Today, I’m celebrating another milestone by becoming one day older – because let’s face it: I’m really only a day older than I was yesterday.
In fact, following this line of logic, I’ve decided to start calculating my age differently. By my new calculations, I must be somewhere around 20,000.
“It’s your birthday?! Why, how old are you?”
“I’m 20,000, give or take…”
It just feels so right.
For my birthday, I thought we’d have our own little party here on Needle ‘n Thread, by having a give-away.
Additionally, we’re going to have a sale! Yay! More on that below the give-away!

There are two books up for grabs:
An Introduction to Whitework Embroidery with Color by Trish Burr. This newly published instructional and project book features 10 embroidery projects, along with re-usable iron-on transfers for each project.
Contrast in Crewel Embroidery: Modern Designs on Light and Dark by Tatiana Popova. This book is a hard-backed edition, featuring of a variety of large and small projects worked on contrasting backgrounds, utilizing over 135 stitches that are presented in the book. There are hundreds of step-by-step photos to help you explore these projects and stitches.

There’s a sweet smelling, delicious (but certainly not edible) package of these beautiful beeswax petites awaiting a winner! These little morsels of beeswax are excellent for any sewing kit, but they’re especially nice for anyone who does goldwork, who uses beads as embellishment, or who sews other things onto fabric. Beeswax is the ultimate thread protector and strengthener.

Birthdays are a wonderful reason to reserve a day for doing your favorite things–and only your favorite things! My suggestion for your 20,000th day is to spend the day doing what you truly enjoy, as much or as little of each thing as you like, and to let your loved ones and friends handle all the less fun parts of those activities (like maybe set-up, clean-up, etc.). Their gift to you can be to relieve of the mundane parts of your joyful experiences and your daily tasks. And then, at the end of your day you sit back and reflect on the rich treasures of your life, both the joys and the people. Enjoy your day!
How about a cocktail party with a few friends! Each guest bring fixings for a cocktail (or mocktail if non alcoholic). They fix it and explain the history of the drink and/or why they chose it! We do this when we have our card making nights. Happy Birthday!

It’s my birthday in a few weeks and I am going to take the day off work and go to my favourite café and have hot chocolate and cake for breakfast. If it wasn’t a week day I would be cycling with my husband to a further away favourite café to have hot chocolate and cake for breakfast.

My guess/ suggestion for Birthday fun is to have lunch with friends, followed by a strawberry filled cake. (I only assume strawberry because you are probably sick of winter and craving spring. Or maybe that is just me.)
LOL. We had birthday cake on Sunday evening. My sister and her family came over – and yes, it featured fresh strawberries (and other berries). Perfect for spring, even if it was 35 degrees out…! It’s not just you. I’m ready for warmer days and nice evenings.

My friends bring a 5 min presentation on That One Thing they need to rant at a captive audience. (One year my presentation was on how cool silk is…) If the presenter goes over the prescribed 5 mins, drinking is involved… all are encouraged to have much more than 5 mins worth of rant… we have a good time, lol. What I like to do is prepare or buy some food that I particularly like and avoid chores for the day. When my son lives close we do something together.

Then a nice long walk, no matter the day we always need nature for the soul and inspiration.

That’s so funny 20,000 days old. I’m close to the same age as you, but my husband informs me I’m closer to 22,000 I have never thought of my age in those terms. I would love to go to an all day spa, massage’s, mani-pedi, hot rocks, mud bath, facials, hair color and style. A make up consultation with a shopping trip for a new outfit. I would suggest any place you can relax and just do your favorite thing. Mine is always some place shady on a pretty beach with beautiful water. It clears my mind and I can read or stitch for hours. A few hours of your favorite place is a perfect birthday.
If it were my birthday, I’d spend the day working on projects that I’ve been wanting to stitch. That’s all I’d do, just stitch.

My suggestion for your birthday would be a leisurely trip around the world. You would be given your Visa to all of the countries that contain fabulous and colorful fabrics, threads, needles, scissors, ribbons, etc. You would fly first class, and when you arrive, you would be whisked away by limousine to some of the greatest hotels that exist. Your shopping would be endless, and all paid for in advance! You would celebrate your birthday at the finest restaurants, with views of oceans, mountains, deserts and forests with lush greenery and flowing waterfalls. And when you finally returned home….all of your precious purchases would be there waiting for you…..to share with your loving friends…..THAT WOULD BE ME!!! GET GOING!!!!!

