to think about that. It might be a challenge to come up with something, but I am game!
I would probaly do several smaller projects. The larger it is, the less likely it will get finished.
I would do just one project. I love Access commodities threads and know they would work perfect in anything I decided to stitch
I’ve recently enjoyed trying pulled and drawn threadwork so this would be a perfect gift. I agree that Hedgehog Handworks is a wonderful resource for those specialty items.
MANY! I think I would finally get back to my husband’s wedding vest (over a year late. I also have a few samples and a stitch diary that I want to keep this year 🙂 The linen would be perfect for some of that.
I can see many projects in this lovely fabric
I’ve never stitched on linen so I would definitely cut it for smaller pieces. With the beautiful thread I’d love to experiment with it and examine the potential.
Hi Mary and thanks for this wonderful contest!
I think these materials are beautiful and loving to do big projects, I would opt for doing a large sampler project using all these lovely materials. I love to start a big project and watch it unfold.
Jan B.in Florida
Beautiful fabric. I would love to win! Thanks for the opportunity to win some nice things. I’m just learning to embroider, and everyone I’ve asked on-line a question, they really go out of their way to answer.
Hello dear Mary
WOW! wonderful!
Thanks for this giveaway, you are very kind.
I think that I have only one project for this beautiful things! It’s one project in blackwork embroidery that I have in my mind.
I wish you all the best for this New Year 2012!
I would love to make a tablecloth and serviettes.Any small pieces falling on the sides I would use for small projects. Nothing would be wasted here!
Trienika
Wow! That’s some gorgeous linen! I’d be tempted to start a large project, probably something by Marilyn Leavitt Imblum or Nora Corbitt… but I’d probably use it to make a lot of Christmas ornaments for my grandchildren to pass on to their children. That’s heirloom quality materials.
Dear Mary
What beautiful prizes you are giving away
Well this is the creme de la creme of fabrics if I was so fortunate as to win this beautiful prize firstly I would have to feel touch and admire the fabric I would use the white threads and fabrics in one stitchfest, my niece/God child is getting married in July and I am contemplating ideas on an embroidery gift for her I have so many ideas going on in my head what colour fabrics/threads and design to use and the white fabric and threads in today’s giveaway prize would be used to embroider a gift for the couple.
If I won the darker threads and fabric I would probably cut up the fabric and use it on smaller projects and try my hand at something new like blackwork.
Regards Anita Simmance
Hi, I would try for a big piece of work, a lovely big project for my bedroom or sitting room!
Rach
Go big or go home! 🙂
I would definitely use it for several projects. I have never worked on anything that beautiful. I’m sure it would be a joy to work with. Thank you for the opportunity to win.
Wow! A dream for all stitchers!
I would use them on many different projects including blackwork and jacobean, my favorites.
The winner will be very lucky. I would love to be this winner.
Thank you Mary, Louise Qc
One project or many, wow. I am not sure I could decide right away. I would love to do some great big project for my church, but then perhaps smaller things to use on the altar. What fun to decide, I think a lot would would decide on the colors that it came with, want to use the really good stuff with the really good stuff as I have never ever seen any of this offered any where I shop for my supplies.
Maybe I would just hang on it and admire it for a bit. (was going to say drool over it, but that would be a bad thing, might stain) :O}
I love working with silks on linen. I woulD be tempted to do one big project, but in reality, I would plan to the. Last square inch and stretch the enjoyment out for as long as possible.
Hi Mary, What wonderful linen. Probably a few smaller projects. However, if I got the white silks ensemble, I might make some lovely whitework for church. Not my favorite, but these materials will inspire.
Victoria, Vancouver BC
I am drooling at the thought of being able to try all these fine materials. Since I have resolved this year to take my skills into the Crazy Quilting world I need to learn to use a wider variety of materials and threads than I have in the past. I would stretch these out, working them into experimental projects to learn their qualities, but I would also save some for my culminating project! And hope to have plenty left for getting on with my new hobby after that, too.
Hi Mary
I would try a huge project eitheR Blackwork or Whitework sampler I love a hugE drawn thread work that I could display
Thanks
Audrey D
I would probably use the materials in a sampler. A real sampler, where I experiment with stitch, fiber, and ground. I’d like to create a visual dictionary for myself to use as a reference for designing stitch guides for myself or for projects I create.
Multiple projects – To use that linen and those threads would be delightful. I have not done whitework or blackwork but I have done some redwork.
Je crois bien que je l’utiliserais en plusieurs petits projets. Ainsi je pourrais faire plusieurs petits cadeaux. Magnifiques couleurs.
All out dream project and displaying it for all to see and cherish along with me.
I would love having this assortment of linen and silk, since this is my favorite medium to stitch in. I doubt that I would use them all in one large project, but can see me using them in several smaller projects, along with other silk threads, etc. Thanks for all the goodies!
Ooooohhhhhhh…..So lovely! These are amazing. My life is changing right now – two sons married, one seriously involved, one grandson and another on the way. Wouldn’t these treasures be inspirational for an heirloom piece, or two or three? I would have to look at them, hold them, dream about them to plan what I should do!
I have a small project already in mind for some special linen!
Donna G
I would probably use these materials in several smaller projects. since i’m only a novice embroiderer i wouldn’t want to ruin good quality materials like this on a large scale!
d. altieri
Small sampler style project(s). I have several large projects that have turned into unfinished projects for various reasons, so I’ve learned not to be too ambitious.
Ooh, linen…. ! I’m a small project girl by heart, but that’s not to say the stitching wouldn’t be complicated – I’m just more likely to make several small pieces to give people than one larger piece.
One large project would be my vision, although I would have to handle the linen for awhile till it spoke to me about an exact design. I like whitework. I’ve done wool on wool and Hardanger (a favorite) projects. I’ve even done silk on 40 count linen needlepoint. I’ve never combined traditional embroidery with drawn stitches like Ayrshire work, this could be the opportunity for something new.
Thanks again for all of the variety of items being offered. Just dreaming about them is exciting.
Hi Mary,
What great giveaways! I’m back in town now after the holidays so I have time to leave comments here. I think I would use the fabric and threads for several smaller projects.
I love your blog! I stumbled across it a few months ago and have been following it ever since.
Thanks!
Angela
I’d love to try some really fine materials such as Legacy Linen and silk threads. I’m finishing up a design-for-embroidery class, and the prospect of (finally) using fabric and threads beyond the ordinary is inspiring. Depending on the exact size of the cut of linen, I’d make several small projects or a larger one, perhaps a sampler of stitches with different threads.
Hi Mary. Since I have lots of current, active projects, I’d probably use the materials in multiple ones. I like to have one ‘at home’, non-portable project and one take-along one, at a minimum. But I get easily distracted into starting something new and consequently have piles of UFOs. It works okay for me, since I’m a dabbler; but I know it would drive some people nuts.
I like big projects (even tho sometimes I bite off more than I can chew)so I would use it all for one big project.
Wow! These giveaways have been spectacular! I think I would definitely spread it out and savor all the wonderful fabric and silk. I love your site. I look forward to it every day!
-Heather in Chicago
This would be a great opportunity to do a series of small vignettes. Sometimes such a large area can be very daunting especially that I am a beginner. The black work has such a great graphic nature, but it would be nice to add a singular color to tie them together as a series.
I think I would use them in different projects.
I am not the kind that likes to work in all white or black.
If I win one of those two, I would make small projects so the pleasure would last longer. I would take my time to enjoy every stitch.
Thanks again
Ginette of Mexico
Wow! These are gorgeous especially the collection of white threads… They are almost too pretty to stitch with, but I would probably savor these threads and spread em out through a few smaller projects.
Thanks for this giveaway!
LOL oh definitely savor but I wouldn’t be able to hold out for long. I love all this information!
One or many? Hmmm… in part it will depend on the size of the linen. However, I’m inclined to say that it will be many. I enjoy working up smaller projects for that ‘instant gratification’. Regardless, I agree that a good end product requires good materials!
Oh, I would definitely savor doing several little projects…it would be too overwhelming to try to do one huge project. I am still learning so much.
What an awesome giveaway!! I would most likely use these materials for several smaller projects. It would be just the ticket I need to get going on a few projects that I have been drooling over 🙂
Thanks so much for the opportunity!!
Large projects are the joy of my embroidery life these days. As a younger woman with children and a job my embroidery projects were smaller because of time constraints. Now that I am retired I plan projects that takes several hundred hours to complete because I have the time. Yes, one of the joys of old age. Of course, there are always left overs from any project that I use for small things like needle keeps, pin cushions and bookmarks to give to friends.
I amsure there is enough here for several projects and one of themwould have to be a vaity scarfin cutwork if the prizes were to come to my house! What a great selection of prizes you are offering. Thanks, again, for the opportunity to win some new stash.
I would definitely parcel it out and make it last among many projects. It would be such a treat to use some of the same materials that you use instead of my usual lesser quality (cheaper) items. Great giveaway!
I really don’t know. I think I would try to get as many projects a possible out of such nice materials, but there’s always the chance that something big would show up for me to work on.
Oh Mary! These are exquisite items. Thank you & the donors for all of your wonderful opportunities.
It’s so nice to have found you as a source of expertise. I am definitely learning a lot. Living in “the wilds of outback Oregon” I rely on the internet for all of my supplies & fellow stitchers.
Being a cross stitcher also I always have several projects going at once. I would definitely hang on to these until I have more embroidery experience & have found the perfect project.
Thanks again for your “12 Days of Christmas” giveaways.
How lovely! Whether I used the materials for one project or several depends on the size and colors. I do have several larger ecclesiastical designs using whitework techniques waiting until I can afford good enough materials. With the black set of threads, I would break up the set (and the linen as well) into several smaller projects.
I’d try to do several, but I know it would be really difficult to make that first cut into such wonderful fabric!
I would spread them around, I think. It may be that to have them ‘in hand’ would make me change my mind!
I really won’t be able to decide until I actually hold the linens in my hands. It would be a challenge use it all in one glorious project, but then it might be equally fun to break it up and make 2 or 3 smaller pieces. But whatever I decide, it will be a perfect joy to work on fabric of this quality. I agree with you 100%, Mary. Always, always use the best quality materials that you can possibly afford.
Just seeing the even beautiful weave of the linen makes my heart palpitate. I think I would do several smaller projects because I usually want to share things that I get excited about – I’m really thrilled about stitching/sewing needlebooks right now. Oh, the possibilities!!
I would use linen for a one or two big projects. Leftovers I could use for small projects.Really good linen I would use for small icon of Nary Virgin. I would use DMC stranded cotton,my Czeh metallic threads and maybe some of Au Ver a Soie threads from your kits.
It would be wonderful to try all the threads, I’ve been only reading about.
It would be hard to choose , but I believe thatI would divide the linen up and use it in several small proects. For me there is nothing like working on quality materials…. I hope that I get the opportunity to try this linen…. Happy New Year to everyone….
Cathie Bridwell
I’d be tempted to sit on them for a while, but would have to use them all together on a big piece – make the most of such good materials!
I think I would want to work on several smaller projects, just to stretch out the enjoyment and materials. I would want to practice up before I would take on such outstanding materials. Goodness! Your giveaways are exquisite!
I would stretch them out into many small projects, savoring the experience for awhile. I love those Ensemble De Soie packets and will have to admit to you all that while I try to use the best quality fabric I can, I don’t often pop for the really good stuff. It would be such a treat to have some of that to work with. Thanks for the chance to win, Mary.
Hi, Mary. I’ve been wanting to do a series of small projects, all with a Halloween theme. This giveaway would be great to do these small items and create my ideas, especially with the black silk threads! Thanks for the chance to win.
Christy (ChrisTea)
What a truly lovely give-away! How I would adore being a winner. Would I use all the offerings at one time? I cannot say; I would have to see, touch, and feel everything before I determine its ultimate use.
I would use it for special projects only, so I might use it for one big project or maybe for a few smaller projects, it would all depend on what is going to cross my path.
I am very curious about the fabric as well as the treads and I would love to make something beautiful with them.
OK – this is where my heart beats! This would go into the “stash” of stuff that I am constantly drawing upon for projects, costumes, “little stuff”, or demonstrating FINE MATERIALS!!! I have a pretty good stash at this point, so am embarassed to throw my name into the pot — but I’m not proud!!! Thank you, Mary!
Oh Mary. Talk about the spirit of Christmas living all year round — you spoil us rotten!
As for these wonderful supplies, they’d definitely be used over multiple projects. I’d love to get my mitts on them for sure! 🙂
I see this as a variety of smaller projects. I like to make christmas presents for my friends and family, so this would end up being several projects.
Hi Mary,
I think that 2012 will be the year I actually start a project that I have been thinking about – sampler type – if I win this one! I’ve always wanted to try the Dower quality linen but thought that it was not available anymore. It would be a white on white silk sampler a larger polychrome sampler with white bands have both been brewing for a while… depending on size of the linen one or the other will be started if I win this.
I would use them over many projects. Stretching the enjoyment over a long period of time.
I think I would use the threads in many different projects and the linen in one big glorious ecclesiatical work.
If I were to win today’s give-away, I would definitely split it into mini-projects. We live in a small town, which used to have a great needlework shop. Now the nearest shops are 50 and 80 miles away. I read lots of magazines and blogs and have ideas I want to pursue, so I believe I’d be more likely to sub-divide the gift and use it for those than to try to project myself into one long-term project, though I am inspired by the project you were working on before Christmas (the one with the pretty silver threads). This will be a great gift.
I am making a New Year’s Resolution to do more embroidery this year. I was a fanatic for years, then got away from it for a while, but am definitely feeling the tug to come back. 2012 – The Year of the Needle!
Though I am trying to break the habit, I have a bad tendency to work intricate heirloom pieces that take me years to complete! I may not be strong enough to escape this bondage with these goodies, however. All simply stunning, another heirloom piece would definitely be called for!
I would use the fabric for smaller projects, though not tiny by any means. Probably 9″ or 10″ by 11″ or 12″. I would use the threads for multiple projects. I find if I use only one color in various tones and permutations for large areas or exclusively, then I get bored and it becomes difficult to finish the project. I would love the opportunity to try this linen and these threads. I have a project I am working on that is on Legacy linen (my first time) and it is unbelievable. Though I like the fact that these could be used for counted work also.
Hmmm. I love long, complicated cross stitch patterns. Just finished Teresa Wentzler’s big peacock ‘tapesty’ and am beginning another large cross stitch pattern soon, also w/lots of color and detail. But I think I’d try a modest surface embroidery project with the materials you’re offering, as they’re very fine and I’m new to this type of embroidery. It’s always good to start small when you don’t know what you’re doing!
oh, I would say I would make a few small projects and then use the remainder for a larger project! I am not that confident to use them all on one large project 🙂
thanks for another lovely, enticing giveaway!
happy 2012!
I would use it for smaller projects, which is usually the size that I prefer. I’m using my first piece of linen for the project that I’m currently working on and see how much nicer it is for stitching than cotton.
Happy New Year Mary,
Oh,those linens and silk threads are luscious. I do try to use the best of materials when possible. I think if I were to receive the white threads, I’d do a larger project in whitework of some sort, after going back to review some of the wonderful types you’ve featured on this blog. If I got the black, probably small little projects. With either color though, I’d be tempted to do all small treasures I could share with family and friends.
Thanks for your generosity,
Cathy in PA
Happy Ninth Day of Christmas!
What wonderful items! Such beautiful things would certainly be used in a larger item for ecclesiastical embroidery. Advent is currently in the works for next year, but Lent, Easter, and Penticost are coming up soon.
Thank you, Hedgehog Handiworks, and Access Commodities for such wonderful give a ways!
What an awesome giveaway!
I would probably use these materials in several smaller projects.
Mary – I would just love to win this wonderful fabric! I think I would make it last by doing small projects – although I’m sure it would be hard to cut into it! Again, thanks to you and your supporters for giving us this opportunity 🙂
Tomi Jane
Wow, what a stash! I’m not sure what I’d do, I can see a set of beautiful blackwork monogrammed napkins or a lovely blackwork overlay for a tablecloth.
What lovely gifts! I’m sure I’d make at least 2 projects from it since I seldom work on really large projects. It sounds like some beautiful materials to stimulate the creative juices.
I really think it would be special to work with this kind of linen, (I’ve not used linen very often) so I would need to make a special piece, probably using the whole length. The threads are to gorgeous for words. Mandy Currie (mandycurrie@googlemail.com)
I would hold on to the fabric and silk threads loving them waiting for the perfect project to come along. If I got the black silk I think a blackwork project would be in my future. Diane
At first I thought I would love to plan a huge, use everything at once type of project, but then I rethought and decided I’d much prefer to savor them. I haven’t spent as much on my fabrics as I have on my tools and threads and it would be a delight to have the lovely foundation to build upon.
Hmm, I think I’d break up the fabric into smaller bits. I never finish big projects! The threads sound like either a whitework or blackwork-heavy selection of projects, though.
I see many small experiments, mostly because that way even if I messed something up I’d still have more to enjoy, whereas if it were a giant project and I messed up I’d probably fall into a stitching slump.
It depends in part on the size of the linen, but I have several ideas for small or mid-sized projects just waiting for materials like these. Thanks for the great give-away!
I have not worked with even weave linen or silk so I would try small projects to learn new techniques and get a feel for the materials. Reading through the other comments provides a bounty of interesting project ideas!
I think I would spread out the materials for several projects. Thank you for offering such great giveaways!
WOW another wonderful give-away. If I were to win, I would spread them across many smaller projects. I enjoy completing projects for my family and friends. Thanks again Mary for the opportunity to enter the give-aways each day. It’s fun to log on each day to see what is next.
I think I would use the linen for several smaller projects. I have a habit of wanting to start something new and will put the larger project aside to start another one. So I think I will keep to smaller projects this year therefore completing more, I hope.
I think I would want to save it for a fairly substantial project, perhaps using silk and gold threads, I would feel that I was ‘wasting’ it if I used if for small experimental pieces. I have no experience of this quality linen and have wondered what it was like to work on especially after reading about your projects. It would be lovely to have a chance to use some.
Loving all these offers Mary – you have worked really hard to get them all together, thanks.
I would definitely parse the supplies out into as many small projects as possible. I would look for some technical projects that I could hone my technique or learn new ones with. Each would be a treasure completed with these fine materials.
Thanx,
JJ
it depends on how large a piece we are talking.
i have a largish piece i have been wanting to do. but when you say generous cut i get the idea i might have some left over for some small medallion type pieces. i love the silks too. i enjoy working with linen. usually when making clothing for myself i choose linen also.
As a novice embroiderer, I’m sure I’d use the materials for several small projects. You make doing such work enticing.
What a simply marvelous prize, I would really love to win this. I love to make up designs and then sew them, so this would be a great gift for me. Thanks, and Happy New Year…
I would need to do a small sample work first, to get the feel for such wonderful materials.
That being said, I am always one to throw myself into things headlong… When I married my husband I suddenly acquired a number of wonderful people as relatives. One of them built custom bird houses. Just before he passed away, he was working on a group of birdhouses that resembled old storefronts that used to line the main street of our town. I would like to recreate that in embroidery, in memory of my in-law and friend.
For me it would be many small projects.
Aloha Mary,
First off, I have to say I loved it that you used the word “plump” to describe the thread of the linen. The variance in warp/weft of cheap linen is so obvious.
An all over white on white would be interesting to do- subtle but elegant. Black on white -great for sharp contrast. Stitch selection would have to be given some thought. I never quite realized just how much till you did your fish.
Jacquelin ihsan
Dear Marymentor:
I would definitely streeeeeetch 😀 these things out. I have learned to quash my first impulses to just “dig in and go wild”. But I would definitely do ALL the reading, then calmly (for me ?….calmly ?….:-D approach the materials slowly and methodically. So I can really learn everything that’s being offered to me. All of the 12 Day Gifts are so very appropo Mary. Thanks for taking the time and energy to do this. Szczesliwego Nowego Roku ! ! From Polish Hill, Pittsburgh, PA. and yes…it’s Happy New Year in Polish. 😀
Judy in Pittsburgh ! Thanks again ! Looking forward to another year with you 😀
I would do several smaller projects so I can familiarise myself with everything and I would savour every moment using such scrummy materials. xxx
For me I would use them in a few smaller projects.
Oh my goodness, this would be a precious treasure! I can see many projects with this giveaway, one extra special project would be a wedding sampler for my daughter this year. I would love to simply feel, touch and admire these beautiful pieces. Desiree from Gresham, Oregon
I would jump right in and try everything in one big project!
One large project, definitely. I have a big anniversary coming up and I would love to be able to use such lovely materials…
I would love to use all the linen for one big ambitious project.
With all the different websites you’ve given, it is nice to put them together. The yarns, the linens, the designs.
Barbara Mamlet
I always do a lot of little projets to give to my friends, but now I want to do a big one for myself where I can use different materials.
Hi Mary,
Thank you and Hedgehog Handworks for offering this give away… fantastic prize!
I would do lots of little projects, I love little things! 🙂
Wow, I cannot resist giving a try in this giveaway – the prize is just heavenly. I would never split it, so for me it is one project, my personal “masterpiece”. Thank you, Mary, for a chance to win.
I would probable do a few different small pieces.
Thank you!
Camille VF
I think several projects. I had my whitework box out this weekend, looking at wips and ufos and materials. Right now I’m thinking whitework. Perhaps something larger than my usual. I do also love blackwork and would like to try something traditional with the thread selection in the prize.
Hi Mary, What a treasure today’s giveaway is! I’d definitely be using the linen and silk for some smaller projects. After “the tablecloth that nearly killed me” it will be a while before I attempt a large project again – for my sanity and for the sake of my family who has to live with me!
Thank you, Mary and Joady,
What a wonderful give away; linen, nice linen, I would probably use it for several different projects.
Best,
Maria VF
I would love to stitch a large project!
Thanks 🙂
oh, what magnificent sets. And what a difficult choice. Part of me wants to savour this in many tiny projects. I can see next year’s Christmas presents already lining up in my mind. The advantage of that is that I could start up stitching right away! I need to finish my blackwork project before I start another big project.
On the other hand.. I can see it framed up already.. You’ve made me consider buying the millennium frame and my birthday is coming up in March. Comining a new frame and new, gorgeous linnen and threads might be the way to set up something extra ordinary. Perhaps that St. Joseph votive that I have wanted to make.
That is a tough decision – probably one large project. Something that would last so I could really enjoy the material and fibres and really explore their use.
Heather from British Columbia, Canada
Wow!! I think I would plan one big special project (but I would hope to have some leftovers for a few tiny gift projects too … :))
What a wonderful set, thank you so much Mary, Hedgehog Supplies and Access Commodities. But what a decision to make. If I won the white set I would probably do several smaller pieces in different whitework styles but the black set would be one major piece, using lots of blackwork shading and textures.
Well this would lend itself beautifully to some ‘Spanishwork’ (blackwork as it’s commonly known) why use just black if you where spoiled with these beautiful threads and fabric ?
I think I would use them in a few smaller projects so I could see which ones I enjoy working with the most.
In a recent season of unexpected sad news for my friends, last night I embroidered the Australian poet words, “Two things stand like stone, kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.” These threads & fine linen you generously offer may yield a stitched but happy memorial since I’ve created whimsical Day of the Dead imagery in cutwork techniques that echoed papel picado. Christine in San Francisco
hmmm, since im just starting out i think i would go with smaller projects to ‘get my feet wet’ so to speak. but the smaller projects would lead up to one huge one, like the one my son just found in a thrift store, its a needlepoint of a sailing ship, that was completed on july 19, 1912! that proves that if you use quality materials it will last a lifetime….. or more!
Hello Mary!
I’ld like to try an all-out dream project. Yes, Im crazy, but this year will be THE CHALLENGE’S YEAR ! I’ld start quilting, gold embroidery and really beautiful embroidery. Your today present is actually the one I nead to dare I start.
Now, that’s a fabulous prize, these would be absolutely great for my Talliaferro project. 3 more days and counting for the order to be completed, as soon as I make up my mind which lovely design I will get.
I would drag out my projects as long as possible and make as many different things as I could. I used to make my birthday cake last as long as I could when I was a child – I wanted to savor it forever. Sewing materials are the same way for me. The good stuff is hard to come by, so I make it last.
Hi Mary,
What an absolutely awesome treasure. I love beautiful linen and threads and working with these would not be an activity to be undertaken lightly – one does not just cut up linen of this quality into little projects unless they are very special. I think that, after a lot of searching, I would undertake a single large project to become an heirloom.
Thank you
Jenny
Probably many! I can never stick to just one project anyways 🙂
Thanks!
Many projects, almost definitely! In fact, the dreaming and planning of all those projects might take more time than each project to complete.
I would use them in several projects mainly because I am a beginner and don’t have access to lessons/much variety of quality supplies. I learn mainly from books and online sites and want to try working on linen. I rely on Needle ‘n Thread for ideas and references to good places to obtain supplies. My first project would be a creative piece that I promised my daughter for her birthday. I promised that I would start her project as soon as I finished making a little pin cushion for myself. She has taken the first two that I have made and has them exhibited on her bookshelf. I just finished my third pin cushion and will not show it to her until I finish her project :).
where was this information when I started my table cloth for my elderly mom???? I love that you are offering this, as I knew there should be a ‘beginner’ quality, and a ‘this is what you want when you want the best stuff’ quality. But I had no idea what that would be or where to get it! Thanks for the info and could you please do an article on quality embroidery threads as well? debb h
Oh Mary, these are wonderful. I would use them in many small projects to make the enjoyment of using them last longer! Thanks for all your quality give aways.
This linen looks absolutely lovely. I would like the chance to try some and can see that I would use it for many projects.
I would love to put it all into one big project.
Janiceb
I guess I would use them all in one or two projects, maybe a blackwork and a Schwalmer piece.
Dear Mary,
Yes! Yes! I want this, also. (I’m not trying for all the gifts so as not to be greedy, but this is precious!) I would use them in small projects so that I could savor them slowly, and so that more people would enjoy the fruit of my labor and the beauty of the materials.
Thank you,
Doris HH
What a wonderful opportunity to receive some really beautiful materials! I would probably find myself seeking out an extraordinary project that demands excellence in materials. With good fortune, there may be enough materials left for some smaller, but still worthy, projects.
Hi Mary-
Lovely! I’ve never seen such wonderful linen, so I’m sure I would use a tiny bit of it to squeeze in as much experimenting as I could and save the rest for a “real” project of some kind–probably several small ones. Something precious.
Thank you….Cindy
This is the best Christmas season! I feel sorry for those who thought Christmas was over on the 25th!
I have one big project that I can use this wonderful gift for. But the threads will find there way into many, many projects.
Sharon C. Bethel, CT
My son has asked me to design a wedding sampler for him and these materials seem like the perfect place to start. Although depending on how big yhr linens, I might have some left over to play with!
I think I would savor it and use it in several projects.
Melisa Bakos in Saskatchewan
If I were to win one of the give-aways I would savor them by planning many smaller projects. Beautiful monogrammed sachets, pin cushions, scissors fobs. The thought of the collection gives me goose bumps. I love stitcthing with silk on great linen!
Happy Ninth Day of Christmas Mary,
What a beautiful give away!
I think i would do both, Make a project with the gift given (especially i I
had a great idea or pattern) then I would certainly use the remaining threads for other projects. A monochromatic color scheme with either of the packages would be beautiful. Or, since you said it was a generous cut of fabric, i could cut it and make two projects. Lots of options. Your right about HedgeHOg Handiworks, due to your inspiration, I have ordered from them and they were very service oriented with great products.
Have a great day,
Chris
I would most definitely stretch them out and use them for some small projects, one being a sampler to hone my skills as a fairly ne embroiderer. I had no idea where to look for the linens so thank you for that information:) I would also like to try some of the designs in my numerous needlework books and the materials would help with that. Thank you so much for all you are doing with these giveaways and making it so fun to actually Think about what we would do with what you offer. Pam from Eugene OR.
If I were so blessed to win the white selection, I would do a sampler white on white. I am reminded of my Grandmother’s beautiful white on white linen Victorian items she made for her hope chest in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s.
I had to think about this one quite a bit. I’m a fan of very ambitious BAPs, but in the end I think I’d make a bunch of small projects with this. Maybe use some of it for a lesson on biscornu for my embroiderer’s guild, and the rest to practice using different weights of thread to achieve textural effects.
Oh – the fabric and threads are to dye for!! There is no way I would attempt one single project on that fabric — I would try to get several smaller projects and possibly some “smalls” to try to spread it around as much as possible. It is glorious!!!!
I would use it for small projects.
What joy! I’d begin with small, experimental projects and build up to larger, but not huge, ones. I’d definitely want to ‘show and tell’ the story of how the pieces came to bet.
Definitely small projects for me because I haven’t tackled silk yet. Just getting back into embroidery after a 30 year hiatus. But I am loving every minute of it! I especially love reading your newsletters Mary. They are ever so helpful in a myriad of ways. Thanks, kim
I would share these fabulous supplies with my three daughters. We all love surface embroidery and are at varying levels of talent. But, like you say, using fine materials allows all of us to be proud of our efforts. Thank you from my daughters and myself for the opportunity to win these great supplies.
I think I would have to create one large heirloom project that uses a variety of stitches, techniques and threads. It would really be worth the effort and something to leave to my ancestors.
I can tell you I would not waste an inch of the fabric. I would do a couple of medium projects and lots of smalls. I do my own finishing and can see a set of smalls to match the medium pieces.
I sure would love to win those lovely threads.
Hello,
I would complete a lot of little projects–that way I could see something through to the end. Big projects have a way of getting away from me.
Thanks again for the opportunity to win such great products!
Diana in Siuox Falls
I would use the black threads on many different smaller projects but the white ones seem to call for one big project. Why would that be?
I have been trying to find a resource for good fabrics to use for my needle work. This would be a wonderful gift. I like to do smaller projects because I actually can find time to finish those. So I would use the fabric and threads to create many treasures to give as gifts. Thank you for yet another great give-a-way.
I would use the fabric and threads on multiple projects. I have a number on my wish list and would love to make some needlework accessories using a variety of threads and techniques
What a wonderful post! Even without the giveaway, the information about the fabrics is just marvelous. Finding good fabric for surface embroidery has been one of the things holding me back. What would I do with such a bounty? It would definitely be split among smalls–either experimental/learning pieces, or small bits of period costume–blackwork coifs or cuffs, for instance. I’m working with my first piece of Legacy linen (34 count for counted work) right now–it *is* lovely stuff!
Hi Mary – Happy Ninth Day of Christmas!!
One project! Just the right project … the perfect project … the project that I’ve dreamed of doing! Unfortunately, I’ve been dreaming of several projects, so I’d just savor the items for a while until I could choose the right project … the perfect project … I think I just said that! Anyway, I would love just holding on to them for a while, too. It’s fun to just browse through my stash of fabric and fibers. It gives me such a lift.
Thanks, Mary! 🙂
Probably would do more than one project, but one never knows for sure until fabric and threads are in hand speaking of what they want to be. 🙂
I think that I would want to do a few smaller projects to learn how to handle silk threads, and then a larger (medium sized?) project to show off the materials and what I’ve learned.
I would love to try these beautiful materials and threads, therefore, I would like to do several smaller projects. I used to visit a fantastic little shop that sold everything you could possibly need for embroidery, counted cross stitch etc. The quality of the linens, sold on the roll, were the best quality you could ever wish for, so for many years I was spoilt for choice. I was so upset when the shop closed and I have had to look elsewhere, even when I go abroad on holiday I never fail to find a shop and buy linen. To try your favourite material would be a pleasure! Thanks again Mary for another fantastic opportunity.
One large, luxurious project! Whitework with the white threads, or a chessboard with the dark threads. Or something else entirely. What a lovely thing to daydream about. Thank you for another lovely giveaway.
I would use it for small treasures. Having just put my tree away for another year, I’d like to think I would share the wealth by making special ornaments to give to extra special sewing friends and family.
Dear Mary
How scrumptious are those thread and the Linen -well!!!!
I would certainly be in for a stitch-a-thon. I am 60 with good eyesight at the moment and you never know what is around the corner. One thing is certain I would NOT leave any around for friends to fight over when I go. Besides thread has to be used when its fresh doesn’t it? At least my other half believes me. lol
Cheers

Undoubtedly a stitchfest. I would find using these materials in one project a challenge, and my, how I do love a challenge.
I have one large project in mind and would love to have these materials to use! Thank you for the opportunity. I visit your site very often and have learned a tremendous amount from you. Even made my own needlebook, inspired by yours!
Renee Wheeler

How about small, but all-out projects? I’ve been really wanting to embroider some palls, which would be perfect with the white set!
I would play around with several smaller projects and use the materials to explore stitches I don’t usually do.
I’m not sure if I would do one big project or several small ones. I do quite a lot of big projects, so that is certainly on the cards. I would have to see what inspiration strikes when/if the materials reach my hands.
As I am a beginner I would probably divide the fabric and threads into smaller portions.
Dear Mary,
Thank you for introducing us to these products! Whether or not I win today’s give away, I will, most assuredly find these products and purchase them on my own! However, if I did win them in the give away I would use them for several smaller projects. I would use them to make palls for the priests to use at Mass!
In gratitude, Mary of the Prairie
Hi Mary,
Had a little trouble leaving a comment today…file not found issue. But, I did find the right spot. I would just love to try these linens, they look so luxurious. Would probably cut them into small workable projects as I don’t really have any large ones to do right now. I know that sounds terrible but sometimes small is good. Would like the white threads but not sure what I would do with the dark ones…maybe let you keep them for another give away. Thanks, Sheila K. from CA
I would most likely use these amazing materials, or ones like them, in one big, beautiful project. I’d plan out a big project to give such good quality fabric and threads the most impact.
I’d wait and plan and think of the perfect project and the perfect place to hang or place it in my house! I enjoy the planning almost as much as the stitching!
I would do small projects with these beautiful threads that would be appealing and then do some larger works
I hate being limited to two choices – How about a couple small projects to warm up and get used to the materials, and then a medium one?
I think I would use these beautiful threads and cloth for a number of smaller projects. I have recently had the urge to try cross stitch which I haven’t done since a teenager. These threads and linen would definitely inspire me to get started!
I would use them in multiple projects.
Thank you for pointing them out as an online source. I am lucky to live close to Nordic Needle in Fargo, ND, so that is my go-to supplier locally. I am always looking for an online one for hard to find items.
Oh my, Mary, this is like a huge embroidery orge! I already have the creative juices going, and I would use them in one gorgeous project.
Thank you Mary, Hedgehog Handworks and Access Commodities!
Many, many projects! I’m one of those people whose eyes are bigger than her stomach, shall we say… I always have so many things in-progress that I never get bored. Frustrated, and overly busy (when I end up with too many gifting deadlines ahead of me), but never bored! 🙂
These silk threads wouldn’t be something I’d be willing to mix with too many other types of threads (especially since I can’t afford many materials that are on par with silk), but I think I’d save materials this nice for smaller projects so that I could use them as many times as possible!
Mary!
This is such a special give away! Not being able to find suitable materials locally has been one reason I’ve put off being serious about improving my embroidery skills. I’ve looked at some of the sites you’ve told us about, but when I saw the prices I thought it would be a waste to put my beginner stitches on such lovely fabrics. But, your insight about choosing the best possible materials makes great sense. Thank you for your encouragement!!
I would try my hand with 2 or 3 smaller projects, hoping to get better with each one.
I think several smaller projects would be in order mainly so that I could learn a few techniques. Both gorgeous giveaways, thank you!
Hi, M.C.,
I am learning to make church vestments, and if I won this nice linen and the white thread, I would use them to make chalice palls. I would also use one of your designs for the embroidery. Thanks!