My guess would be you’ll celebrate with dinner with family – and hopefully end with a sinfully delicious cake or dessert of your choice.
Being over 25000, I am trying to rid my house of excess stuff. I would like to start a tradition of giving away something on my birthday to my descendants. (Embroidery stuff is not included.)
However, we always had the tradition of the birthday person got to have whatever they wanted for their birthday dinner. When my daughters were young, we had some very interesting meals – lobster and hotdogs (at the same dinner), boxed mac and cheese with no vegetables (I still ate some), and Girl Scout stew (Yuck!)

My birthday is this week too, I think I might answer in days just to confuse people :o) — plans I think maybe you’ll visit with family, stitch personal stitching, and have a nice rest in the hammock or just make brownies, yum.
I’m terrible at guessing, but my favorite way to celebrate a birthday (and my suggestion) is spending time outside, enjoying the beauty of God’s creation—hiking, strolling, picnicking, soaking up sunshine and spring scents amid bird song. Alternatively, if the weather isn’t cooperative, go to a performance of beautiful music. (I’m taking my husband to the symphony this week to celebrate his birthday because I’m recovering from an ankle injury and can’t hike.)

You will probably have a day off to do what you want to do, relax and enjoy.
When you belong to a big, local family, certain things are written in blood. One of them is: Every birthday is celebrated en mass! (That’s how I grew up, but now the younger generations have moved away, so we don’t have these parties anymore.)
So, Mary, my “guess” is that somewhere, somehow, you’re getting together with family for – at least – a lovely cake that somebody made for you.

I went for waffles with my roommate, and got one with raspberries, lemon curd, ice cream and whipped cream on top, and I hope you get something just as delightful!

I’ve got Tatiana Popova’s Crewel Embroidery fairy tales book. I don’t love all of what she does, but she’s so creative, and she really encourages stitchers to be creative, to make projects their own. I mimic and adapt some of her elements, so her outlines with my colors and stitching are indeed my own.

Happy Birthday Mary. I just had a birthday last month… my 81st and yes I still stitch on 36-40 count fabrics. How should you celebrate? Well, if it was me I would go to my most favorite restaurant with my daughter, sister and best friend (you choose your dining companions) and have my most favorite meal with an excellent glass of Pinot Grigio. That is my recommendation. Then I’d go home and stitch as long as I could stay awake.

I Know what my birthday plans would be.Even though I guess that I am a bit older than you,I would go to a favorite restaurant (one that I only go to for special occasions) and have my favorite special occasion food plus chocolate cake and pistachio ice cream. Or,if there is a play or concert that night, treat myself to that instead.
My guess is that your birthday plans include a gathering with your family, and, if you are lucky, having a bit of time to try out a new gadget, floss, or stitch that has no immediate connection to your work.
Not sure what your weather is like, but on my birthday last weekend nearby Gloucester had its annual Daffodil Festival complete with parade, booths, and bounce areas for the kids. Hope something like that is coming your way soon.

In NY. For my 30th it was a picnic in Central Park for a performance of Opera. For my 40th I spent a week in Paris. For my 50th 3 friends and I invited 120 people to a 3 day event in Italy. For 60 I did a Peggy Lee style concert and raised $10,000 for charity. Birthdays should be celebrated.

I live in the beautiful Hunter Valley in NSW, Australia and look forward to your emails. Always so much great information. I belong to a fairly large embroidery group, Maitland Embroiderers Group with about 80 members. There is a wealth of information among the members, who are always willing to share their knowledge, and a wonderful reference library as well. There is so much to learn. I don’t think I’ll live long enough to master the art.

I would hope birthday plans might include sleeping late (or later than usual anyway) and using that extra time of sleep (or rest) to recharge your energies. Then even as an extra bonus, breakfast out somewhere! As an aside, I love the Trish Burr books. I have some of hers and have done some of the projects found in them. As a matter of fact, one of the pieces is being entered in the state fair by request of the county fair board. I’m quite excited about that.