Lanna
Mary, You have hit my absolute passion (some call it obsession) with fabric & thread for counted and surface stitchery. So many possibilities come to mind for a complete project of tablecloth or runner and leaving behind the Perle threads for this stitching I am loving my new journey of discovery on the Au Vera Soie silk thread road. Thank you from “Downunder” for such a wonderful opportunity to try your favourites!
Hi Mary,
Drool- that is all I can say!! I LOVE these unbelievable linens and threads. I would tackle something small and savor every moment. What a thrill this prize would be!
Thank you so much for the opportunity!
Peg F. in NJ
Thank you for a great give away .. I have ordered from Hedgehow Handiworks and they are just great. I would probably try several projects rather then just one.
I was rather late in coming to appreciate linen-until I was exposed to Legacy Linen. The teachers in 3 seminar classes used Legacy linen in their kits and I fell in love with it. No more “cheeseclothy” linen. Would love to try the various silk threads in the kit. Thanks Mary.
Hi Mary, I have been reading your daily comments for over a year now and really enjoy every word. I am just starting to embroidery and so I would start with the smaller projects first. At my granddaughters 12th birthday party I had 10 girls making pre made bookmarks using a pattern I saw on your site. I taught them the outline stitch from one of your how-to video’s. They really did enjoy it and worked very hard on them. Maybe I have sparked some budding artists. Keep up your wonderful videos, tutorials and newsletters. I really enjoy them all. Dede
It is a beautiful Give-Away. With those fabric or threads, If I win white threads I think about an incrustation project or if threads are black, I think about a Blackwork project with different threads size.
Thank you very much Mary,
Nicole Gelinas Laval Quebec
If I was fortunate enough to win this set of whites and the fabrics it would all be used as one project for my whitework project.
The black set would make a gorgeous blackwork sampler and or used in my crazy quiltng and hand jewellery.
Wherever the occasion fits, I would use the thread. The linen is a terrific giveaway too. This has been so much fun tuning in every day. It is like leading up to Christmas (gift part).
Miss Lorraine
I am way too thrifty sometimes, so I would definitely break it up and stretch it out as far as it would go. I need to chancge that – I always come back from a trip with a few small trinkets, but I know I should get one bigger statement piece. New Years Resolution, maybe??? Thanks for the great giveaway opportunities. Even if I don’t win, I have enjoyed the inspiration and wishful thinking!
Oh Goodness! What a dilemma. However, I am very soon to become a Great Aunt, so I think perhaps I shall be embarking upon a commemorative or perhaps even a Christening piece.
May I say Mary you have been truly inspirational and I have just recently finished my first embroidery project, an ebook cover for my daughter Holly. I shall attempt to put a photo on the gallery. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills with us all.
I would love to try out either one of these collections and make several projects. The farics and threads would be just luxurious to work with.
What beautiful threads! Thanks for the chance to win!
Hi, if I was lucky enough to win one of these, it would definitely be a number of little projects, not sure if I have the confidence to do one big project. I’d just love to experiment with the fabric and threads. And you are so right about the quality of materials, I’ve always tried to find out, and use the best in my projects, you put so much time into this beautiful hobby, it would be sad to use inferior products, we are so lucky to have your advice. Thank you.
I think one huge dream project.
I have worked on linen fpr a lot of projects but, never finer than 40 count, so this 48 count would be a challange. I have also used Au Ver a Soie often….all their threads are lovely. Thank you, Mary and all the donators for a great chance to win these lovely products. Jean Lee Beck
I would use one big piece of fabric and stitch a giant black work family tree, listing as many ancestors as possible in different threads for maternal and paternal lines divided and then maybe changing for each generation such possibilities. Good luck to everyone and just think of all the projects Mary is inspiring round the globe. I love our hobby and it is nice to think of so many like-minded enthusiasts enjoying it just as much.
A lot of small projects of course :)) I use silk only in smalls. thank you for one more beautifull giveaway.
I definitely think I’d split the materials between smaller projects. I’d have to have a really good idea for a big project before starting; I’m not confident enough to just explore.
I would love to finish several small projects to give away, both Whitework and blackwork. We lost our local shop that sold high-quality products, and am always ready to try new things and new materials!
Hi Mary,
I think I would “split the difference”. I might start by trying some smaller things to see what the fabric and threads are like – but then maybe attempt a bigger piece. I always seem to have more ideas than time – but its fun to dream! Thanks so much for all you do!
Janice
Many projects! Quicker sense of accomplishment and they travel better while away for work!
I would split it, but not for experimental projects. What I would go for would be a couple of smaller but high standard (well, as much as I am able to at this point anyway) projects. I love doing little projects and then turning them into presents for my friends. About a year ago I tried using wool fabric for the first time and never looked back. I did some work on linen as well, though I never used quite such a fine weave.
Full-sized all-out dream project for me! Whether white or black threads were to be used, I can imagine some lovely tablecloth (even if very small one).
I’m not sure I wouldn’t just sit and look at these luscious treats! I imagine I would spend days coming up with the just the right tiny projects to feature these beauties.
I wish I could say one big project, but then I’d see another pattern that I’d want to start; or another that would be more interesting to work on; or one that would need just that special touch… No, I think I’d use everything very sparingly, drawing out the fun, and the bragging!
I would savor!
I’m pretty sure it would have to be smaller projects, but what a pleasure it would be to work with such beautiful materials!
oh my! Legacy Linen! I always really really wanted some because of your descriptions, but never been able to justify the cost.
I’d use the Legacy for goldwork and silk projects – how ever many would fit onto the cut.
I’d use the black ensemble for various projects as I came across the need. Outlining sprints to mind immediately. I wouldn’t use the White ensemble – I very rarely use white at all and if I do, it’s usually in a slight tint to work with a pale shade, rather than pure white. Unless I have a specific reason for wanting pure white, of course, for a flower middle or something
🙂
Brilliant give-aways, Mary. Thankyou!
I would make a whole project of really fine work. Something to sit back and admire once I was finished.
Maybe a gorgeous pillow that would take pride of place in my lounge.
I would try to use them in a large project. I like to jump in with both feet and if (when) I make mistakes I say it has added character to the piece and hopefully to me as well.
I have recently been looking at linens, especially the black and white. If I was lucky I would like to do little test samplers of various stitches and designs to see how the linen reacts. Never used the 48 count in linen but it would be good to see how detailed I could do faces, and other petite point subjects. Sometimes the features get lost or blurred. Also an opportunity to try the various threads at the same time. What you can do with them, how they perform. I think it would be a good education tool.
Apart from all the wish list it looks lovely and whatever I did win would be great as all the products are beautiful. Thank you Hedgehog Handworks and Access Commodities and of course you Mary for the wonderful idea of 12 days.
I would do a larger project and incorporate as many threads as I can. I have worked with silks that I brought from China but I have never worked with these wonderful silks. What a treat it would be to research and do project with either the white or the black gorgious array of threads. Ana-Maria K
Definitely one large project. The linens are beautiful and so are the threads. Thanks to both Hedgehoghandworks and yourself for offering another wonderful gift to us.
My dream is to make a quilt top with embroidered squares. I would be so excited to use these luxurious materials!
I am so glad that I have found your website. It is helping me be more creative! Thanks for all the helpful tips and videos.
I can only image the many small projects one could enjoy with these supplies.
I look forward to your email each day.
I think with items of such quality I would have to use them in one project and then savour the “leftovers” by using them here and there in other projects.
I love small projects, so unless a big piece called out to me, I’d probably stretch the materials out on several little things. Isn’t it a treat to be able to use quality threads and fabrics? When we invest our time and energy into our art, it’s good to invest in the best materials too.
Nancy in Newport
I would go BIG! Make some large and divine piece to adorn my lovely home. A piece that would take centre stage and capture the attention of all who enter.
This is a hard question. My first thought was to use them in one large project. Then I thought several nice projects with all the lovely threads would be nice. They would have the same theme (holiday, seasons).
Patricia
I would love to be able to do several smaller projects with the beautiful linen that you have described and silks to drool over. It felt like you were in my home personally describing it to me! I could do 4 personal projects to give to my grandaughters to remember me by one day.
Wow! Those silk threads are amazing and hard to find just anywhere. It’s a long drive to my nearest supplier in Alameda, California. Silk is my very fav thread to stitch with and I’d be able to use those, if I won them, in the many projects I always have in progress. Hopin’ Hopin’ Hopin’ I’m lucky!
This looks like wonderful stash to play with!
So beautiful! I would love tomake small items..probably Christmas tree ornaments as heirloom gifts for family…the stuff that dreams are made of…
Hmmm?…One or many? I just dont know, but the temptation to use the fabric to create a series of items, like the contents of the ‘Home Sweet Home’ project from Country Bumpkiin comes to mind. On the other hand, I keep thinking of an heirloom quality garment. In any case, this is a lovely give away, and thanks for the link to yet another terrific site!
What a treasure of a prize! I’m not sure what I would do with it. I think I would hold it, bend it, scrunch it, listen to it. Then I would do what it tells me to do. Lovely lovely prize.
Oh! I have so many project ideas in my head that I would spread out the goodies!
I discovered the joy of working on good quality linen after I ordered a pair of corporals from Watts of London after reading your piece on the cope at the Royal Wedding. Amazing linen to touch and work on, the finished corporals graced the altar at the wedding of my friend’s daughter. Now, I want to try something new, and the possibilities are spinning through my head. Adults rarely have moments of pure excitement like a child at Christmas, but your give aways come close — thanks
I would use the linen in several smaller projects to get used to the silk threads, like Anne (Canada). Although I’ve been meaning to start a more medium sized project in whitework. Hmmmm…..Thanks for the opportunity to dream with this giveaway.
Many projects would come from this cloth. I would even share it with others so we could
experience this together.
Connie
Yes, please, yes, please. I would need to start with something small and then progress to larger works. My experience with such high quality materials is limited. A little table mat with some bullions, maybe some drawn thread borders for starters. Progress to a runner for a chest of drawers. Something dainty for my sister. I would need to learn how to use the darker threads. Blackwork has never been a strength, well not yet. Years and years or pleasure for someone. Oh, let it be me.
Ooooh! Gorgeous linen. I love linen, and never stitch on anything else, if I can. I think I would use these supplies on smaller projects; I am thinking of doing some smaller projects for our church. That would be a first for me.
Jane
Hi Mary,
When you say ”It is the finest embroidery linen available today,”and it works well for anything from free-style surface work to cutwork to whitework to goldwork’, I can already see what projects I would do on them! I think I would start off with whitework! Though I am not sure of how much material you are giving, I can say that if possible I would split the materials for smaller projects. How many projects would depend on size of material and size of the first project!
Hi Mary
I am planning a blackwork nightcap with goldwork stitches. This giveaway would be the perfect beginning for it.
Thanks for doing this.
Yummy!
I would be pretty tempted to design a “spot sampler” that would enable each fiber to be featured in a stitch that really shows off its beauty.
Of course it’s possible that a little linen could be trimmed off the side and used for a coordinating pincushion and scissor fob…
Actually, the possibilities for this beautiful collection really are endless!
I would have to say one large project. Thanks for the great giveaways!
What a sonderful opportunity it would be to try some stitching on such luxurious fabric and with such gorgeous threads!
Would not know myself!
Pam Rae
I would likely do many projects. I love working with good materials and I especially like silk threads. I’m working on a blackwork project right now in stranded cotton but I wished I’d used silk thread. I’ve never tried such high count linen and I’m afraid if I did, I wouldn’t look back. But that’s okay! Tina from Melbourne.
I would cut the fabric in half and do a blackwork and a whitework project as i’ve seen some very beautiful patterns in both. At the moment I’m using just cotton fabrics until I’m proficient with all the embroidery stitches which i hope won’t take forever, I think it would be a pleasure to use top quality linen instead of cotton I won’t know myself when embroidering with it.
Carolh
When I first saw the Ensemble de Soie, I was thinking one big project. But now I think I’d savour the threads and spread them out over various smaller projects. But then again maybe I’ll think of a big project that could use all the threads and fabric. Decisions, decisions.
Ooooo, I think I would keep looking at it and feeling it not knowing where to start or what to do. I usually jump right in with something complicated but would probably learn to use silk on small projects.
I would definately try several smaller projects just to get the feel of the threads and to enjoy the beautiful linen.
i think a few smaller projects would be more up my alley. Maybe something to share with moms and sisters to share the love. They are beautiful materials and look absolutely wonderful to work with. Thank you for this glorious gift mary.
I like small projects ny wife large items
Would love to win such a great gift!! I would make small projects to see what a variety I could enjoy making if I am the winner of this fantastic prize!
What options! I have always thought deeply about the postings you have made about some very fine materials out there and keep wanting to try to “up the ante” so to speak, when it comes to the materials I use. I think I would do a little testing out, of both linen and thread, and then create some large dedicated project to honor the beauty and quality of the materials.
Once in hand and giving them a try, I’m sure I will never be able to “go back” to the lesser quality that I sometimes have to settle for.
Once again, thank you so much Mary for offering these amazing giveaways.
arlene c in NJ
I would definitely spread the wealth among several projects!
JoanMin would use the linen and silk thread for many small projects.
Aren’t the 12 days of Christmas a delight? Today’s give away just makes me long to touch those fabrics …. and the threads-oh what bliss. Special, well thought out projects for such riches as these.
I would split up this wonderful giveaway to use on several projects so I can them longer!
I would want to do smaller projects since I don’t really know how to use the specialty threads. Smaller projects would help me learn and also lessen the chance of a major mess up and keep materials from being wasted.
I think I would go for a large project. With such luscious silk threads—-it would be glorious. Thanks for this wonderful give away
Many small projects rather than one large project. That is in part due to the fact that I would probably never finish a large project. Short attention span here! I like having the instant gratification that completing a small project gives me. I would enjoy seeing all the finished items laid out around me. 🙂
Thank you for the chance to win!
How wonderful! I think I would have to enjoy these beautiful supplies on one amazing project although there would be a temptation to savor them. The opportunity may not ever again present itself to have so many lovely supplies at one time!
I would love to use this fabric to make the Home Sweet Home” project by Caroline Pearce that you reviewed, to pass on to my granddaughter.
If I were to win this prize I would break the linen down into smaller sizes so that I could learn new techniques. Thank you for this lovely giveaway opportunity.
I would probably use the materials for small projects for each of my children as heirlooms. They are so beautiful.
Dear Mary,
I am a small-project kind of person. But for this giveaway, I would use them for projects that utilize the many types of the thread. This will create dimension and make the piece more interesting.
Hi Mary,
The awful truth about me is that even if I put this special pack of fibers aside to plan one big project using all of them….I’d steal from it! How do I know this? Because a few months ago I purchased one of the Historic 17th century Plimoth Jacket silk thread palettes as a special keepsake to remember working on the jacket. Today I stole 3 spools of floss from it for the shawl I’m making right now. I justified it by promising myself I’d order replacements for them tomorrow : )
I would probably use these materials over several smaller projects 🙂
With such nice supplies, I would have to do several smaller projects. Thanks for the fantastic giveaways.
What a lovely package of beautiful fabric and threads:) I would definitely spread the materials out and make as many smaller projects as I could. I’ve never worked with silk thread before,so I would definitely want to practice first.
Natasha from CT
Many little projects. I love to work on several small projects at one time. These threads and fabrics are inspiring!
Happy 9th Day of Christmas. When I was in Jr. High School, I started cross-stitching and surface embroidery on kitchen towels and pillow cases. After college, I took a class at a Stitchery shop and learned how to stitch on linen with ‘fine’ threads. Since stitching is my passion, you can only imagine how pleased I would be to have the silk threads and linen. I love to stitch large, heirloom pieces (the last one took me nine months to complete) so I imagine I would go looking for that perfect piece for this linen and silk threads. How VERY exciting!!! Missy Palmer, Grand Junction, CO
Mary, you have surpassed all others. I cannot purchase this linen within a 100 mile radius so I would be delighted to receive this prize so I can learn what it is like to be able to order it.
I would like to learn how to with different threads and patterns.
Thank you.

Oh, I definitely like to “go big.” Because today’s answer was so uncomplicated, I’d like to take advantage of the extra space to say how very much I have enjoyed this contest. Win or lose, I loved analyzing my needlework preferences in order to answer the questions. The process has been self-revelatory and stimulated happy recollections. Thanks for this experience.
What a nice opportunity to immerse myself in projects again! I have just recently discovered the wonderful world of craft blogs, and I am so inspired! I would likely work on several small projects, which would be easier to take along on travels. Thanks for sharing your insights and for giving us a chance to win these treasures.
I would use this for whitework or try my hand at Schwalm embroidery. if I used this on one or more projects would depend on how much I would need for the sampler. Ideally I would want to stretch the gift so I can enjoy it more than one project.
Carmen
Wow! I don’t have one big project in mind. I would want to spend a lot of time with them, so lots of little projects.
If I were so lucky to win the white group, I definitely would do one project of white on white in sampler style. I just envision this to be an artful piece much like some of my grandmother’s white on white linen work of the late 1800’s.
The first thing I would do with these is play with the threads in the margin of the linen so see how they work together and then I would start making plans on how to use them in a project together.
I am so looking forward to winning this one! What a great give-away!
Oh boy. I have a big, fat, hairy, all-out dream project that will cost me scads of money and probably take me the rest of my life. It’s surprised and delighted me ever since I started it. I’ve met the neatest people by using my free, *hobby* time, pursuing the skills to do it. My project is made up of many, many smaller pieces for a sum total project. Through trial and error, I’m learning that good materials make *all* the difference. I especially like the linen, though I’ve got to tell you that I winced when I went to Hedgehog to price it out to get some for my project. Good linen is as good as gold. However, having recently sewn with some 45 count linen, versus a cheaper and more easily obtainable 25 count linen, there is a world of difference. The bigger question for me is “Am I good enough yet, to warrant the material investment?” The next question is, “Do I buy a piece of linen for each section, one at a time, or do I save up and buy all that I need now so that I don’t end up with a bunch of mis-matched pieces. That could take me a few years if I try to buy the linen all at once.
Blackwork is where my love of embroidery re-started (in 2008) when I decided I wanted to design and sew some blackwork embellishments on my wedding outfit. I would love to take on a large blackwork project with such a beautiful array of threads, I have a dream of gorgeous heavy bed hangings (I live in a very cold house) with piecework, naive scenes and patterning. A fabulous giveaway.
I would probably do several different projects! It is all so pretty!
I’ve got half a dozen or more of the silk thread collections from Hedgehog on my wishlist. They’re gorgeous!
I always have a lot of projects going at once because I have the attention span of a caffeinated gerbil. I can think of a couple works in progress as well as a few pieces I haven’t even started that are just begging for some of those threads!
One large, luxurious project if it is the white package. I love white on white or cream on white pulled work and would be in 7th heaven if I were to be so lucky and win! If I had the black threads, I would do as many of the 12 blackwork patterns by Leon Conrad as possible(they were 1 a month or you could get all 12 in one book) and enjoy in the indulgence the entire time.
I would use this for LOTS of projects. I can see using a piece of the linen as the centerpiece of a crazy quilt block–either by painting or printing a motif or picture on the linen and then embellishing it with the silk threads. WooHoo!! Thanks for offering us the opportunity to possibly enjoy these give-aways for ourselves. XXOOXX
The linen sounds wonderful. i keep telling my husband that if I’m going to spend hours of my time I am going to do it right with the best materials I can find. Isn’t it tragic that our small specialty stores are disappearing. I am thankful to others for sharing their favorite internet sites so that I know where to look for things like fabric. If I had this exceptional linen I would spread it out over several projects for I have several large UFO’s
Materials do matter! “The good stuff” inspires my best stitching technique.
If I were to win this generous giveaway, I would use it for several projects. Maybe something I could share with each of my 5 far-flung nieces (Michigan and Oklahoma) or a series of things that could “hang together” on a wall or in a holiday display for maximum effect.
I’m sure I’d learn as I went, and the ability to finish something — versus the daunting nature of a long project — would keep me going as I enjoyed tangible progress.
Thanks for the chance to work with the best! Hope you are snug and cosy this wintry night.
Hello Mary,
I hope this goes through OK…the first comment had a problem and was thrown back. Anyways, one more time you have brought to us information that we did not know existed and we need!!! It is awesome to finally find out the answer to the question I have had about the perfect material to stitch on. I would probably split the material up into smaller projects, just because I prefer that size these days and it would be fun to experiment wit the material and the silks in different styles of work.
Thank you for the 9th time!!!!
Dottie J.

Oh, Mary, I’m drooling! The gifts keep getting better and better if that’s possible. There’s no question about it, I’d launch into my all-out dream project incorperating most if not all the lovely threads and linen. Thank you, again for the opportunity to win.
Kathleen F
Well that was like going around the Mulberry bush I finally got here. Now down to the 9th day’s prize, like most of the others I would dearly love to win this one, first I would sit and look at the fabric and threads, then probably stroke them, then I know I shall divide the fabric into several projects just to make it last.
Cheers Flora
I would forsure split up and savor amongst many projects since I am just starting embroidery.
Definitely on multiple projects! The most fun thing about embroidery is making gifts for other people! 🙂
I would totally put the linen to good use – I have been hoping to start one of the Helen Stevens projects. Since you have always given this linen high marks it was my choice for the project. If I received the white threads, I could add a nice white work project to the mix. Honestly, I’d have to think harder for a use for the darker threads.
I’d launch into one large dream project! I’m from a small place and dont have access to good quality materials. The thread I use is basic and the closest to linen that I can find is actually a cotton-polyester blend. I have this amazing dream project based on a design that I’ve made, it is a network of squiggles and lines to make a series of stylized waves. I really hope that I stand a chance! I am a young embroider-er and I have taught myself how to do this based on your tutorials. Embroidery isn’t popular with 22 year olds but I want to be really good some day!
Mary,
More wonderful things today. I love good linen and silk. You are correct it does make a big difference in the finished product. Some of these silks I’ve not tried. I’ll have to put them on my never ending list of must haves. Thanks again,Nancy R.
I would use all those darks on one big project – I’ve started something for my husband’s birthday that’s based on a stained glass type drawing – but I would \start it all over again in a heartbeat with these threads!
I would probably split it up between a bunch of smaller projects 🙂
Thank you for this giveaway!! I will use all the goodies in several projects, BUT i will also share some with a friends, so we both can enjoy the GREAT items!!
What a very exciting 9th day of Christmas give away! I purchased Becky Hogg’s Blackwork book, so I would use the thread and material to do a Blackwork Sampler as shown on page 92 of her book. I know that I should not say this…..but oh how I would love to be the winner of this very special gift. Here’s hoping and wishing!
I would use the materials in a number of small projects, to maximize the learning!
I think I would be wrapping the linen in acid free tissue paper and savoring the linen for a while. Deciding on a project small or large would come after much thought for such wonderful fabric and thread.
Rosemary V Australia
Hello, i would do MANY projects. I belong to a craft group at my Church and i would let each lady do a project for our bazaar. Thank you for giving me a chance at winning these beautiful items.
Linda Rohland
I would split the supplies or at least thje fabric into more then one project probably one larger one and two smaller ones. I don’t get to buy such wonderful supplies that often so I think I would try to stretch them to more then one project.
My mom’s birthday is coming up in March – I’d love to make her one big beautiful embroidered gift with such amazing materials!
Shelah
Those fabrics look really yummy! I would probably break it into smaller projects. I tend to lose patience and/or interest if my project is too large. Plus, smaller projects would provide for more extensive fabric fondling. LOL!
I would love to have all these treasures. I can see doing so many projects, it would be hard to choose because each would have to be special.
I would savour the fabric, caressing it with my eyes and fingers. Then I would unravel a little of each thread and stroke it, delighting in the colours – then after a very long time, I would decide…small projects or a large one!
* * * * * = Must Have. I would love to work with this linen ad would probably divide it into several smaller pieces. I make ornaments when I want ro try a new fiber or fabric to geet the hand before diving into a larger project.
Mary,
I would have to divide the the linen and threads and savor and use them for a variety of projects.
Two totally beautiful collections. Linen and silk what more could one wish.

Goodness gracious. I really cannot make decisions like this in advance. If I had to use it right away, I’d probably do small projects, because I’m not very seasoned. I’d hate to start something big and have the quality of it change halfway through. If I could save it though, I’d probably practice on smaller things and then use it all at once in one glorious project. I might use some of the threads for needlelace edging or fillings.
this would definitely be several small projects for my most special friends! I would also share the lovely linen with another friend who loves to work with fabulous materials. this give away would make so many folks happy!! Thank you for the chance to join in on the fun!
I will have to say that I will have to spread the material out as I have never done embroidery. It is one of 2 crafts on my list to learn in 2012.
I would stretch out the materials to make several experimental projects, since i’m new to embroidery- (and) or maybe sew the fabric together to make a quilt. I like doing text, so I can see making something really cool with proverbs on it!
I’ve used Soie d’Alger and just love the feel of it and what it looks like on the fabric. I’ve used a very little Trebizond. I am wanting to use more and more silk and would love to try different silks so I can know which ones to use where.
Difficult choice. One large sampler would be fun, but making up small projects would probably get finished sooner.
Carole Krause
I would probably split the materials up over several smaller projects because, honestly, my attention span isn’t that long. With materials this nice, however, I might think up something bigger…
I have started to dream about and wish to work with silk threads. I have pretty much been a dmc girl and would like to explore other threads and fabrics. Needlework keeps growing as a passion and I am taking opportunities to learn more – more techniques, more about supplies and more serious projects. I think I would have to say that initally, I would probably parcel it out for smaller projects hoping to gain experience before planning a larger project.
If I were to win this wonderful set of linen and threads, I would do a runner or small tablecloth with monograms. I do calligraphy, and I would letter initials onto the linen. Either black or white threads would make beautiful letters and embellishments. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
it will depend how large the fabric is, but I usually like to keep the fabric in one piece and work a large design or may small designs in one, like a mosaic.
thank fro the wonderful giveaway .
I wish I could win.
I would love to make many different projects for gifts.
Oh yes please.
Regards Phillipa in NZ
Mary, first off let me say a huge thank you to organising this and thank you too to the suppliers who are making it possible.
It is a long time since I did anything even remotely close to what these materials demand but my memories are still alive and kicking. I have been thinking about making some placemats and this might be a good starting point. On the other hand, after a decent interval of long looks and loving stroking, I might think of doing something large and fabulous.
I would love to use the linen to replace the linen in a kit I purchased! That linen split and was obviously not worth the time it would take to embroider. I have been trying to find new linen on which to copy the pattern from the kit. I would like to pass the white threads on to someone else who would use them sooner them I would.
I’d never have the patience to do a BIG project. I’d savor them and spread them out over several little things. I love threads and little bits and pieces of goodies like this!
What a wonderful give away. I agree with you that great materials make a great project. I would use these threads in one project. The different textures and sheens of the collection would make a beautiful embroidery.
This would be so exciting to win! I would definately divide it up into as many smaller projects as I could. There are so may great ideas that you have given us. I love the Medallion myself and could see these as gifts.
I’m drooling. Good linen isn’t something you can just walk in and buy at the fabric store. I would probably do many projects, but the main one would have to be some kind of beautiful sampler that I could hang on my wall forever. Thanks for the opportunity!
I would love to win the white linen and threads to embroider the schwalm whitework sampler as featured in the Luzine Happel book “The Art of Schwalm Whitework”. Thank you for the opportunity.
Hi Mary,
I have never had the opportunity to work on really special linen so if I were lucky enough to win I would put it aside and wait until I found the right project to do, and as there are so many beautiful projects around it would probably not sit around to long. Once again, thanks for the beautiful giveaway.
Joan Turrell from Canada
Since I am determined to expand my knowledge of embroidery this year, I wold use these threads in several small projects so I could learn more about them. Until now, I have really only done counted cross stitch with DMC floss, so this gift would certainly give me a good variety of threads to learn about.
I’m still very new to embroidery, so I’m firmly in the smaller project camp – I do want to get to something large and dramatic, but I’d like to get a little better first!
I would very much love to win the lovely fabric and threads. I would probebly use the materials for a couple of small or medium small projects. I have worked with some silk threads and love the look of the threads when stitched. It feels so good when using it as well. GanetB
I think one project and whatever was left then put into my stash.
Arlene
I think for me it would be a medium project and some smaller ones depending on the size of the linen.
One project, or many? Oh, many, definitely! I love a small project that works up in just a few evenings of stitching. Instant gratification for me and happiness for my friends as I give away most of what I make. And linen is my favorite substance in the whole world!
Thanks Mary!
Beautiful fibers and now beautiful fibers and fabric as well.
This truly is a most wonderful celebration.
I can think of many project calling out to this fabric and am intrigued and excited to test drive the threads.
I would love to try some new threads for embroidery work…so far I have used only regular DMC floss
Au Ver a Soie was my first experience in working with silk several years ago. I fell in love with silk. Can’t have too much silk! I would also love to try some of the linen. I have never worked with that count and it is interesting to see that it can be used for cross stitch or surface embroidery. Another project to add to my to do list.
I would be using these lovely giveaway goodies on several different projects, however I’m fairly certain most of these threads would end up on the linen as one of my projects. I too have been thrilled with all my purchases from Hedgehog Handworks – I feel so fortunate to have such a great online source for top quality materials.
Love it! Love it! And Hedgehog IS addicting lol
I would defnitely use them in smaller projects to make them last as long as I can!
I would definitely use the linen on several different projects. I love the black set.
I would use it for many small projects!!!
I could see myself launching into a full-sized, all-out dream project, utilizing all the thread types and all the fabric in one huge stitchfest? I think that if I won this I could become addicted to hand embroidery. I have been reading your blog for a while now and I have been dying to start a project but I have never been able to decide what I want to do, this would be a great starting point for me. 🙂
I would likely use the materials in several small projects. Right now my life is so busy and I don’t have time for larger projects. I also like variety in my work.
I would like to make something grand with that fabric. A one of a kind special project after I’ve pet it for a few days. It just looks so good.
Not to be difficult, but I see myself using them in 2 tiny experimental projects and one medium sized one. LOL I have learned the hard way when I was first starting embroidering, the perils of using a bad ground material. Thanks for all the inspiration.
Lot of little projecits. Stretch it out so it will last. Just have to get back in the grove of embroidery, it’s been a few years.
i ll go for several small projects.
raji from India
The fabric and silk thread look yummy! I haven’t tried many of them before and would have to design a special project to use them on….depending on the colors, it might need to be two or three. But, what a wonderful problem to have….figuring that out!
Oh, what an interesting question. It took me a few minutes to think about which way I’d go, and I think at this point I would use the supplies over several smaller projects. I’ve done a couple of what I consider large projects, and I need a change in pace for now. Ask me in a few months and I may give you a different answer.
If I were to win the fine linen fabric, I would use it to do linen works, specially, to put on religious altars or living room’s small tables. Linen’s embroidery works give a home such a delicate and hommy touch…! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to participate on this Christmas giveaway…!
Celestina
I would split up the projects. I would love to have such a wonderful background to work on!
Anne Westlund in WA State
I would definitely stretch these out to savor for several projects! I’m also probably not skilled enough at creating a design that would use such a variety of thread types/styles. The linen looks beautiful, though!
Dear Mary – It’s a tough call, but I think if I were a lucky one, I would use the silks for many different projects. With so many different types of silk in either white or black color, it might be hard to use them all in one piece. The linen presents a different dilemma and I think I would be likely to use it for just one or two glorious large projects. Cheers, Shirley
Mary each and everyone of your giveaways are awesome and looks like you put in a lot of thought.I would definately use this and do more birds/flowers projects, wow the colors look superb!Thank you thank you for doing this! I would LOVE to win any one of these!
Woweee, what a fantastic ninth day giveaway , I do love working on linen & have done a few projects but this sounds such a great quality would love to give it a go . Would maybe do a few smaller projects as I give most of my work to friends or groups to be raffled for a good cause here in my hometown . Thanks again for your great giveaways . Doreen . [Australia ]
I love small projects right now! And, I’m not sure with such small count linen that I could finish a large piece. Unless, I did free stitching.
Good linen is the only way to go with embroidery, my Grandmother taught me that. I have pieces she did for me about 60 years ago that I use and some she did for my mother who is 92 yrs old that I also use and they are still in excellent condition. I would do smaller projects with the linen to better my skills with silk thread embroidery and also experiment with other threads. I would love to win the white threads as I love white work but either of them would be fantastic to win. It is not always easy to get good linen these days. Thank you for the information on where to get the linen.
Hi Mary,
Everyday I say I’m not going to participate in the draw today…getting too greedy but then can’t help myself. What a lovely array of gifts, each day more lovely!Thank you for letting us participate, for your generosity.
I would definitely go for one big project, the threads are just too rich, especially as a whole ensemble to break up. Maybe if there’s any left over, then a few smaller ones but definitely one big one to start with. Something special that would be treasured for the generations to come!
Melanie
I would use a small piece of it for now. As my embroidery improved, then I would use a larger piece for a more detailed work.
Mary in Oregon
Although I can see this wonderful linen being used for one project, the first thing that came to mind was using the linen and threads in the TAST 2012 to create a stitch sampler (I have wanted to make a long narrow band sampler after seeing some of the antique samplers in Joke Visser’s collection when they were on display in the Handwerken Zonder Grentzen museum in Brede.)
Definitely one fabulous project with such beautiful materials.
After petting the threads for a while, I think I would try to find a few small projects that coordinated to be used in my dining room.
I’ve not had the pleasure or luxury of working with linen fabric or silk threads so I would start with a blackwork sampler or a Jacobean crewel design. I have the tendency to do big projects but with such quality I would definitely start on something small.
I think several small projects, or maybe just horde them in my stash
I would go for a big dream project – either in whitework or blackwork both are on the list – as I have always wanted to stitch Marilyn Manson’s self portrait in a variety of techniques and either of these packs would give a reason to start.
Lovely! I would love to make smaller projects for my kids, heirloom worthy. Whitework sounds inspiring to me!
with these supplies, I would partake in a full scale project to highlight the fabric & threads.
Definitely many small projects. I would have to savour the threads for awhile but I owould love to experiment with some Blackwork
This is such an impressive giveaway! I have to confess that buying my base linen is always the hardest part of planning a project. I recently purchased some medium-quality linen and when I was nearly done with the crewelwork I was doing on it, I put it away. The quality just isn’t good enough, and the piece was a gift for a cherished friend. She deserves the best, so yes, I’ll be starting over someday and redoing it on fine linen. Winning this would be inspirational! Thanks for the opportunity, Mary.
I think I am leaning towards a stitchfest. I’m not sure what I would make, but I know I would have fun looking for a project that would go with these threads.
Many little projects! These threads are too glam to keep all to myself! I would make personalized embroidery crafts for each of my closest friends; in that way we all have a little piece of something we can associate with our “group” :]
I believe I would split them up and only plan one or two smaller projects at a time. I don’t think I have the energy to plan one big project incorporating them all! Of course, I could just go nuts and freewheel one big piece of art just to experiment and have fun. THEN figure out what to do with it–frame it, handbag, soft furnishings… Hmmm, starting to like that idea better!
Silk and linen – the ultimate hand-embroidery combination!!
I want to start on a whitework project soon-ish, inspired by your snowflake…lots of different snowflakes, in different threads and stitches, but all whitework. This would be perfect for that.
I’d definitely split up the supplies into smaller projects to savor and experiment with the materials. I can imagine using the linen in a wedding sampler for a friend.
Hi Mary,
I would go for a BIG project, which I can frame and treasure it…
Regards,
-Viji.
Oohhhhh lovely … One, two, three or more???? I would have to spend much time to find a project/projects worth the gift of the linen and threads.