Stitching and Balloons! Happy Birthday Mary
Happy birthday! I hope you have time to bask in the good wishes and nibble tasty treats! My guess is that you’ll spend some birthday minutes stitching, too.
In our weekly needlework group we celebrate birthdays on the 1st Saturday meeting of every month so no one misses out. I have been involved with our group for over 30 years so there has been many birthdays celebrated.
A birthday is never complete without family, friends, cake and your favourite / happy place. Mary have a happy, happy birthday with maybe cake and coffee or favorite afternoon drink with friends; dinner and cake with family followed by an hour or more of quiet stitching . A very happy birthday wish.
Going out for a nice meal and spending the rest of the time sewing.

My bet for how you spend your birthday does include some work, just because I don’t think you could go a whole day without at least doing some work related task. Then on to something to do with family and friends. If there’s a textile related museum or exhibit anywhere is a 20-40 mile radius, you’re bound to make an appearance. You will probably enjoy a meal with one or a few special people, and hopefully have a wonderful, relaxing day !

Based on the picture, I would guess that your birthday plans involve sitting in the shop and celebrating with all that arrive like the queen that you are! That pointy birthday hat is perfect, and the balloons are highly festive. I hope that you get lots of UFOs completed for your birthday — that is what I wish for every year! (April 8th is an auspicious day for your birthday — it is my favorite brother’s birthday too — of course he is my only brother….) Wishing you a very happy birthday and wishing you many more trips around the sun.

If the weather is good, take the time for a spring walk in a park. a local zoo, a city walk or an arboretum and really look at your surroundings. Take photos of interesting things that inspire you for future projects, whether it be for embroidery, painting, illustrating, the list goes on. Then of course food must be involved!
I embroidered a lot as a teenager and and young adult, then kids came along, job, etc. I am so glad to “discover” you as you inspired me to go back to it and I am so very grateful, thank you! Happy Birthday and enjoy your day 🙂

Is it too early for a trip to the local greenhouse/nursery, to treat yourself to some new flowers for the garden? They would add a lovely splash of color to any gray-weather days that may still be ahead. They might inspire a new embroidery project, too! Happy birthday, regardless of how you choose to celebrate!

From what I’ve gleaned from reading your blogs, I suspect that you will work for most of the day, either filling orders based on the sale, or working on your experiments with the clerical embroidery you’re working on, or finalizing the next Stitch Snippet. At the end of the day, you’ll have a lovely dinner with your Dad and possibly other family members. How ever you celebrate, I hope you truly enjoy it!

I don’t know what you’re doing for your birthday, so I’ll suggest one of my favorite days:
Swimming laps at the Y, followed by breakfast with friends. Since it’s my birthday, maybe go to the local spa for a sound bath and pedicure. Then a WhatsApp call with my Bestie. After that, curl up in bed with my cat and some stitching or a book.
I think you should have a catered high tea, while doing some stitching, watching Downtown Abbey and knowing your house is being professionally deep cleaned and will be spotless when you get back from your massage.
A perfect birthday would be one spent stitching with no interruptions like making dinner.
I think you will plan stitching time, a birthday dinner with your Dad and Family and Anna will make you a cake with candles.

First, happy birthday! I have not met anyone with this birthday since I was in HS (1977)! Wonderful that I know there are now 5 of us.
I don’t know what your plans are but I would guess sitting back and appreciating all the beautiful and inspirational projects you provide, sharing your experiences and planning out your next gorgeous pieces. Probably wrong, but I would do that if I had your beautiful studio.

Your birthday morning will start a bit early with a hot mug of tea & watching the sun rise. Then get ready for a birthday breakfast out with family. Once back home, go thru the emails & such for birthday blessings & wishes. The day is yours to stitch on that piece you have been working on, that one that is for you.
Around 4pm, you are ready for a special early dinner & ‘party’ at the restaurant you love to go to. The back room has been reserved just for you & yours for the night. Friends & family & fans come & go all evening, showering you with all their love & friendship. There are flowers & gifts all over the room.
As you lay in bed, you replay the day in your head and fall asleep smiling.
I am so glad I discovered your website, loaded with information, and your designs are incredible. I printed out one of your free patterns, which I want to try for embroidery. I think it will be a challenge for me and I am looking forward to try out different things and being creative.