Thanks Mary
Many projects. I never have just one project on the go so I know I won’t be any different if I were lucky enough to win these beautiful threads and linen. I may even be tempted to try surface embroidery. I have done hardanger and blackwork before and would happily do more.
Ooh, if I were to win either collection, I would be making several small projects – I have a hard time committing to large projects.
Much to the annoyance of my other (better?) half, MANY!!
I have boxes full of kits, supplies, odds-and-ends. My books and magazines are tagged with post-its so I remember what I want to do…
For me there is nothing like the magical feeling of starting a project; the possibilities, changes I could make, lack of errors, clean fresh fabrics and supplies….
As a means to placate my man, I often bury my head in my boxes of supplies and breath the fresh-fabricy, soft-cottony, laundry-powdery-scented air of unused supplies – wonderful!!
I think, therefore, that it is safe to assume that if i won, not only would these supplies be spread over a number of projects, they would be enjoyed, sniffed, fondled, gazed at and smiled at until I can once more get away with starting a new project!!
Oh Mary, you’re so wicked. When I ask cloth stores here for linen samples, they condescendingly ask if I have any teeny idea how expensive and rare they are. And here you are, dangling this fine linen before me, which I don’t even know what it looks or feels like.
Reality bites. Hard. So amidst the jugglery with the job, travel time, daughter, husband, home, house chores and in laws, I think multiple little projects is the best use for this heart-stopping give-away. You said it- surface and silk embroidery, cut/white/black/ gold work. With apologies to Liza Browning,“How much do I love thee? Take a break while I count the many ways.”
Goodness, I am drooling over all these goodies. I think I would work on a series of small projects; a triptych perhaps. I like the idea of three small pieces side by side in frames on the wall.
As I was reading your description of the materials, I could almost feel the fibers in my hands!
I would have to split the supplies into more smaller projects rather than one large one to be able to spread out the enjoyment of using them.
Having worked in a needlework store and framed many pieces for people over the years, I know the importance of using good supplies and what an effect it has on your finished product.
Thank you for the link to the Hedgehog Handworks! We can always use a new, reliable source for supplies.
I think I would divide the material so that pieces would fit comfortably on the Millenium Frame that I have now got, thanks to your review. As a comparative beginner and on the mature side I would probably be daunted by the idea of tackling something large. I have so many ideas in my head about what I would then stitch with the smaller pieces on quality fabric that my hands have never felt – would be a treat. It seems that my numerous nieces treasure items I embroider and make for them so that would be a good use. Thank you.
I would split it up for several smaller projects for me and my granddaughter to have some fun on our sleepovers. Thanks for the generous giveaway!!
Hi Mary,
Hmm, If I were to win this fabric and thread pack I would use them in a few small projects and also a larger one that is a circle of waterlillies design I have had on the back burner for some time now. I would also stock these threads in my store. I am looking to stock different threads in my little embroidery store. Hope you are having a great day
Oh, so many possibilities.
Probably would try a small project first and then plan a larger heirloom piece.
I’d definitely split it up for separate small projects, that way I can savor it longer!
Hi!
I get tired of large (and even medium sized) projects, so I’d certainly be using threads etc on various different pieces.
I think I too like the whites best, but I dare say the darks wouldn’t go to waste either!!=)
I would love to do small pieces with the most beautiful pieces of material and silks like I haven’t seen before to leave to my 6 grandaughters to remember me by.
Hmm,,I am having many Ideas in my mind but I think I would Love to do something HUGE 🙂 you can see my Embroidery Work at my blog & you can Imagine I can go for even fabric embroidered Jewelry or any big thing too..Not sure..I will thing regular after winning this 🙂
I would definitely stitch several small projects if I were to win the giveaway. My stitched gift list for Christmas 2012 started Jan. 1st and these beautiful threads would be worked into the projects.
Many, many, many, many, many tiny little projects for me!!! so I can make lots of presents!!
Thank you!
I have several large projects on the go already, so I think that I would use these lovely threads in smaller projects but the linen I would be tempted to keep for something bigger.
One project! It would be marvellous to combine all the threads in one big project.
Thanks for the opportunity to win all these goodies! Greetings from the Netherlands, Miriam
I would make a stitchfest out of it.
Since I’ve started learning not long ago, I would use these for multiple projects, if I win them. Thank you for these!
Just found my love for embroidery!
My favorite dream is also my scariest, something that I feel compelled to begin, but once completed would reveal a secret about myself that even I cannot explain. My excuse up til this very day – or way to avoid revelation, is the need for highest quality materials – strong enough to handle stitches and design to best effect. Now, whether I win or not, I know where to find the best materials for this project…and, my excuse is gone. thank you
I have a very beautiful leaves collection for embroidering. I would put all these gorgeous materials into it to make it really luxurious!
I am not sure which way I’d go. Very often and idea for a project percolates in my head. I order the fabrics, threads, or pull them out of the home collection and then when touching, feeling, looking with the pieces in hand, the idea morphs and changes. It is as though the fabrics and threads speak out and call for use in ways different than the original idea.
So I don’t know, I don’t know. In any case, the photos and words in this post have me salivating. Am now sitting well back from the keyboard so as not to slobber on it.
Mary, thank you for all these awesome giveaways, each one has been wonderful. Your regular thoughtful posts are also so enjoyable. You inspire and delight with you heart felt love of stitching and the depth of your technical skill. Jane
Oh my, such luxury. I truly do not know what I would do with such fine fabric and thread. I would like to try a project, small or large, if I win.
Being from the UK I normally use Irish linens, or Zweigart so would love to try these new linen. You’re tempting me too often, my husband is going to kill me if I start another project but that bundle sounds oh so tempting. Each goodie pack is being logged for me to follow up so even if I don’t win I am going to die!
I would likely break them up into lots for smaller projects…I want to try some surface whitework, also some cutwork perhaps, or maybe some lefkaratika…I for sure would just admire them for awhile first before starting anything!
Happy New Year Mary!!
Definitely divide them up amongst various projects and make them last as long as possible. Beautiful !
This question left me pondering for a while, but I think I would sort of do both, split it up and save it. The linen I would save for one or more project that demand high quality linen, but the threads I would split and use them with other projects.
I like to do smaller items, so would probably use the linen to make many items – this way I can embroider many different techniques.
I’m a beginner so I would definitely use them in smaller projects. I need to improve my skills and would love something yummy to work with!
What a great giveaway. I love to try out alsorts of different threads and also materials. I like to do different designs also, it just depends what mood I am in also, I may have several works on the go also, and as I already said it depends on the mood of the day which one I work on that day!!!
Success! Tried all day yesterday to enter this drawing and my computer keep coming up with “page not found”.
I love working with linen…have some 48ct Austrian linen and it is a dream to work with. Would definitely love to try this linen, small or large projects as well as these beautiful silk threads. They are to drool for!
I would say several projects! That way I can get the feel of each type of thread and can use it to the best of its potential!!
Breanna -Lenexa ks
As the linen and threads sound as if they are such good quality, I would like to try different types of embroidery on them to see how they vary on the same material.
I would split the fabric up as I want to experiment with goldwork and stumpwork this year, although I do have a large project I need to revisit and this fabric would be perfect for this. Thanks for anoer great giveaway.
I would stretch out the supplies I’ve won as far and long as possible. I love to create pincushions and needle books and other smaller items. I also love to mix different threads in a project, to make it unique and my own creation so to say.
Today’s give away sounds beautiful….
I would have to split it into several smaller projects!! I’ve never worked with this type material so I would savor each little piece!!
What a great giveaway!!! I would probably do several small projects. I’m glad I found you site and bookmarked it. Now that I am retired I have more time to create. Looking forward to it also. Thank you.
I would need to divide into small projects so I could spread the wealth! This is a lucky winner for sure! Thanks ever so much Mary. This is better than the lottery. Good luck to everyone. Sure brightens the days of January. Chris Beresford from icy Michigan
The fabric would be perfect for my prefered embroidery type= needlepainting. The threads would also be integrated into my current picture of a swan landing on the water, plus many more pieces just waiting to happen. I can see 2012 being a very busy year!
I would not mind split up everything, but I am definitely one to dream of huge projects involving all kinds of threads and materials!
Thank you for offering such a nice gift.
I would use this beautiful fabric to make smaller items. Make it last longer. Sounds a real joy to stitch on and, as I love working smaller projects, I could see me using this for several months thus savouring its delights.
I can’t thank you enough for making this post. I completed The Chase sampler, from a kit, this year. It got me hooked on freestyle embroidery and/or crewel work. I have been trying to figure out what kind of linen to use to do my own piece. I have some crewel books on order and was just going to start shooting in the dark as far as linen goes. Even if I don’t win the giveaway, I now know where to go and what to get. In answer to the question, I’d use as many of the items as possible on a new embroidery project, hopefully from one of the books I have on order. Thanks again!
Hi,
I would use the supplies for one project…Probably a certain fish design that has been sitting on my back burner for a while.
I would divide the materials into small projects. These would be fabulous to win because I don’t have any silk thread at the moment. I’m fairly new to embroidery and have only bought kits before. I would like the opportunity to do a project from directions only, perhaps from a Country Bumpkin magazine. Ellen Johnson from Roanoke, VA
I would break these out into several projects. I have some small embroideries in the works and have room for some more.
I think I’d use this all up at once and ply it with some Lacey handspun.
I’d go for small projects.Lovely threads!.
Thank you Mary.
Anita-MM
What a wonderful giveaway and what a treat it would be to work w/ this!
I would most definitely spread the goodness and share them with family and friends!! Thanks for the chance!!
Good morning Mary, thank you for another awesome giveaway the silks are gorgeous-I love those neutrals.
I would use these silks in small projects or for my applique work thanks for the chance Kathy in Missouri
All one project – I’d love to do a piece that used all the different threads & textures of the silk ensemble. And the linen would be the perfect ground.
I’ve never done this type of embroidery. I’d probably start with a few small projects to get the hang of it. Thanks for the giveaway!
What beautiful materials! I would use on more than one project. Blackwork is something I have been wanting to try and these materials would be perfect for that project.
This is a great give away. Thank you for the opportunity to win it. I would love to use them on my warrior pins.
I would definetly use these threads in many projects.
a fantastic give away. i have not seen linenat all. would love to see and feel and work on it. so is the case with silk threads. would love to work a medium sized piece an dfew smaller ones, maybe a big piece of work framed and get envious appreciation from friends.
ansu chennai
I would do smaller projects, to start.
I’m very much a beginner, so I will definetely start with small projects to go on a small toilette bag or sutch. A small bird, a toadstool or a bouqet of flowers!
I will probably use the linen to make small projects. I do love large ones though. I would probably have to decide at a later time. The white silk threads are making me drool!
Dawn C
Southcoast, MA
I think i would like to use it for a couple of projects just to be able to extend the use of this fabulous fabric.
Hi Mary,
With such glorious goods I would want to research a concept, design a great idea and then put it all together. I suspect this would be a big project, to make the most of this excellent opportunity.
Thanks
Chris from Melbourne
I THINK I’d try to use all the materials in a single, large project – but I can’t promise I wouldn’t change my mind and divvy up the goodies for several projects instead! It would be a fun challenge for me to use everything in a single project – a good stretch to come up with that project and actually get it stitched!
Thanks, Mary, for this fun series!
I find that the older I get, the smaller the projects get….I’m working on coasters now.
Woudl love to win as I have the Winter Wonderland quilt to start. Thanks
Lynn
I would spend time looking at it, touching it, long before I decide where I wanted to use it. (Legacy linens are extremely expensive in South Africa.)
Hi Mary! Again, great giveaway today! I would probably split these up into a few projects. I’m just a newbie and need immediate satisfaction!
Traci in OK
I would use the materials on a variety of small projects.
I have only used silk threads once before on a recent project and silk is definately different to using cotton. I’d make lots of different things to enable me to gain more experience.
Thank you for such a lovely giveaway 🙂
I have not had the pleasure of using Legacy linens but would love to. I’m sure it would be great to be able to give it a try.
Oooh, if I won this giveaway, I’d use the threads on many, many projects. This would extend the wonderful feeling of using a gift for a longer period of time. All the good thoughts would be infused into each project. Hugs.
I see myself jumping head first, no holds barred into a full size project, if I should win.
I would most probably use the materials for small projects. As a newcomer to embroidery I have only so far done small projects like coasters so I do not think I would embark on anything too big yet.
I would use the materials to learn as much as I could, so it would be used in several smaller projects. My mother used to embroider, but she used cotton thread and there was little or no shimmer. I never really picked it up. But I saw a project the other day made with silk and gold and fell in love. I can use the basic’s she taught me with the wonderful materials available now and end up with projects that shimmer beautifully.
I would use these materials to make one big project. I do ribbn embroidery and want to make a purse for my daughter.
I would divide the materials into small projects. These would be fabulous to win because I don’t have any silk thread at the moment, never have used it but would love to try!
Sandy Gray, Ada, OKlahoma
Definitely smaller projects so I could get used to working with such fine materials. What a treat that would be.
Hi Mary,
If I were one of the lucky winners, I would have to divide the linen up into several small projects and make each of my daughter’s and grand daughter’s a special gift as a keepsake. The white silk thread is beautiful also and if I owned that package, I would have to make my daughter a special wedding cross or something in that line or perhaps something she could carry on her special day in the future.
Terese
I would likley work on many small projects. Small projects are more portable and I like the satisfaction of seeing things finished…so small projects are best for me!
I have not used Legacy linens before, but love using good linens for embroidery, especially needlepainting projects. I think I would use this give away for smaller projects because I would like to take my time and enjoy the linen and silk threads. Gay B, South Africa
I would more than likely make several small projects. I do not consider myself experienced enough and require a lot of practice. Being left-handed doesn’t help either. LOL. Thanks for the chance to win your fabulous giveaway.
Oh, I would definitely savor them and use them a little bit here and there, where they will be a special bit to show them off.
This is so exciting! I have never thought I was good enough for such beautiful supplies. If I were to win, I would share with my 96 year old neighbor. She is a lovely lady and still does beautiful embroidery. Thanks so much for the wonderful gifts you are sharing.
I would try with a small project first!
Hugs,
Laurita
I would love to have this linen. I have been using your website as a great resource, as I practice surface embroidery and if I had this linen it would spur me on to make a frame for a mirror, similar to the cover of Jane Nicholas’s book, “Stumpwork Embroidery, a Collection of Fruits Flowers and Insects…”
Debbie S.
I’m always working on small projects all at once, so I be able to use the materials on many projects. I keep the left overs from other projects and love to find a use for them in new projects.
I’m pretty sure I would divvy it up and make several smaller things. I like smaller projects for now since I’m somewhat of a newbie to embroidery and smaller projects are also more portable (I have one at work and one at home).
Btw those black threads are STUNNING! Love them!
Hello Mary
Probably I would try splitting these materials up between many smaller experimental projects, and doing them slowly while trying to get ideas from various embroidery books in my possession. Or if I did come across an all-out dream project, utilizing all the threads, I would go ahead and launch out.
Thanks
Dorothy
I would split this up into several smaller projects. That way it would last longer.
Cheryl in San Diego
Another wonderful giveaway. I am allllll about making things last. I would be using these gorgeous products on several small hand projects. I love and cherish anything handmade.
Hi Mary – I could hardly write yesterday (and then I could not with the technical issue). So today I am still oohing and aahing about the linen and the silks – I see a larger project with the whites and smaller projects with blackwork. So half and half, but not wishywashy! :))
I commented on this yesterday but do not see my comment so am repeating. I diffently would use this prize for smaller projects. Small projects are a good learning experience.
I love silk and linen! If I won, I would probably do one large project, but maybe not use all the piece of linen, so that I had a few small pieces for quick projects.
Hi Mary,
I’ve never tried any of these materials, so I would use them in one or two projects of my own design. It would be very exciting to be able to try some of best fabric and threads available. What luxury! Thank you, Mary.
Susie H
I would do several small projects rather than one large one. I just finished a huge embroidery project that I worked on off and on for over two years and I think I am ready for something I could bring to fruition quickly. The variety of threads offered would be great to work with. I have never used silk thread and looking at the choices in these packages make me drool.
I would probably spread it out. I love to have multiple projects at once. That way it allows for variety!
I would definitely use the supplies for several projects. The supplies are beautiful.
I love the black, and would use it to do an
embroidered collar…how i would love to win this…how can it get any better than that!
The prize would be used for multiple smaller projects. That way I could experiment and play with different Ideas & types of Embroidery. I have never used this quality of linen before. WOW they look fabulous! Another reason to do smaller projects I’d be afraid to mess up such lovely materials with a large project. What a lovely giveaway today. Cheers. Ashby
Good Afternoon! I would plan a full size project using all the materials … then a small craft project using any leftovers. Thank you.
I would really like to know what these linens look like as well as the feel of them. As much embroidery as I have done I don’t remember having, or using, this kind of quality material. I’ve always made sure that my finished piece is worthy of showing, but I bet none of my pieces are as nice as what one would be if I had done it on this type of linen. And I must confess that I am a black and white fan. Even my clothing is, for the most part, black and white. I would simply love to do something on either white linen w/black threads or black linen w/white threads. And yes I would like my project to be an all-out full-sized dream project. It might take me along time to finish it, but that’s what I would like to do.
Ouh la la! I don’t know if I would dare to use it, but I guess I would have at least a few projects, beginning with the smallest one, so not to waste a big part of it.
Diane from Montréal in Québec
……..you mean after Ive caressed it all, and then sat it at eye level and simply coveted it all? Well, then ………I would have to wait till my Creative Gene kicked in with an idea on what the threads and fabric needed to be made into….
I am a spontanious creator who may start off with a pattern but….soon launches off on my own take of it and its the threads and textiles that inspire me!
Mary,
I am a fan of Hedgehog handworks. As you said, they have a wonderful line of products and have very fast delivery. The linen and threads you’re offering would be used on two projects I am currently designing. I have decided to do needlework representations of all the houses we’ve lived in. The black thread selection would be especially useful in giving texture to the embroidery. Thank you for doing this for us needlework enthusiasts.
Definitely many! I have crafting ADD and so like to work on mostly small projects, otherwise they might never get done! For me, the real fun is starting a new project!
Many projects! I’m definitely the type to lose interest quickly when working on one big project; I can’t even fathom how people can spend years on one piece. I prefer much smaller, instant gratification kind of works. Though in every one of my little projects, there’s always something different. I love the variety!
Mi Mary,
I would definitely split it up and use it in as many projects as possible. I may even make something for myself for a change. What a crazy idea!!!
Thanks for doing this, It has been so much fun.
I’m in the split it up and savour it with many small projects, and I would also love to try different threads on the linen, and the threads on different fabrics. For example I have some Ice blue silk twill, which I think would be fantastic with the white threads…..
Perhaps my cluster sampler (I think that’s a better word than framed sampler, upon reflection) that I keep going on about!
This truly is a special give away. What an opportunity to design and stitch something lovely. The black threads would be perfect for my Eifel Tower project and the white……? Perhaps something related to winter and snow. Either way this is a wonderful opportunity to develop ones surface embroidery journey.
What a lovely giveaway! I would probably use it for several projects. I’ve recently just started doing embroidery again and enjoy small projects that enhance an item. Thanks so much for the chance.
I am trying to make something for my in-laws. My father in law is a Dr. of horticulture and my Mother-in-law is just amazing. Their health had been failing(they are both in their 80’s).
I have been working on a magnolia project based off the magnolia grandiflora picture they have on the website my husband and I developed for them(I can give the URL as inspiration for yourself and others if you would like), so to have better materials than the current cheap things I have for them would be amazing. The project I have in mind is a piece of nice cloth (not the terrible stretchy mess I have of cheap muslin currently) mounted to a box I made that is a 5 inch by 5 inch dark oak stained box (with mounting materials at the back with beads or upholstery thread on the edges to finish it off.
The last time I tried to make them something to remember it was blown glass which fell off the wall and shattered into a million shards. I just want them to know I love them and don’t want the last gift I gave them to be one of a million pieces that they had to clean up.
I wish everyone the best and if this contest is over, I apologize for the long story! I hope everyone had an amazing holiday and New Year!
Another great prize! It offers a lot of opportunities to try techniques and threads. I have wanted to try blackwork and would like to purchase the RSN book sometime. This would mean the book would be needed soon for some small projects!
I would probably play with the supplies as long as possible, stretching them out over several projects. I do better with small projects I can finish quickly. I hope I get the chance to try them out; your descriptions of these products over the years has my fingers just itching to get into those threads!
Thank you for doing all these wonderful give-aways.
What an opportunity to work with really fine materials! I buy the best I can afford but this is better and will be perfect for a class I’m taking!
I think I would split them up to savor them for awhile. The fabric is really pretty and the threads are even more beautiful.
I would spread it out on different types of projects. Also, would share with others as I am going to do some teaching this year. I am looking for the right kind of material and would like to try this.
Debra Puma
i’m a small project chick … i know i can do that rather than tackle huge project that eventually makes it into the ufo pile … love the linen and threads ….
darlene
I would divide the materials into several small projects. I like the sense of accomplishment small projects provide and I usually give the finished projects away as gifts.
I would probably start with some small projects because I’m still learning this type of embroidery. But it would also be nice to have in my stash for when that big “wow!” project comes along! Thank you so much for letting us know about these sumptuous products and where we can find them!
I love to do needleturn applique and silk ribbon embroidery.I would love to create a project with the fine fabrics and silk thread. Silk thread is one of my absolute must haves for applique and the fabrics would be wonderful for a silk ribbon piece.
I would probably use in one or two projects I have in mind. Just thinking about the possiblities is pure delight!
I would so a small first to get the feel of the fabric then use the rest for some wonderful design!
I would like to use this in many small project. It would be a nice touch to make it last.
I don’t know exactly what I would do, I would love to use them all in one special project…but if some of them would be “perfect” for an other project I would use them that way.
I would probably do a number of smaller projects. Anymore, I like to see more rapid results than when I was younger!!!!
I just love the information you are sharing in your daily newsletter & in these 12 days of give-aways! I am bookmarking & planning to order a number of things you have mentioned. If I were to win this 9th day of linen & silk threads I would want to think hard about how to use them. I would let the colors inspire me. I’m not sure if it would be one piece or more. I am dying to try the Alabaster Angel!
I love the silk threads and the linen is beautiful! Would love to win,
Claudia from NJ
I LOVE to try new linens and threads. I have no idea on what I would use these beauties on, but I would think of some thing exquisite.
Wow what beautiful fabric! I would save it for a special project, especially the silks. It can be expensive to buy nice materials for embroidering so I would definitely cherish these. I have never designed my own project before and have been getting ideas on how I want to do that. One thing about my stitching I always have more than one project going but I’ve always got projects waiting in the wings. I don’t think I’ll ever finish stitching, just the thought makes me sad.
I would make several small projects – little wall hangings with inspirational quotes, 1 for every room in the house.
I would use these items in a number of project. The possiblities are endless.
gosh – I would probably split them up for smaller projects BUT i have a couple of big celtic ones which I might choose from and use all the lovely goodies on that. what a fab prize for the lucky winner ;0)
What a treat it would be to work with such fantastic fabrics. I would like to share these fabrics and threads with other members of my embroidery guild and plan a project on which we could work, so everyone could experience the pleasure of stitching with them. Love your 12 days of Christmas.
WOW! I think I would split them up- just so I could enjoy them over a longer time period.
I would go all out and stitch something that I could try all the threads in. They are all beautiful.
Hi Mary,
Since I’m just starting to embroider I would
like to try smaller project just to see what
can be done with the different fabric and
threads.
Love, love your web site.
Carol January 4, 2012
What lovely supplies! I would want to split then into several smaller projects and enjoy them over an extended period- use them for something unique to treasure.
It depends on the size of the fabric in the prize as to whether I divide it into smaller projects or us it to make a table runner or mat for my huon pine chest of drawers. It would be interesting to experience using the threads which I haven’t come across.
Mary (second time comment – first has not appeared)
You have hit my passion (or some may call it obsession!) I would look forward to creating a very special project – perhaps a tablecloth or runner, but leaving a little fabric aside on which to experiment with the variety of threads first. I am happy to leave my current Perle threads behind and try the new Silk Road journey with the Au Ver a Soie threads. I am already dreaming of caressing this lovely fabric!
Eu faria muitos projetos. Gosto de bordar.Lindo brinde. Obrigado.
I would definitely split the products up if I won. I have several ideas in the back of my mind, and I would love the chance to try them. This blog will be going in my list of favorites, and Hedgehog Handworks is going on my list of websites to explore….and possibly order from! Thank you so much!
Small projects, definitely. I would definitely like to finish several small, portable projects to get the learning curve down pat. Then I can fantasize about a grand design.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Both the fabric and threads are truly beautiful. I would use them together on one project. I have something in mind to give as a gift and the threads and fabric would be perfect. Thanks for all the resources you share with your readers, Mary. Since we have no needlework shop where I live, the websites you recommend are very much appreciated.
I would use them for small projects I think. Lovely threads, so beautiful
Dear Mary,
Wow, another good one. Am just catching up after being offline for the last few days, and am overwhelmed with the offerings. I would use the linen and silks on several small projects, as I am fairly new to most types of surface stitchery so prefer to start with the smaller projects, but something big is surely in the future.
Thank you for this chance to win such gorgeous stuff.
Gerry (Alberta, Canada)
I would use this linen for smaller projects. Big projects get overwhelming for me and several smaller projects would get done quicker. The fabric looks so nice and the threads are beautiful too.
I would probably use the supplies up in a few different projects. Get some mileage out of them.
I think I would split the materials up. I would probably make ornaments with the threads and use the fabric for a Trish Burr bird project that I’ve been waiting to start.
After reading your blog about the book “Home Sweet Home, I would divide the linen to make the different projects.
Knowing myself, I would probably be tempted to launch into one big, beautiful project. But it might be wiser to start with a few smaller projects as working with silk thread would be new to me.
Mary, I had to think long and hard about this one, but I finally came to a decision. Fifty years ago, my grandmother embroidered two identical, table cloths, one for my sister and one for me. I have no grand daughters, but my sister has three. My sister passed down her cloth to her oldest daghter. If the cloth you are giving is big enough, I would like to duplicate Grandma’s work and present it, along with the one grandma made for me, teach of the other two girls. this would be a legacy from the great grand mother they never knew, and a family tradition to keep her memory alive.
Hi Mary,
I think I would like to tiptoe in and try some small samples with the threads and then perhaps use what is left over (if any) for a large piece.
I love the sheen of silk and using natural fibres for stumpwork. Small stumpwork flowers/insects white on white comes immediately to mind. These smaller projects make beautiful gifts. Thanks for the opportunity to enter!
I am still in the learning mode regarding fabrics. I love the linens and the threads that you are giving away! I see myself savoring the linen and threads until I get a better frame. I love the Milennium frame that you highlighted and I would like to tackle a big project when I am able to get one.
I would split the give aways into smaller esperimental projects, I have never worked on linen etc,. it just sounds exciting, my grandmother did al kinds of linen embroidery, I wish I would have learned from her. Sarma
Hi Mary,
I love linen and silks. I would probably use them for several smaller projects, to spread the beauty further. Plus I’m more likely to finish smaller projects. Although I may decide to create a christening gown in the next few months. Thanks again,
Bonnie b from N.B. Canada
I’d probably split it up. I love linen and it is so hard to find around here other than on the internet where you cant see or touch it to judge its quality.
I have never had the opportunity to sttich on this quality of linen. If I were one of the two winners I would split up prize to use on several small projects.
Small projects for me – since these materials are not available here,I would rather take my time and enjoy them and stitch little by little 😉
I’m sure I would do several small projects. I need to have completion fairly rapidly. How wonderful it would be to win this fabulous linen with the black or white threads as an awesome bonus.
I would use the bounty for smaller projects. Since my husband died, stitching is the only way I truly find peace. Unfortunately, I get bored rather quickly and a large project would most likely become a UFO. I love being able to finish smaller projects and find them new homes where they will be enjoyed.
Thank you for doing this wonderful giveway series.
Many projects. If I work on a superproject, I am sure I would always be worried that I could have done it better. With many smaller projects, I would be happy with some of them.
This is a hard one. I really don’t know how I’d use the threads if I won. Offhand I’d say I use them as needed in a variety of projects, but once I see them, it’s possible that I’d get an idea for a single project.
Hi Mary,
If I was fortunate enough to win these lovely fabrics and threads I would put them to use on the projects in the Home Sweet Home sewing box and accessories project.
I was able to get the book from Wooly Thread and I love every project in it. Hopefully this fabric could be appropriate for making the box and small sewing accessories.
Sincerely,
Debbie Brian
I would probably do several small projects. Among them would definitely be a monogram and I would like to try my had at some blackwork, something I have never done.
Oh how beautiful. I’d opt for many projects. Trying out different ways to use everything.
Definitely a few smaller projects to experiment with the different fibers, I’d love to try them all.
Pat J
I would do many smaller projects as I worked my way to gaining the confidence and skill for tackling a larger one later.
Hi,
I think if I won this I have the perfect project that I would use it on. I would hand embroider a quilt and use fabric to put the blocks together. I even have what I want to embroider. Thanks for the giveaway.
I am sure I would do several small projects also. I like completing things and it would be fun to see what kind of things I could think up to do with these beautiful threads and the beautiful linen.
I would savor the fabric and threads and stitch several smaller projects!
Hooray I can leave a comment, after just posting tomorrows comment and whinging about the file error, I go back and find it is fixed. Now that could be a bit confusing for some but just put it down to having a “blonde Moment” and forget I said that.
I have never had any beautiful purpose made linen to sew on so maybe if I had some I would not use it in one piece but section up and make some smaller pieces. I am using all my embroidery pieces ( These are my learning pieces, i.e. thread painting, gold work, etc) into a crazy quilt made of silk for my daughter. I thought it would be a good way to make something nice and all hand done and use up all the little embroideries.
I’d probably split it up for several projects. Seems too nice to use up all at once 🙂
Mary,
I think if I were to win I would do a few medium size projects. Something not too big or not too small. I have a niece who just finished a white work on linen project. I think it would be nice to work together on a project with our own stitching, compare and take notes so we can learn more. Not to mention it would help me finish the project. Thanks a bunch
Maria in Kansas
Were I to win this giveaway I would make several small projects that when put on the wall would be a series. I have seen some where part of the project is in one hoop and the rest of the picture is in another hoop. For instance, a girl with a balloon and the string goes up and in the hoop above is some more string and the balloon. I can just see a sweet series like this for my little great granddaughters.
I guess I would use the materials in a large project, adding to the threads from my extensive stash that I’ve been building up for ‘something special.’ Another reason the project would be large is because I’m the Queen of Biting Off More Than I Can Chew. When (at the end of time)I finally finish all of my projects, there will be some major cataclysmic event to mark the occasion.
Hi Mary,
What a fantastic opportunity to create a masterpiece – such beautiful fabric and threads should be combined to make a great show. Many thanks for the chance to win.
Trish, Whangarei, NZ
I’d like to try the linens and silk on a few projects as i haven’t tried either before, it would be just lovely to win one of these.
carolh
Nice products, well I believe I’d have to wait and choose a design that would use all this sweet stuff or see what more I can add to it if need be. Still very nice to work with silk.
These threads would be ideal for small projects to have opportunity for experimenting and therefore not being overwhelmed and not completing the project. An awesome opportunity to work with such fine linen and threads. Thank you for continuing to introduce new items for us to consider using in projects.
Oh, I’d love to try out those linens. I could see a medium sized whitework or blackwork project using just the linen and threads, but I’m sure there would be enough left over to use on many other projects to come. What a treat it would be to experiment with so many different textures!
I would use this fabric and thread on many projects, not just one big one. After all, would you eat a box of fine chocolates at one sitting, or gulp down an expensive bottle of wine? Rather , you would take the time to savor both, so why should fine linen and thread be any different?
Love good fabrics!
I am so enjoying this giveaway, takes me some time to go through the links in each post. Have already seen some loveky things.
I am participating in Sharon B’s TAST 2012 and will be learning new stitches. I would love to use these in experimenting with the new stitches I learn and get to see about other materials that I haven’t used before.
LisaB
My favorite embroidery techniques are drawn and pulled thread using linen fabric. I find it hard to get good quality linen. As I usually have at least one pulled thread project on the go I would do several small projects. I like working with white but would be curious to experiment with the black threads.
I would use these lovely materials to make several small projects…savoring them! Jane
I would use the linen for a single big project (I have several possibilities already in mind) and use the silk threads wherever needed. During Christmas, one of my cousins wandered into my studio, then came out to say, “You are working on SEVEN different projects!” I didn’t tell him there are quite a few more that are on a back burner and so not out in the open! Janet
I would probably use them in different projects. The threads would be a welcome addition for my crazy quilting embroidery.
Hugs

If I were to win this beautiful gift, I would first spend a considerable amount of time just admiring the beauty. I’d keep a safe distance to assure no drool landed on it all! I think I would try to use the threads in one ‘heirloom’ type of project, though I would probably stitch an ornament or two first as a ‘warm up’.
These linens are gorgeous. I would love to use them for bridal handkerchiefs with hand stitched embroidery on them.
Judy
My very big dream project.
I’m planning on a wall hanging with family crest for our 10th wedding anniversay, which will be in five years. Which gives me plenty of time to plan around, gather experiences and materials. At least I hope, five years are “plenty of time”. 😉
The black ensemble and the linen would be a very good basis.
I would love to have a beautiful piece of fine linen to make a gorgeous sampler. I wouldn’t want to experiment on such a nice piece of linen with beautiful silk threads.
I love those Soie fibers and the Accentuates; have used them many times before for multiple looks. So I would have several projects in mind for a great collection of threads like this. Thanks for offering them.
Ooh, I can’t decide. I believe that using the threads at the same time to show the contrast might be the best.
Ahh, linen. In a sizable chunk. What to do? First I’d probably have to simply enjoy it for a while (the very best way to feel wealthy even if one is not!), but in the end it would most likely find its ‘best and highest’ use as a single project.
If I were to win this prize, I would use the linen in one big project. I would love to try something like the medallion project with the vermicelli background.
I just LOVE Dover Legacy quality linen. This is such a special fabric that I would use it for a very special Blackwork piece that I have been saving to do. The other half of the fabric (if it is big enough) I would use for another cross stitch piece that I have been wanting to do for some time.

Mary,
I would divide the linen among many projects, I think. I am reminded of some frustration I experienced this year, as I was stitching quite a few ornaments for Christmas. I had saved a good amount of stash from prior projects and figured that the small sized projects i.e. ornaments, would be a good way to useup some of the nice linen. I completely exhausted my supply before I was done and decided to run off to my local big box craft store to purchase a package of their linen. Big mistake! It was so frustrating to use inferior quality linen. I am now a self-proclaimed linen snob!
All of the above. I have always wanted to make an embroidered box and this year have resolved to do so. That is a large project made up of several small projects. My hope is that it would become a true family heirloom like the wonderful embroidered caskets of colonial times. It should, therefore,be made of the finest materials. These linens and silks certainly qualify and make a good start.
I would love to try stitching with these poducts. I would split the materials for smaller projects.
It is so wonderful to learn about these great quality products. I would use them for small projects to help them last and to give me a chance at finishing something.
Thanks for listing the sources for buying this as well.
Mary
hi Mary,
I will use this fabric for many projects , i didn’t use before such a beautiful fabric for my stitching , it look very elegant , we don’t have such material in my country , i have to order online .
But i want to thank you anyhow for your kindness , you opened my eyes to alot of things i didn’t know before.
God bless you and your team
Nermin
I would probably search for and individual project that would use all (or most) of the threads in the set! How beautiful each set is! I could see a lovely whitework piece done with the set of luscious white threads. I could see using the black set to do a sampler of various stitches to show off the wonderful traits of the individual threads. The linen is sigh-worthy…ahhhh….
Since I do so many different types of needlework, I would most likely use these
beautiful threads and fabrics bit by bit as
new ideas begin to take shape. I love having
different threads and fabrics around me because
I think they increase the creativity level.
All the prizes are so wonderful, this is the
best Christmas treat a stitcher could ever ask
for!!!!!
Working with wonderful fabric and wonderful thread is a dream come true. I would use the fabric for more than one project and would love to have either of the combinations of fabric and thread that you are offering.
While a “stitchfest” sounds fun, I would probably go with many smaller projects, or perhaps small pieces that could then be reassembled, like a quilt. Thanks for hosting!
Overwhelmed by your generosity. You will be rewarded. 🙂 Would love to try the many fabrics out there for embroidery work. You have given me a new perspective and learning so much from your website. Thank you.
I would use the threads for many different projects. I love using different types of threads fr many creative projects
Many! I have way too many fun ideas to use it all up on only one project!
had trouble getting here and had to come in a back way
the linen is beautiful as is the thread. I think I would spread the enjoyment out over more than 1 project
Being a beginner, I would use the linen and silk for a variety of experimentation projects. I am familiar, however, with the quality of Hedgehog products and feel that the items would probably be better used by someone more accomplished for some all out dream project(s). Did I just talk myself out of possibly being a potential winner?
Hi Mary,
Would love to see this fabric as you can’t get this in NZ. Would like to see if there are any differenecs compared to the linens that are found in New Zealand. Love the colours of the threads, but not sure what to do!!??!!
I would split them up into many different projects. They would certainly keep me busy. 🙂 Sue
I have a medium-sized project in mind so I would see the best way of dividing what remained into smaller projects. I would want to do both blackwork and whitework as two smaller projects.
First I would do experiments on lesser linen and develop my skills and the designs I would use. I would want to discover the differences between the way the threads stitched and the look of the results. This would tie into the final designs. Then I would execute them on the good linen.
I would definitely do several projects so that I could stitch something gorgeous for each of my grandchildren!
I would love to win one of these Linen-silk gifts. I am a multi project stitcher with many projects of all sorts to be worked on as time allows and mood directs!
I’d like to do one large project so that I could use all materials to spectacular effect!
I’d like to do one large project so that I could use all materials to great effect!
What wonderful threads and linen. I have never stitched on linen and think it would be wonderful to be able to. I think that I would try to find the perfect project for the perfect background and perfect threads and stitch a dream project.
Louise
SWEET! Boy oh boy! I would plan a Magnus Opus and then I would enjoy having the Luxury of being able to work it out with enough Materials to make my mistake-filled and grubby sample and THEN to go ahead with Confidence knowing I had enough STUFF to finish the Masterpiece! Well, that’s the Plan at least…
If I could win that lot of wonderful quality stitching material and thread, I would work on a project for my new parish Priest. A couple of things that go through my mind are a burse and pall. I bought your stitching pattern book, which is loaded with beautiful designs; perfect for the great linen. Tanya, South Carolina
My mother taught me early on the joy of working with fine materials. I chance to try these beautiful items would be a great joy.
Definitely many small projects…. unless I am enticed by an irresistible beautiful larger project…. I am open to all possibilities, but I think small is best for me.
I think I would have to select one very, very special project if I were to win any of these incredible items!
Thank you for holding these giveaways, along with all the great information, as usual.
Thank you,
Betsy Pratt
Knittingbetsy (at) comcast (dot) net
I think I would tackle several micro projects so I could share with more people. Most of the things I make I give to my Mom or Sisters or Friends. This would allow me to share with several
Manyyyyyyy small projects… to enjoy the materials as long as possible :))))
If I am the lucky winner of these beautiful products, I would be the proud creator of one major project that would proudly show off the quality and beauty of the linen and threads. I would also also then create a smaller design, a miniature beauty that would show the product in its best light.
Hi Mary, another beautiful giveway and after much thought, I think I would be inclined to do one major project. I have done several very large counted cross stitch projects, there is an enormous sense of pride in a large piece of needlework. Not to mention it really creates a presence when hanging on the wall. And I couldn’t agree more, if you can only afford to do one project, use the best quality fabrics, needles, thread and of course a gorgeous pair of scissors!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!! I think I would do one large project and some little ones as well. I have wanted to try my hand at needlepainting!! Thanks for the Chance from beautiful Central North Carolina!!
Linda Mc L
Hi Mary
ONE project with the linen (would hate to cut it up) and several projects with the threads! Would love to have the opportunity to work with silk.
I would like to use these materials to translate some of my drawings into embroidery. I would do several small ones but related to each other. Stitch the same model but different poses.
I would do many little things, since I pretty much always do many little things! I love doing key rings, bookmarks and hankies but I don’t have the stick-with-it for big projects.
This is a great giveaway. I would use the linen for smaller projects and share some with my daughter. I would love to add those threads to my collection.
Probably many, after I drooled over them for a bit. I don’t want to embarass anyone least of all myself but I want badly, desire desparately, and pretty please with sugar on top may I have the white set? I adore whitework.
thanks,
karen in western nc
If I had materials of this quality, beauty, and harmony with one another, I would definitely devote them to a larger, more substantial project.
so much luxury in one go!.. i would rather wear i ton me instead of draping it on some furniture.. 😀 depending on the size and feel of the cloth material, am either incorporating it in some apparel piece or making a lace out of it.. and am definitely going for black work!
I would love to use these gorgeous materials for several projects – and it would be an excruciating decision – the white threads or the blacks! Thanks for the fantasy and fun of these giveaways!
I will do three projects. I just lost my mother, am losing my father any day one, and the 13 th anniversary of my bother’s death is approaching. I want to preserve some of the many memories of my family before I lose any one else. My mother loved flowers, my daddy was in the army, a nurse and coyly grow anything. My brother was the funniest person in the world and left behind a beautiful son. Life is delicate and beautiful and you do not forget, you never forget the people in your life.
Absolutely, I would make many smaller projects and enjoy experimenting with the various types of beautiful silk thread on the best quality linen!
I would like to pay tribute to the delicate lives that are not with me anymore so that they will never be forgotten. I taught myself crewel embroidery in the hospital in 1980. That piece my mother loved so much was buried with her and now I will create new memories.
I would just love to win the linen and threads. I haven’t worked on linen very much as it is very expensive here in Western Australia. I would probably do three or four projects, rather than a large one, as it wouldn’t take as long to do. I have a lot of UFO’s as I am sure others do as well. Many thanks
Doto, Wanneroo, Western Australia
Mary,
I love the feelof silkon linen. It’s like water slipping over sand, or so I think. I’d like to try a rather large and complex blackwork sampler I have a chart for. But that would likely take me years to finish. Sould I go for someting sammler and immediate gratification? No I really want to try the sampler. If I don’t win I guess I’ll have to go to Hedgehodge Handworks and buy myself a present. I find them very nice to deal with.
Best regards
Elaine B. of WV
Wow, to be able to use the same materials as yourself, Mary, would be wonderful. I have been following and recieving your emails for sometime now, and I am most thankful to you for sharing so much with us all out here. One day soon I hope to be able to “show” something I have done and been inspired by you and the wonderful fabrics, threads etc that you use.
Thankyou for sharing so much with us.
You’ve given me some new company websites to check out, and some new-to-me interesting info.
I’d use the fabric for smaller projects :-).
Many projects. Fabric as nice as this, would have to be for very special things. Gifts!
I would most likely use them for smaller projects and probably share it with my class of girls who will be learning embroidery this semester. I especially appreciate the segments on your blog where you share your experience teaching embroidery to girls~ that’s how I found you 🙂
One project, or many? If you were to win this give-away, could you see yourself splitting these materials up between many smaller experimental projects, savoring them and stretching them out for a while, or could you see yourself launching into a full-sized, all-out dream project, utilizing all the thread types and all the fabric in one huge stitchfest?
This lot would most likely be parceled out amongst several project. On the other hand, It would be a blast to use some of each tread in one smaller project to show the differences in them.
I think I would probably use the majority of the thread in a sampler type project. It would be great to the different types of thread all together.
I would likely use them in multiple projects. I find when I complete a project there are usually many threads left over and I incorporate them into other projects whenever I can.
Wow! I would do small projects with the linens and threads to make them last longer. This way I experence the great pleasure of working with something I’ve always wanted but couldn’t afford.
Oh how I have petted and admired the high quality linens in my local embroidery shop. I do have some small cuts, and I am working on small projects. If I won these prizes, I would use them for one large piece. I have a large embroidery frame, a gift from my oldest son, and I have several projects in mind. I have always worked on very small projects, and now I am thinking I have just been too timid to move on. I think I would finally try a large project.
Hello Mary,
So many choices….I would most likely make a few samplers.
I would love to feel such lucious materials proposefully made to be the base for hand stitching. I would like to acquaint myself in it’s hand and texture.
I think I would lay it out and admire it for a time, but think eventually it would get used a more than a single project.
I’ve several pattern that I’ve purchased without supplies and I’d probably chose from one of those to get myself started!
This fabric looks awesome! If I won this gift I would use it in small to medium projects. All different projects and all with different threads. All different techiques!
If I won this, I would definitely use this for lots of different projects. I love making little things, and I can think of all sorts of ways to use such lovely linen and silks!
This has got to be the best of all your fantastic give-aways! I am not sure if I would try my hand on a bigger project using these materials; I would probably first have to touch them and see if inspiration comes with it. Lacking a really GREAT idea, I would probably rather do several smaller projects, to get the most out of these wonderful products ( I am sure, I have never yet worked with such fine and precious materials)
Oooh, at first I thought I would parcel it all out, but the more I think about it, it does seem like a great opportunity to take on an heirloom-quality project, given the quality (and quantity) of materials. I’m not sure what kind of project exactly, it would take plenty of tactile input (meaning I have to get my hands on them!) for me to begin to visualize what they most wanted to be. (Does that make sound a little crazy? Well, I probably am.)
Depending on the size of the linen, I think I would like to try my hand at a fancy table runner or a decorative piece for my large coffee table! Usually, with something as fine as this linen and thread, I would try to stretch it over several projects. But I think the larger project would use it to its full advantage.
I rather like the idea of stretching out the materials in multiple smaller projects but it depends on how I feel at the time. One big project for over the winter here in MN would be good too!
Definitely would savour them and use for smaller projects – love surface embroidery and it is only as good as the linen that one uses. Love to work on quality fabric.
It would have to be several projects for me. The linen would be put to use for both crewel and stumpwork ground fabric. The smaller leftovers would go to make ornaments for next year’s holiday season. The threads would be sampled in the stumpwork, some surface work, and the counted work of the ornaments. Ohhhh *rubbing hands gleefully* the possibilities. 🙂
Thank you for sharing some new companies names! If I will win this giveavay I want to use fabric for one big project but it depends what the size of fabric. Thank you!
I would definitely use these for several smaller projects, many of which would be gifts, no doubt. Thank you Mary for this chance.
What wonderful possibilities! I think it would have to be several projects for me. I don’t yet have the skill to do anything very big. Or maybe I would save it for when my skill level is higher? Not sure but I would love to have the opportunity!
Thanks, Mary!
I really enjoy working on smaller projects, so I would use the beautiful fabric and lovely collection of thread to create several sampler type items.
Ohhhhh! I would be tempted to use them on one project, but would make the most of these beautiful threads and fabrics by stitching as many different patterns as possible!
i would spread out these supplies on a number of projects. As I don’t have a project in mind that would use all supplies shown right now.
Robin Marks
This is a beautiful collection! I believe I would make several smaller pieces – perhaps as gifts to family members. The darker colors in particular catch my eye, but both selections are fabulous. You are so kind!!
I think I would use these fibers across several projects to add that something extra.
I would use this beautiful fabric and thread for many projects. I enjoy experimenting with new threads that I have not used before. Such lovely offerings!
Hi Mary! What a nice set to be given away. My budget has never allowed the purchase of linen nor silk threads, so I’d probably just sit in disbelief that they’re even in my home (lol), once I got used to the idea, I’d more than likely go big.
Oh my gosh. So many beautiful things. I am just learning but I would treasure all of these and put them to use.
It would be several projects – one of which I would like to design a sampler for a family member as a gift for 2012 Christmas present!
hi mary
that will difintely add to my stock and I think I can use them for my future projects. It is very kind of you for put these as give away. Thank you.
Vijayalakshmy P R
I would make it into a stichfest!
Definitely a series of projects! I’ve decided tHis year is the year of embroidery for me (last year was primarily an appliqué year) so these supplies would be wonderful! Thanks, Mara
Ohh, I would have to stretch out the prize to make it last as long as possible!
The fabric looks gorgeous!
Thank you for the opportunity to win.
I have never used really good linen or had a lot of experience with silk thread, so I may try some kind of sampler to learn their attributes.
I believe I would ,split the materials up between many smaller experimental projects, savoring them and stretching them out for a while.
I would experiment with a couple of very small projects and then do one really big piece. Using all those threads in one project would be a fabulous way to play and learn, just what I like!
I would try to use them over several projects and make them last. Unless I found a very special project then I may use them all at once.
I would love to try the fabric, I prefer to use linen when doing surface embroidery as I like the looks as a background plus the feel of linen. I would most likely use the threads in various projects instead of one specific project.
Violet in NH
J think j will do a special project in blackwork with all those beautiful black threads. J am interested also in the white set, for a surface embroidery on the fine linen.
I’d use these threads and fabrics in tons of smaller projects. I find that big projects are not my thing. I start with great enthusiasm but it fizzles. Smaller ones keep the spark till the end.
I would either use the white thread for my little girls first communion dress and veil or learn white work and black work in small projects. Thanks for the opportunity!!!
I definitely would use them for several small projects, getting a feel for the materials.
I have no idea at this moment what I would do with these. I think they would be added to my collection to be hoarded and drooled over at first. Just like the few yards of Legacy linen I bought and am afraid to cut into. One of these days I will bit the bullet!
Maybe that’s what I need to finally start on my huge project… I have a sketch all drawn and ready to be stitched for almost 2 years now and yet nothing has happened. It seems to be to big to start.
I would want to use the linen for small projects, which is what I like to work on.
That way it will last a long time.
I would focus on a large project. Maybe recreating a Tudor blackwork head cover.
That is a tough one according to the inspiration whether it be on large or several small projects..
I would make several small projects so more people could enjoy the beauty of the linen and threads.
Mary, thank you for introducing me to Hedgehog Handworks. Materials for hand work is quite limited in my area. I would savor the materials until awoken in the night by my mysterious muse, giving me composition for a major work of art. Mary Jo in Morton IL
Since I have resolved to finish some projects this year, I would pick several smaller projects rather than a large one.
I would savor every inch of the supplies I win and use them wisely.
Linen and silk, great materials to work with. And can one ever have too many projects?
Hi Mary,
These silks and fabrics are beautiful. I think If I were to receive these I would probably use them in smaller experimental projects.
Thanks for considering me
sincerely, Carolyn
I don’t know if I could bear to cut into such beautiful fabrics and threads. I do know that I would really have to search to find a project that would do them justice.
Mary,
I’m frugal by nature, so the first impulse is to stretch out the usage of the linen and threads. But such luxury!! I’m beginning to have second thoughts…. And will have to do a lot of research for the perfect project!
It’s most likely I would use the threads in different projects. There are samplers I have my eye on that use different threads than strandable silk or cotton, and for the most part, I’ve only ever used the strandable threads in counted embroidery projects. Having such a good array of threads would provide an opportunity to work in earnest with different ones in some of those projects. In regard to the linen I don’t work on anything else these days. I love the strength, feel, surface, and historicity of good linen. The smallest count I’ve ever stitched on is a 35 count natural raw linen, over 2 threads. Using a really fine quality 48 count linen would give me an opportunity to try some entirely new techniques–a traced pattern, for example, or needle painting.
So many possibilities. I would probably use them in several smaller pieces – unless a large project came to mind prior to that!
I would probably split these up into smaller projects. I don’t have the patience to work on a large project.
If I were lucky enough to receive these lovely fabrics and threads, I would begin a search for an incredible project, whether it be one large project, or several smaller ones. I would have to research for something “just right”.
Hi Mary – This was the comment I could not originally get into so here goes. Loved the materials on this one and I think there is far too much for one project so I would be going with a few for this one. I cannot remember seeing that fish before and thought it was just amazing and I went back to all the articles on that one. Would luv at some stage to find out more about that but it seemed like you just made it all up out of your head – I was kind of hoping you had a pattern for that one and knew of where one could get more patterns like it for other animals??? I was not sure about putting it on a bag – too good for that I thought! – it was incredible – you are such an inspiration for me on a daily basis and I thank you so much for that.
All the best and thanks again for all the wonderful things you have brought to this.
Eleanor – Isle of Man
It isn’t easy for me to find fabric, especially good linen for my projects. I have no local source except the internet which doesn’t allow you see or feel the fabric. I’m doing a thread painting of Sweet Peas on some linen I got at Joann’s which leaves a lot to be desired.
My sons fly me to the Baltimore/DC area every couple of years, and I head to a needle work shop to buy threads and fabric. I picked up a piece of Belfast linen…very expensive. So I could really use some nice linen to make some pieces to give to my lone grand-daughter and 4 grandsons, who seem to growing up faster than I can keep up with.
My grandson sent me a birthday card last week, on the front it said, “Someone said you were getting older” and on the inside it said, “but I put them straight” Love you Elliot
I have a lot of stitching left to do!
Carie in MT
I’ve never worked with silk thread… but what a magnificent kit to start with! I’d save it for something special– a single project, maybe for my Mom’s upcoming 40th anniversary??
If I won these threads and linen – I would first use them for a small project to increase my skills. Hopefully there would be enough left for a larger project as a follow on. Thanks for the days of Christmas give aways.
Hi Mary,
I tried several times to leave a comment for this particular one however, there was something wrong with the link and I always got an error (401).
I would like to win this one and I do prefer to work on projects that I can complete in a week or two. I don’t like to keep things, so, I love to give away them to my friends that are always asking me about on what I’m working these days.
Thanks for all these great gifts.
Savador from Costa Rica
Probably many projects, I guess it would depend on the project. The fabric’s look perfect for future monogram projects. And the silks! Oh my, oh my, oh my! I’m not sure I could use them on a project, I would be too greedy and want to keep them for my stash to pet and stroke!
If I had these fabrics (or, you know, any decently-sized amount of embroidery fabric) I’d want to make something pretty for my apartment– maybe a decorative piece of embroidery for our walls, or a table runner or something of that sort. Mmm, the possibilities!
I think I would spread these wonderful thread choices over many projects and share some with friends who also have a love of thread. I’m so glad that the computer fixed the problem on this entry so I could at least try to win this elegant batch of threads.
Definitely many small projects! I would need to make the enjoyment last…The threads are a special bonus. Judy R
I prefer to work small – I often take sewinge when I am travelling for work so small is important. So, I could see using these materials for a number of small, highly decorative pieces of work – possibly forming the pages of a sampler book?
Small but special projects…
Fredi SW
If I won this give-away, I would use for several smaller projects. What fun to have such beautiful materials with which to experiment!
Honey in Philly
Mary I would love to have this linen no matter what size. I have never stitched on this quality of linen before and would like the opportunity to find out what it’s like to stitch on something so nice. Thanks for all the 12 days of giveaways.
I think I would have to split up the materials into lots of small projects so that I could get lots of practice on new techniques.
I’m thinking some smaller projects so I could get my feet wet, and then use the rest for a larger project. I’d love to do a piece with white thread on white linen.
Hi Mary,
Thank you once again for a wonderfull website. You are better than any theacher could be in a school. I learned a lot on your site and is still learning as I have to teach myself with your site as I am staying to far from a big city to attend a class in embroidery.
Thanks again
Heleen South Africa
Oh I can see these wonderful threads being used in many different projects. The whites immediately make me think christening gown. I too am always preaching the “use the best materials you can afford” mantra. It makes all the difference in the world. Not only to your project but to your enjoyment of working on the project. Time is precious, don’t waste it with inferior supplies.
I originally commented on day 10 for this as this page was unavailable, but I have come bask to comment here now I can.
I think I would use this for several medium sized projects, unless something large called my name, and that has been known to happen!!
Thank you so much for this series of give- aways.
Blessings
Maxine
After reading your reviews about Trish Burr’ Needlepainting, I have put it on my list to try. When I look through my books it looks like I had the thought to do needlepainting before becaause I have 2 books about it. I have never worked on linen but i always believe for number of hours I put in on a project, and know the project would outlast me, I always try to buy the BEST materials I can. They silk threads which I have finallyy learned to work wiith are top of the line beautiful. Since I am just beginning I would not want to waste thread or linen. So I would find beautiful small projects to do in one of my beginning crewel books or even look in Erica Wilson’s books to find the same small projects. Pack my totewith the thread, linen in a small frame, a couple packages ofneedles a magnet to get all those needles I drop, and a copy of the project. Of yes I better add those thimble pads you wrote about.
Thank you
Mary
If I won this give away, I would use it for several small projects, so it could last for a long time. I have only worked with silk a little bit, so it would be fun to experiment.
I’d love to make a giant dream project. I have stage IV breast cancer, so I not only have a lot of time to work on projects like these, but I am craving to create a body of work. I’d love to make a combo quilt-embroidery project.
Thanks for the chance!
Hello Mary.. I think I am more of the ambitious type and would opt for one project. Maybe the white silks plus the beautiful linen for a whitework embroidery piece? It would be fun to be presented with the challenge to design something to match the beauty of the fabric and the threads.
This pack would have to be used on a lot of projects as there is so much! I love metallic threads.
Thank for the opportunity, Mary!
It would be glorious to have a large piece and do one project. It would also be wonderful to do a few very special pieces form the Church Pattern Book
Enjoying learning from your newsletters and videos Mary!
Such lovely linen and threads. I would go slow and do many small projects as I perfected the stitches. I have not worked with the silk threads or even used the best of linen so it would very exciting to see how lovely it would feel and look. Kathleen H. in Addy Washington
Hello…Oh, I’d parcel it out! And luxuriate in the material one step at a time…thanks, Kate
I would more than likely use the fabric and threads for smaller projects. In my area there is no longer a local needlework shop so finding higher count fabric is non exsistent. Same with finding anything other than DMC floss.
Definitely several smaller projects.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!! What an exquisite trove of treasures. I would love to have this linen and the silk threads to use in the making of palls which I have been newly inspired to create since finding Needle ‘n Thread and learning just what can be done and how best to go about it. Thank you for this opportunity.
I’m almost positive that I would use the materials slowly,in many projects, to make them last as long as possible. I would love to try several new techniques and to be able to point to a finished project and say–that was made with the prize I won!–Cassie in SE KS
There is no doubt that I would stretch them out as far as I could. I have been working on Trish Burrs beginners’ patterns and the one missing element in my collection is a good foundation so this would be perfect.
Robin
Oh my, I have always wanted to try silk threads but
being on a strict budget means doing what I can with what I have. I would definately spread out the usage to make it last as long as possible! You
are so kind to offer a chance at these give aways!
Kat
It would be lovely to work on linen with silk as you do! Your posts on various types of white work are among my favorites. I have read with great interest about the palls you have made, and I dream of being able to create exquisite monograms such as you do.(Of course, it’s only in my dreams that my results could look remotely like yours!) So, to answer your question: I think I would try several small projects. Thank you for even the slimmest of chances to win this offering.
Well, I guess I would make several projects, so as to appreciate the effects of the various beautiful Silk Threads. Linen is always such a lovely fabric, so embroidering on either of these Linens would be a delight. Also, having the Silk Threads to stitch with, would complete my projects beautifully.
I would love to have the opportunity to work with such lovely silk and the thread, well what can I say, “silk thread” is great.
Judy N
I love the idea of using all these gorgeous materials in one fabulous project!
On finest linen with silken thread
I would embroider my initial in botanical style
with flower and bug and tendril to mark
myself in stitch and spun delight.
I would probably do several small projects so I could experiment with them. I find that it is easier to experiment successfully on a small item as then one feels the progress, particularly when I am not experienced with the materials.
These are just gorgeous! Thanks again Mary for your efforts with this: what a lovely gift to us readers.
I think I would break them up and use them for smaller projects. But I love the silk and thread.
LeAnn Smith – OK
Those are wonderful packages! I owe a wedding gift and would use it to complete the sampler.
Thanks.
Connie
Mary
If I am lucky enough to win today’s selection I would make a medium size sampler and one or two smaller designs.
Thank you for such a wonderful selection of give-a-ways.
Hi Mary, I can see myself trying one project with this prize, but I would worry about what to do with the leftovers!
Marian (NZ)
Thanks for the chance to win this fantastic prize..I would use it to make the “Home Sweet Home” project.
I think it would be a great keepsake for my granddaughter.
I think I would use the fabric for very special projects. It would be great to try out all the different silk threads.
The 2 linen are so beautiful, I shall do several project but if I win the black threads I think I would begin amiddle size blackwork.
Thanks Mary for this giveaway
hi mary.
oh seeeeveral nice projects…:)
i gift away most of my work, whether needlework or paintings, so i would like to use these on as many projects as i can.
It would have to be many projects Mary. Recently, I began to learn needlelace (self-taught as all my crafts). So I haven’t built up a collection of many threads yet. The fillings are just gorgeous and lacy just made for these threads. Now the linen, well, I’ve read a lot about these linens from Mary, and am impressed at their quality, would be heavenly to stitch on fabric of such quality
Julie
I’d go for the one big stitchfest project probably along the lines of your blackwork fish project but with a different subject.
I would save them and use them on something really special the threads and fabrics look gorgeous.
I would like to try several different projects with these materials so that I may have different designs and stitches worked in them.
from WI
I would break this up into many projects to spread out the experience. Using different types of stitchiery.
Would love to start building my stash with something like this!
I have never had the opportunity to work on such fine material. I would use a portion of the fabric to experiment with some goldwork and silk for a couple of projects I have in mind. Depending on the size of the cut, I’d probably divide the fabric into two or three pieces for a set of wall hangings. Thank you for teaching us about quality. What a difference it has made in my work!
If I would be so lucky als to win these fabrics, just looking at them and dreaming what could be done with them would be enough to begin with. As I am a beginner, I think I would use them for some smaller projects. Or save it, until I’m good enough to start something of a larger size.
Drool! I would split this into more than one project. And enjoy the heck out of stitching with such quality materials!
I would split them up. With such fine materials, I would want to do something very special with them, and for me that usually involves more care and more time spent per square inch of embroidery. So I would divide it into several projects that would each take more time than that size ordinarily would.
If I were to win this give-away, it would evolve into many projects as I would share the fabric with our guild members. It would be ideal for a pulled thread project, which ranked 2nd in a recent poll of techniques the members wanted to learn. Thank you for the opportunity.
I think many projects. While one ‘dream’ project might be interesting I think I’d go crazy trying to find that one project that could utilize all the threads.
I’ve purchased a few painted Christmas canvases at my LNS and would really like to find just the right mix of threads for them. They will need sparkly and shiny and all threads in between!
I would definitely divide this gift into several smaller projects. I feel I have not yet gained a lot of expertise in embroidery as art, so would choose several, very special designs to learn how to work with such fine fabrics. So far, most of my embroidery has been with kits, which rarely have the highest quality materials. So often, I find it hard to insert the needle exactly where I want it to follow the pattern, etc. If I were to win this gift, I suspect it would lead me to never again buy a regular store kit!
Thank you for leading me to a bigger appreciation of quality.
JoyAnna
It actually depends on which set. I don’t do a whole lot of whitework, so with the white thread set, they’d be spread across a lot of projects–possibly even some dyeing. (I have this plan involving weld, indigo, and a needlelace frog, you see…)
I do, however, do a great deal of blackwork, so that black assortment would almost certainly turn into a blackwork coif on the lovely linen.
I am inclined to spread them out and use them for many projects. I would study them carefully and then choose my project.
Gillian
I would probably do some small projects. I have two large cross stitch projects work in progress, so it would be too much for me to have an another big project. I would like to do a big embroidery piece, but I would probably never finish it 🙂
Most likely, I would split the materials for several smaller projects. I’d at least reserve a little of the fabric and fiber to try painting them (well, not the black fibers) prior to stitching. I’m into fabric/fiber painting just now.
I’ve never used any of these products. It would be a joy to try them.
This is a fantastic series, Mary. Thank you.
Oh dear!
I would use this and stitch those gorgeous tudor-sleeves for the one gown I’m dreaming of!
I have never worked on linen of this superb quality so I would split it for smaller projects and savour it for a long, long time.
Lea S
If I were fortunate enough to win this generous giveaway, I would make several small projects to draw out the enjoyment of using such fine materials. I would also feel such a sense of accomplishment creating more than one project; each one would be better than the first!
Mary,
If I were to win these gorgeous materials, I think I would split them into several smaller projects. So many possibilities! Thank you for this opportunity.
I would love to use the variey of threads in my crazy patchwork and the legacy union for crewel embroidery which have been unable to find in the UK after reading one of your articles. I find linen twill very stiff and harsh.
I love to sew in linen when I can find it on Ebay. It is always a real treat to see the completed project when done on linen.
As I don’t have a single project in mind that would require all the fabric and threads, I would opt for multiple projects.
I would love to try the linen as I have not worked on that type of linen before. I always like to try new things.
This looks like very special linen and will need a special project to do it justice. I suspect the threads will provide the inspiration for what would be just right. To be savoured.
Hello Mary,
Dreaming of linens lately.
Your offer sound lovely and is so
generous.
I am sure the recipient of this
lovely gift will be … oh so happy.
Many thanks for your generosity and kindness!
Jan
Many. I stretch everything as much as possible! What a great collection!
Definately one big project. These
Ate rials are so much nicer than what I usually use that I would definitely use them together to make something special.
I would love to have the opportunity to work with such lovely materials. What a delight! I immediately thought of some kind of whitework sampler with such premium linen. The silk threads would be beautiful in a whitework sampler, as well. Equally, I could see a blackwork sampler design with the lovely linen and black silk assortment. Or perhaps a reticule or a Tudor sleeve? Thinking back to the gold threads giveaway from the other day, wouldn’t these be lovely on this linen. Oh, the possibilities…
I think I would savor the experience and enjoy the beautiful linen and threads in little bits so it lasted a long time! Everything works better with a quality product and the correct tools so the fabulous linen would be a real treat!
I would have to put some think into this project. So I would probably have several smaller projects that would not overwhelm me. I also wouldn`t want to make a muddle out of a gift. So, slower steady still wins my race.
Karole King.
Love the collection.
Hi Mary,
I would definitely have to split these into relatively small projects. All these goodies just make my mouth water! I’ve never used such fine materials in my embroidery. I was more a quilter/seamstress until MS knocked me off my feet over three years ago. Funny how much leg work is involved in sewing and quilting! Since then I’ve been dabbling in hand embroidery along with my crocheting and knitting. These would certainly inspire a search for some more lofty projects than I have attempted so far.
For me as a beginner I would do small projects. This would give me a hands on idea what the fabric is like that I would be working with in embroidery. The same with the treads.
Love the giveaway! Never invested in the high quality material, but how would I use it? I would…..I don’t know…so many little projects and one big one I could do……too hard to decide!
Several smaller projects. Some for experimenting on, maybe a couple for giving away. I would want to savor such nice fabric for a while.
Who knows what project? I love to be prepared!!! Hedgehog Handworks is one of my favorite online retailers….her customer service has always been excellent.
This is a great offer. I would probably share my stitching friends so we could all enjoy them. Thanks!
I would probably use them in many smaller projects. My walls are groaning now with completed large projects! Maybe if it didn’t have to hang, a large project would be a possibility.
Mary, I could see myself stretching these so I can do several small pieces.
what a beautiful give away
Carmen
I would split the collection for small, experimental projects. It would be a wonderful opportunity to get experience with these materials!
Dear Mary
Heaven’s bliss – the linen is a dream and the threads are too beautiful to think about. I would love to work one huge piece – something to be proud of. Oh what joy to hold, work and enjoy.
Kind regards
Catherine K.
I hope this goes through. I kept getting error messages when I tried from my IPad earlier. I would look at them and then peruse my many books (my collection has grown since I started visiting this website) and look at the website and probably end up with a couple of smaller projects. I just finished a sampler I started in 1987 so am taking a brief break from major undertakings.
As a newcomer to embroidery, I would relish this chance to see what linens and threads are available for future projects, so I would use this prize to experiment and play on a small scale.
I can see this lovely fabric being used for a special project
Every day gets better and better! I know that I would love to do some beautiful blackwork if I were to win the package that includes the black threads, but all of these materials are so wonderful, that I would probably try to do as many projects, large and small, as I could.
I fancy myself launching into a full-sized, all-out dream project, utilizing all the thread types and all the fabric in one huge stitchfest. Sounds like a dream come true.
Mary, gosh, I really do not know what I would do with this wonderful linen and threads. Probably, I would use them for smaller projects. I would love to make some needle cases as presents next Christmas. I guess I would just like to look at it for awhile before I decide.
Jana
That’s a tough question. I think it would be fun to do some blackwork (or reverse blackwork with the white thread) and that could be many small projects to explore the technique.
Greetings, Mary.
This is an outstanding gift. Thanks to you, Hedgehog and Access Commodities for offering it.
What would I do with these gorgeous materials? I believe that I would split the difference between one large project and many small ones, doing a number of small, elegant projects in preparation for a larger one. What comes to mind is a sewing box with small accessories.
Phyllis
I think, for once, I would go for one elaborate full blown project. The problem would be deciding what the project should be!
I’d probably try one smaller “composite” project to try all of these wonderful materials together, but I’d likely try to stretch the use of these into other projects, too.
Thank you for providing us w/ high quality materials. That is what needlework is all about.
I think I would try to make such lovely materials last as long as I could – with lots of small projects, so i could spread the loveliness out amongst all of my family and friends – since so far, I have yet to keep a single project to myself!
I would love to redo our bedroom with these beautiful products
I say I’d just go for it in one great project, but I’d probably just play with it for years!
I probably see myself trying out smaller projects and making the materials last as long as possible because they are just too great. At the same time it would be so tempting to use it all at once on one really great project. So on second thought I have no idea, probably, but it would have to be a really good project to use it all at once.
Melissa H. from Payson, UT
Isn’t it always more fun to have a few projects at the same time? When something stalls, there is another to turn to.
It would be hard to break up such lovely linen, though.
I would take some thought as to how I would use this package. I have not had much experience in working with these types of materials so I would definitely be looking for ideas and searching your website.
Oh silk and linen! I would stretch these items out and use them for several projects. I have not invested in linen yet so this would be wonderful to win!
Ren. Mondragon Taos NM
If I win these threads and fabric, I would probably savour them for a while and use them in a few smaller projects.
I have never seen such sparkly thread! Where are these all coming from!? it must be the holidays
I am practically hyperventilating over these beautiful inspirations. It puts me in the mood for making lots of delicious little buttons and pouches@
mmm, I would use these over several small projects. I’d like to make a needle book and some other sewing accessories.
Dear Mary, I have not an answer whether I would split the projects. I cannot give a definitive answer as want to see and feel the linen. I have three other Ensemble de Soie and use other Soie d’Alger silks. The project would be sourced from your many patterns. If it is a large one I am imagining a border. Thanks for this opportunity to create.
Hi Mary,
If I was to win this giveaway, I would, for sure, split them up and savour them by using these threads on many different projects! I love that a few special threads can give such an incredible accent to a project, that would allow the project to come alive.
Many thanks,
Laurie from Mississauga
I think I would have to do several smaller projects out of this kit, because I have never done a freestyle project before. I’ve usually worked on kits before. This would be a project that I’d love to tackle, given the wonderful supplies given, not to say the great quality!! Thank you for your generosity!!
